The thing with these games is that the interacting voice isn't a distraction but a way of making us feel "alone/deserted" when it stops. And that makes things 2X spooky!
I feel so damn sorry for this guy. From the line at 1:15:56 it's clear his father wasn't just controlling, but physically abusive. He has to choose between his freedom but his son's death or his son maybe living but both he AND his son are now stuck in the abusive clutches of his father. There's no way to win in this scenario.
What's even sadder is that he apperantly never really opened up to his wife about (the full extent of) his childhood abuse, which is why she doesn't understand his hesitation to go to his father for help at all.
@@anthonyislateThat or she knows but doesn’t care. Unfortunately a lot of people even if they knew would claim he was just weak or cowardly or too sensitive. As someone who’s been verbally abused and manipulated, death would be far kinder.
I like that this game didn’t have a traditional good/bad ending. It’s the difference between being selfish and giving up his dreams to take care of his family. Aiden can’t keep writing because he says if they go to his father, he has a plan for Aiden and his son, implying he’s giving up his career and passion for stability. In this way, his story is parallel to the thief’s because he says it’s for his family when really he gets a thrill from writing/“stealing.” Then he has to accept that what he’s doing is purely selfish and doesn’t actually help his family so he must accept what he’s done and move forward towards actually helping his family by securing money for his bills. Kudos to the developer, this was an amazing story!! I can’t wait to see what they do next :^)
True, but it's not a purely selfish choice. He clearly didn't have a happy childhood, and going back to his father is effectively dooming his son to the same result. But it's even worse because his son's heart condition means he may not live to be an adult. So it's really dooming him to an unhappy life.
It's more than just an unhappy life, it's heavily implied that the main character was badly abused by his controlling father (1:15:56 "Father was furious, he locked me up. He used his... education methods even stronger than usual"). If he goes back to him and the factory, he's walking right back into that life of abuse and control, for both himself AND his son. It's a horrible predicament he's in, to choose between his safety and happiness but his son's death or the chance his son will live but he dooms them both to that abusive life.
@@z-beeblebrox oh absolutely. I meant selfish in the sense that he really wants to write and initially ignores his family to prioritize that, but also the abuse is condemning him to unhappiness either way. It’s truly unfortunate.
that was _phenomenal_ holy shit. as the fourth story progressed i started piecing things together and my jaw literally dropped. they tied it up so well!! and the fact that his stories were actually a representation of his life (father being the murderer, wife being the raging ghost, and the representation of them failing to bring their son back and instead leaving a monster) was just... wow. developer i am in love with u
I love how in like every video of similar games I've wached her play, she figure out things really quickly and solve puzzles before I even realize it's a puzzle... Until now when she literally reads the code for the safe on the picture-framed rhyme thing but continued searching. I must say, it feels pretty nice to have finally solved something before she did.
You are so wholesome for doing this. I love the jump scares personally because I like the cortisol shot, but I have pals w ptsd that need more ppl like you around! 😇🎶
it goes further than that: the hang together of his stories was a family of three being torn about, his family with the father switched out for his father and the thief was him. First he saw his father as the monster, than his wife, than the "obsession" of saving his son of his wife and finally the acceptance of his fault in the whole debacle even before he actually left that world and truely accepted his fault.
Holy cricket, this was such a cool game. And your personality and gaming style really make you the perfect person to watch a horror-style playthrough by. You are my go-to horror player and you never disappoint. This game was awesome too and the story-telling really was brilliant! Loved it!
HOLY HECK! I didn't expected this to be THAT amazing! Very well placed scares and the storytelling was so immersive. It just got better and better and how everything tied up in the end, explaining the story, was such a great way to end it off. Would have loved for it to be even longer but I guess that would have taken away from the atmosphere and pacing. I hope these people will create more games!

I thought you had already played this game, then I realized, it is because I watched your live twitch stream ... silly me. Now I will watch the edited version. Love your gameplay :)
i LOVE how all his stories also had parallels to his real life. A violent father, a caged child, the son needing a new heart, the thief’s devotion his family. It really shows how authors put a piece of themselves into every story they write.

I wonder what would've changed if you had cut the blue wire instead of white and had kept the ear piece vs ditching it- would he have stayed in his stories automatically, or would things have carried on the same? This game seems really complete for early access, I really enjoyed it! BB purring is everything

this was the perfect video to watch while it's 40 F (4.4 C) outside, just past sunset, and I'm home alone in near-complete darkness eating caramel pecan turtle icecream.
So the yellow room with the calendar on the wall, looks an awful lot like a room from a another game with house in it's name. House Party, must be some kind of a ready-made room asset
What amazing storytelling and an amazing game. I feel so bad for him in the end. He really couldn't win either way, I mean not until his father dies then he can sell the business. But, his family is still in an abusive and controlling situation until then. I love the way it made the "story" change. What a great way to present things and keep things fresh and confusing for the player. Absolutely baffled that was early access lol. That was astounding for an indie game. Nice job 👍🏾👍🏾

I really don't like that ending and I honestly think Gab overlooked the ramifications of the choice and I think she was looking at it in more of the terms of "It's about his passion for writing or his family" rather than "It's about struggling on and taking a risk in freedom or condemning his whole family to a life of virtual servitude and abuse". Choosing to go back to an abusive familial relationship after getting free of it, and even worse condemning the rest of your family to it, is ultimately one of the most horrible things you can do. It follows the same logic as mothers who go back to their abusive husbands because they want their kids to have a complete family. Especially since the son was in a stable condition. Better to fight through debt and those struggles than commit your wife and child to abuse for lord only knows how long. It's not about giving up the main character's career or passion, it's about returning to abuse. As a survivor of abuse to any others, fight through it. Sickness, poverty, desperation, they're all better than living in a stable but abusive environment. I've fought through debt, homelessness, sickness, and many other things rather than turn back to my abusive family and as hard as it was, I don't regret it. The scars abuse leaves run too deep and while the other things heal, those scars never completely go away.
