      She didn’t use a barrier between the rocks and the moss/charcoal it keep them from mixing and the substrate from sitting in water.

    I love how the terrarium turned out! Maybe you could name the mantis after one of the Ghostbusters? 😅
    Also, moss doesn't have a vascular system, so those roots are from something else. If they're coming straight from that piece of wood, it may be mycelium (the root-like body of fungus) which isn't necessarily a good or bad thing.

      exactly my thoughts 😊

    • @tabboty
      @tabboty ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, true. moss has a root-like alternative that doesn't grow long and is good at grabbing onto surfaces (AKA the reason why it grows on almost any surface). if there's roots it's not the moss :0

    About 10 years ago I found a Mantis outside in the yard. He/she hung out for about a week until a bad storm came. While it was here I fed (roaches and bugs from the yard) and watched it. They are so cool to watch eating.

    12:15 Technically moss don't have roots they have rhizoids only serve to anchor the plant but whatever who cares haha anyway i may be wrong but i don't think those are moss roots because they go way too deep and i don't think those are even plant roots by the way they are growing, my best guess is that it's some species of white rot mushroom mycelium(root-like structure of a fungus), probably came with that little stick you put in, i don't think it's anything to worry about, in fact it's pretty cool and don't be surprised when some mushrooms pop up.
    Btw great terrarium! those little mantis are really lucky good job.

    Love it Harli! His terrarium is perfect! Never seen the aqua soil background genius! I used to have an orchid mantis years ago, you’re making me want another. (I went from the orchid mantis to keeping tarantulas, thinking I’d enjoy their longer lifespan, but honestly they are boring in comparison. They don’t move around much at all. They are beautiful, but mantis are much more fun).

    Unfortunately if you sourced your mossy bark or any of the Hardscape from outside directly and didn't boil it (moss is much the same although you just use multiple RO water wash/rinses then there is a risk that these pieces will both carry and hence infect your terrarium with some pest, disease , etc which are prevalent outside. In turn this can affect the health of your inhabitants.
