We purchased the 2022 Pathfinder SL/Premium and so far after nearly 4 months we absolutely love it. The only thing that took a little getting used to was the electronic shifter but they all seem to be going that route these days. We looked at the Toyota but never test drove it mainly because my wife and I simply didn't like the styling inside or out, so no point in driving something you don't like. That's not a knock on Toyota because they are a excellent brand but for our tastes it wasn't for us.

A friend got a 2021 Highlander Limited and it's small inside for a three row and the interior isn't very impressive at all. The interior of the Pathfinder is gorgeous and the VQ V6 is great.

One thing I find a lot of reviewers miss on the Pathfinder is that the removable center console can be stored beneath the cargo floor. That's the main reason why cargo space seems on the small side in the segment.

We have the Pathfinder & our best friends have the Highlander. The Pathfinder has more interior space, comfort, and a smoother ride. Nice breakdown of both! What ultimately swayed our decision towards the new Pathfinder was the additional 1,000 lbs towing capacity over the others in its class (6,000 lbs on the Nissan vs 5,000 lbs on pretty much all others). It gives us some more breathing room for safely/comfortably towing a camping trailer.

I looked at both and decided on the Pathfinder. One reason was that we would have to wait at least 6 months if we ordered the Toyota but the Pathfinder had just been delivered that day and was on the lot! We traded a Toyota Venza which we loved. Both of these vehicles are excellent and for us the Pathfinder just edged out the Highlander on looks, the interior details and the towing capacity.

I wish that reviews would use length/width cargo rather than cubic feet. I guess cubic feet is good to compare two vehicles and if I had a bunch of small storage bins to carry, but it doesn't tell me if I can put 4x8ft lengths in, if I could sleep back there on a car camping trip, if it is flat or has a hump, will my bike fit, etc. Maybe for SUVs and Trucks take a few seconds to run a measuring tape. Just a suggestion. :)

I've had 3 Nissans, 2016Altima and 19 Pathfinder, 95k and 110k CVTs, changed trans fluid at 50k per Nissan Enterprise leasing and Dealer, no problems yet. We'll see. Change your Fluid, its not lifetime like Subaru and Nissan claim it to be, unless you want a 70k lifetime transmission. Otherwise, no problems with any of them.

Pathfinder use to compete with 4Runner decades ago but now it is competing with Highlander. It is too bad Pathfinder did not persist to push to compete with 4Runner. Nissan should have branded the New Pathfinder with different name and then start making true Pathfinder that can compete with 4Runner.

Although the new one is a step up from the previous generation, I still think it's a "Mallfinder" with some borrowed Land Rover styling cues and especially with that select-terrain knob. Hands down, Nissan makes the best interiors when compared to boring Toyota. Only thing that Toyota has going is known long term reliability of its engines and transmission. But if only trying to keep a vehicle up to around 150 k miles, Nissan wins but if for longer, Toyota is more trusted to last decades. Moving to away From the CVT transmission is very smart so this Pathfinder might last.

We have had an eight seater Highlander XLE AWD for 6 years, 150,000 km, in a salty northern CAnadian climate. My synopsis:
    1) Zero reliability issues (well, we did have to replace one fog light bulb for $19.99).
    2) The third row in the 8 seater is really only useful for kids that are out of car seats and in boosters, that can get in themselves and don't require an adult to secure their seatbelt.
    3) as the middle row is 60/40 bench, it's almost impossible for all but the tinniest adults to access the third row if two car seats are anchored in the outboard position of the middle row, as the seat backs can't tilt fwd. This would not be a problem with the 7 seater of course as you could access the rear between the two captain chairs. So, with the 8 seater if you had a child in a car seat in the center rear position it is very difficult to tighten their harness as an adult that can't fit back there with child seats position on both sides of the middle row.
    4) in the middle row, you can easily fit two normal size child car seats and have a highback booster in between them.
    5) We use it to tow a 3500 lb (dry) 21' trailer. No issue, but we did have to get it wired for seven pin, and we use in conjunction with a wireless brake controller.
    6) We regularly take it on woods roads with two canoes on the roof (on 78" wide thule bars), towing atvs and side by sides, etc. It's fine.
    7) Despite three young kids and more intermittently due to fostering, we did not get a Sienna as we wanted the ground clearance and towing capacity of the non-hybrid Highlander. The hybrid has only 3500 lb towing.
    8) we love the back hatch glass that opens and my wife is refusing to upgrade this one with a newer one due to the lack of opening back glass in the hatch.

We just bought a 22 Highlander Platinum and absolutely love it. We had a 2019 XLE and this new one is far smoother and just overall better than our old one. Everything about the new Platinum is extremely smooth and luxurious. I’m a long time Toyota customer but I did like the looks of the Pathfinder but with it being the first year model of the full redesign the Toyota was definitely the safer bet for longevity. I’d recommend the new Highlander if anyone is looking at the 2.

Need to review where the rear vents are for suvs anymore. Think about a rear facing carseat...the vents in some are on the door jab and do not get air to the carseats so the kiddos get too hot. Fortunately the Pathfinder is in the headliner.

Folks saying the Highlander is more reliable as if non-CVT Nissans aren’t known for reliability as well, especially their SUVs and pickups. Resale value is also a moot point considering the vast majority of newer Toyotas are purchased for thousands over MSRP.

I think I will go with 2023 Pathfinder, wait I just got 2023 Nissan Pathfinder Platinum package. 😁 Well after owning 2015 Toyota Highlander for 7 years my wife and I decided to get a new car and.... 2023 Toyota Highlander V6 No More, they decided to go with I4 turbo with life prediction of 120K compered to V6 model witch was 280K before major repairs.... I like older model of Highlander but I have to admit that 2023 Nissan Pathfinder looks better, inside and outside, and with V6 under the hood it's what I personally like..

I think minivans declined because they rarely had the mild awd/4×4 option. The larger SUVs fill that niche. I have to have the cargo space and the traction where I live. My Astro wasn't pretty but I really liked it. My 4Runner was great but lacked cargo space. So the Pathfinder and Highlander come closest to working out for me.

so i looked at both few months back along with every other 3 row suv on the market. the highlander was extremely small inside and the 3rd row was useless. i do use the third row a bit. the pathfinder had alot more room but i still didnt love it at all. it drove kinda sloppy to me. i liked the telluride but the over pricing on those where ridiculous. it came down to the durango or explorer. i ended up with the explorer. the 3rd row seats my quite comfortable at 5'11" in it and they had the best pricing. it also has very sport feel plus the rwd based set up was a plus for me. so far 0 complaints.

After almost 6 months with the pathfinder, it's great but not without issues. Autostart/stop is garbage. It lurches pretty strong on restart to the point you need to make sure you are pressing pretty firm on breaks. Trans is great while driving but very slow for initial engage. Infotainment is super slow to startup. Otherwise, 2 thumbs up. 👍👍

  • @meenam300zx
    @meenam300zx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I am not sure about the seat comfort of latest Pathfinder but my 1995 Nissan300zx had a great seat comfort.
I traded my 2013 Highlander Limited for 2015 Volvo XC60 and that was the best decision I made. The seat comfort and safety is like night and day and my Volvo has 93k of reliable miles.
By the way, neither of these 3rd rows are useful and should be gone like XC60.
You need more seats, get a mini van.
Toyotas hand down have the worst seats among Japanese. I would say that among Japanese cars Honda has the best seats followed by Mazda, Nissan and Subaru then Toyota.
If you don't want SUV, buy the Volvo cross country station wagon and those are simply the best. Try the V90, it's fantastic.

Excellent review gentlemen as always!! I appreciate the work you guys put in to do these reviews. As for my pick goes between the two, I’d go with Toyota Highlander. I think it looks more elegant and luxurious, it has slightly more power and better fuel efficiency. And as an icing on the cake Highlander also comes with Toyota’s world famous reliability and industry leading resale value. Unless Nissan gives significant discounts on these Pathfinders I find it to be extremely difficult for buyers to pick Nissan over Toyota. Not to mention Highlander recently beat Ford Explorer for the best selling 3 row SUV throne. Toyota Highlander is a tried-and-true platform that has been performing extremely well ever since the model’s inception. And this redesigned Highlander looks no different than its predecessors.
