Depends on department standard operating procedures and local / state law. For example : New York, only allowed to have one blue light, no audio warning, it is a courtesy light only so the driver must obey all traffic laws and demands no right of way.
TWAWatcher why should we be banned from responding? just have manned stations 24/7? yeah, ok... here in NY, we can only have blue lights, nothing else, people dont HAVE to pull over, but still will. we have to obey ALL traffic laws, regardless. but we should be banned
TWAWatcher another "its just a paycheck" statement form a person who has the logic of "When Im off the truck, Im off the truck." Words like that dont come from 1st responders who are in it to help people and their community. Only from shitbags like you who think "its just a job".
amen to that^^ there was a stretch when I didn't have my liscence, so I would run out to the end of my driveway and hop in my chiefs car. he would drop me off at the station or bring me to the scene.. I guess I could do that again..
I am so glad that you used the Two-Tone siren, I don't hear that anymore. I am the only one on the fire department that still runs rotators and uses the two-tone alot. hahah. The can tell when I am driving the fire truck because they can hear the two-tone coming hahah.
I was raised in Ohio and that is the best state for being a volunteer firefighter. Volunteer's POV's are considered authorized emergency vehicles under Ohio law. Many fire departments throughout Ohio have volunteers, but Hamilton County (Greater Cincinnati) is exceptional and still has some fire departments that are partly volunteer. All the fire departments there run Life Squad (EMS) so, if you go there, be prepared to spend time on the ambulances as a firefighter/EMT or Paramedic.
Indiana does not run with Sirens ... in fact our "blue" lights in our vehicles are a courtesy light and drivers do not have to pull over for volunteer fireman in POV's
Wow, I am amazed at how will other drivers respond, even in your POV. Here in Winnipeg, MB, Canada, people will hardly give right of way to city FPS vehicles. I cant imagine how frustrating it is.
Max Ben There is a loophole to the Blue lights only rule. you can run reds in back. i forgot the exact reasoning, but my cousin in Indiana i Volunteer and runs reds in back
That's complete shit. If any thing Winnipeg drivers are some of the best for getting out of the way for emergency vehicles. Same goes with Manitoba. Go to Alberta if you wanna see stupid drivers block emergency vehicles.
I'm in ohio (north-east) the law is we are allowed to use red amber and white or clear emergency lights those are the only colors and we can use a siren. It depends also on the department the Cheif can say yes or no. Same with how far away from station or scene you can run hot our station is 15 miles hot also for our county the speed at which we can travel our cheifs make that decision based on the drivers of the povs like we can go 20 mph over when someone who's more reckless is only allowed 5-10 miles over.
I guess it all depends on your state laws. In Ohio where a volunteer firefighter's POV can have red lights and siren, during an emergency response, you MUST come to a complete stop at a traffic signal or stop sign before proceeding through and you must have your vehicle under control at all times. So you can say that emergency response is regulated by the laws on the books.
What City and State is this that allows you to respond Code in your own vehicle with lights and sirens to the stations. And are you allowed to respond to the scene in your vehicle also? California CHP would shoot you if we tried that out here (Which is total BS).
This is the State of Ohio. In Ohio, a volunteer firefighter's POV is considered an authorized emergency vehicle under state law. Depending on the department, you can respond to either the station or directly to the scene in your POV with red lights and siren. It has always been like this in Ohio. Since the majority of fire departments in Ohio operate Life Squads (EMS ambulances), volunteer firefighters are not only responding in their POV's to fire calls, but are responding to emergency calls requiring an ambulance. Fortunately in Ohio, law enforcement and the fire/EMS service have a good working relationship when it comes to emergency response in a firefighter's POV.
johnwoa here in Connecticut we get blue courtesy lights. Most people pull over and for smaller towns it's ok I guess. When there's lots of traffic lights it becomes more of an issue and is useless.
Illinois is no siren and just blue, can't run stop lights, have turn lights off if you come to a red light or else you will get a ticket. Lights only good if you get all green lights. Stop signs have to stop but most people wave you on. Stupid rules, can't wait to move out of Illinois and find another department to go to. Ohio or Missouri have laws that make sense. It just finding a department that volunteer that I'm having a problem with.
that might be the law but i don't think responders "myself included" pay attention to it. also, i cant think of any cops that would pull over someone responding for speeding.
No doesn't really depend on state. They play it safe as said before public safety is number 1. You do NOTTTT want to speed and end up passing the Chief on the way to a fire call. bad idea..lol
sometimes depending on rank you can. also may be one of the few states that allow it. also maybe there may be a local municipality agreement with the department
At lease wherever this video was shot from the drivers actually got out of the way ( except for the idiot in the white pick up @ 0:35 And on both sides of the bloody road. Well done
Don't worry certain Colorado Cities can't respond with lights or sirens...It's just a drive...I think we need a state fucking wide allow of POV'S, It would help the firefighters
Be glad your not in Colorado the ass holes out here can't even single right let alone pull over like they should and yet these are the same people with all the jobs and money makes no sense nice vid
The thing is he had the traffic light red on his side of the intersection requiring him to stop before entering the intersection which he did not come to a complete stop. The white pickup had the right of way. Now the siren and lights only allows you to ask for the right of way but it needs to be granted. That was a close call. Private POV's in my book should not be allowed because they do not have sufficient lights and sirens to be classified as an emergency vehicle.
Your comment was very unnecessary. Every second counts. How would you like it if you were trapped in a burning building, and they arrived 20-25 seconds late, and the building collapse or in a different situation?
So were the injuries TRUE LIFE THREATENING injuries in the end to justify such actions, or was this just a chance to touch yourself when no one else is around to see it. Usually when there aren't any vehicles in front of us, its an opportune time to turn the siren off. Usually, when there are traffic control devices, responders stop at them before proceeding. Clearly the driver in the white pick up truck didn't care how much money you spent on your whacker lights and siren. How long was the response in the apparatus once you left the firehouse? another 4-5 minutes? more? The emergency part of the call is when 911 is called, ten minutes later (or more) is no longer an emergency. Think about this for second, you never really exceeded the speed limit or did anything outside of the way you would have driven anyway. What did you save, 20-25 SECONDS at the most by going through stops signs and passing the occasional car you came upon? All of these toys are unnecessary and add liability to yourself and your dept.
I don't know about your state, but in Pennsylvania, emergency vehicles that have audible warning devices (ie cops, ambulances, fire trucks, and or ranking officers) must use the audible warning device any time they have a visual warning device active.
RIT Irons you don't know the severity of the call until you get there, you asshat! Lights and sirens get you there quicker and safer than just speeding to a call, and only you would put a time limit on an emergency.
jordan plant A Privately Owned Vehicle is a Vehicle such as a Boat, Motorcycle, Automobile or Aircraft operated by an individual that is not owned or leased by a government agency.and is not rented or leased by an employee under a government rental agreement for use in connection with official government business.
Love that Hyper-Lo people really never hit hi-lo with the siren
If this was my hometown, every cop would have their badges, belts, jeans, and boots on, be in their cars, and pull over anybody who did not yield.
bschray97 cops don't wear jeans...:/
Hey if it's not too late can I know where your hometown is so I can move there? lol
Excellent use of the siren. Love that siren assembly too
Depends on department standard operating procedures and local / state law. For example : New York, only allowed to have one blue light, no audio warning, it is a courtesy light only so the driver must obey all traffic laws and demands no right of way.
0:37, and this is why we have due regard.
And that is also exactly why POV responses should be banned.
TWAWatcher why should we be banned from responding? just have manned stations 24/7? yeah, ok... here in NY, we can only have blue lights, nothing else, people dont HAVE to pull over, but still will. we have to obey ALL traffic laws, regardless. but we should be banned

Yeah let's just ban pov responses. How the fuck am I suppose to get to the station? Walk?
amen to that^^ there was a stretch when I didn't have my liscence, so I would run out to the end of my driveway and hop in my chiefs car. he would drop me off at the station or bring me to the scene.. I guess I could do that again..
Great Safe Driving! Stopping at all stoplights, Fantastic! It's not about speed, it's about getting to the scene safely.
I am so glad that you used the Two-Tone siren, I don't hear that anymore. I am the only one on the fire department that still runs rotators and uses the two-tone alot. hahah. The can tell when I am driving the fire truck because they can hear the two-tone coming hahah.
I still like rotators.
mike ggg your my new friend haha
Oh yeah - when I started as a policeman, I had an MX7000. When they switched to LEds I said NO - I want to keep mine!

Actualy it is a Code 3 siren made in the US. It's either a Code 3 RLS, MicroCom2, or Mastercom. I have a MicroCom 2 with the same tones.
that white pick up truck would've pissed me off 😠😣😤
Im guessing you live in Franklin!
Why are so many people asking about the siren sounds like a broken car alarm to me.
+Cody Wolfe would make you look though.
Hyperhilo
Indiana does not run with Sirens ... in fact our "blue" lights in our vehicles are a courtesy light and drivers do not have to pull over for volunteer fireman in POV's
that house at 2:16 is that the one house across the street from west borough baptist church?
Wow, I am amazed at how will other drivers respond, even in your POV. Here in Winnipeg, MB, Canada, people will hardly give right of way to city FPS vehicles. I cant imagine how frustrating it is.

personally owned vehicle
That's complete shit. If any thing Winnipeg drivers are some of the best for getting out of the way for emergency vehicles. Same goes with Manitoba. Go to Alberta if you wanna see stupid drivers block emergency vehicles.
Which siren did you use in this video?

Someone called 911 on us responding code 3 to a call in our rig for doing a u-turn.
in my town we have to yield to normal traffic indicators and aren't allowed to run sirens it's very annoying but what are you gonna do.
I guess it all depends on your state laws. Why did you get rid of your whelen siren??
Nice video! Hoping in 4 years ill be able to work for an fd
What siren system is that it sounds amazing
Indiana is kinda of like this. As far as I know you can run the pov lights at a red light. Some have waved me on before.
What City and State is this that allows you to respond Code in your own vehicle with lights and sirens to the stations. And are you allowed to respond to the scene in your vehicle also? California CHP would shoot you if we tried that out here (Which is total BS).

Sounds like an Alaska state trooper siren. Good job.
I read somewhere they can't exceed 10 mph of the speed limit. Anyone feel free to correct me on that though.....
Can we get a video of your siren setup and lights?
Dude, Let's maybe go on get 30 MPH??
to get there faster
People actually yielding. Such a beautiful sight :`)
What kind of siren box do you have?
For yall asking the siren sounds like a code 3 Mastercom b
Nice Smooth Response. Thank You for what you do.
NJ is just blue too, no siren, have to obey all traffic laws, but it is state law to pull over for pov blue lighters, even though there is no siren.
for those wondering its a Code 3 RLS Siren.
It's actually a Mastercom B
+bobcat1deer2cat3 we got the mastercom b siren where I live here in Mossuri.
What siren is that? Code 3 RLS?
I love mastercom b sirens thats the siren he was responding to.

Great POV. Nice siren!

ah kk :o
At lease wherever this video was shot from the drivers actually got out of the way ( except for the idiot in the white pick up @ 0:35 And on both sides of the bloody road. Well done
Where in ohio are you at?
what state r u in?
Ohio.
where is this?
Ohio.
damn close call at 0:40 stay safe brother
You are driving EXTREMELY slow for an emergency response
Don't worry certain Colorado Cities can't respond with lights or sirens...It's just a drive...I think we need a state fucking wide allow of POV'S, It would help the firefighters
pov ... Privately Owned Vehicle ...
Close call at 0:35-40 seconds. If you were a fire truck I'm sure you would of gotten hit by the ford ranger blasting through the intersection.
Anyone hear their phone ringing?
i know depending on your department standards you may not be able to answer this question but what are you responding to?
Generally speaking, he would be responding to either a fire or a life squad (EMS) run.
He didn't even stop at the stop signs not that safe
Code 3 mastercom B sounds like tbh
not that white truck
Only Hi-Lo I like right there.
Be glad your not in Colorado the ass holes out here can't even single right let alone pull over like they should and yet these are the same people with all the jobs and money makes no sense nice vid

i can give a good explanation on why he drives slow.. Dodge
Probably because your not allowed to speed in pov...its not a state owned emergency vehicle
POV IT MEAN Point of View
code 3 rls best siren ever
Your comment was very unnecessary. Every second counts. How would you like it if you were trapped in a burning building, and they arrived 20-25 seconds late, and the building collapse or in a different situation?
i perfer the good ol high low
love how everyone pulls over for you no way in hell this is ny haha
you drive quite slow
Wow. Nice comment roit irons, not.

what does pov stand for?
