  • Here is the final pull after installing and tuning my new carb. Sorry for the shaky camera, I didn't realize the mount induced so much vibration. Also I'm a novice dyno operator, so bear with me, I'm new to this. First three pulls were to establish numbers, next was a full gear run though, and finally to check streetability, a 2500rpm pull in 5th. Unfortunately I ran my bladder empty on the last run and thus the stuttering you see. Mods are: 40mm Lectron with idle air and power jet, destricted intake, Uni filter, OTR Performance equal length headers, and HRC exhaust tip. Many thanks to Kevin and David at Lectron Fuel Systems for their help and answering my barrage of questions!

    I have a 93 650L. Desmogged, T4 muffler, daves carb mod, header outlets smoothed. I just wish I knew how to tune the needle setting and jets to get the most preformance out of the engine.
    Nice work fellow throttle jokey 👍🏼☝🏼👌🏼

    Hey gentlemen, it's an 03. I would say throttle is snappier and pulls cleanly to redline. It did take a bit of tuning but the results were worth it. It's been awhile since I have had a stock carb, I am coming from an FCRmx. I decided to get away from it because it didn't fit the best, I had to modify the underside of the tank and with my equal length headers the acc pump bowl tended to get baked. Otherwise I loved that carb but I do find this on is slightly smoother unless you really whack on it hard. Starting is very easy with the choke.

    Is your carb standard 40mm or the high velocity one? Two cables or one? Looking two switch to one cable w a billet throttle like a speedway bike

    @Kajunzrex Can you tell me a bit about how the bike performed with the Lectron. I have an XR650R motard, and I'm thinking about switching to the Lectron, rather than going with one of the typical pumpers.

      I know, I know! I've been kicking big thumpers for a long time so I'm ok with occasionally not having the proper shoes. But 9/10 I'll have my good riding boots on. Really you just gotta know "the procedure" and they're pretty easy to start.

    More important than the actual output power figures is whether there are any improvements over the stock carb. I would be interested to hear more in terms of before v after power figures, ease of starting (especially after dropping the bike), throttle response and economy.

    • @hebeb394

      Uncorked these bikes saw around 45-50hp at the crank, this one put 51hp at the wheel. I've seen stock/mildly modded crf450 mx bikes Dyno 28-35hp at the rear wheel for a comparison. I have a FBO cammed 2007 xr650r lol

    • @hebeb394
      @hebeb394 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@7x779 I estimate mine to be around 57-60whp. The 690 motors made 75hp at the crank so I'd figure around low 60s at the wheel. The power is comparable to each other. Mine gps'd 102mph and I'm a 350lb brick wall. For the value the xr650r can't be beat if that's the type of bike you are looking for. Honestly I'd rather have a 690smc for the fuel injection though, just not worth the extra $6000 in price difference to me.

      @@hebeb394 Thanks for the info and advice. I have had many old air cooled Yamaha and Honda 6 hundreds and 6 fifties, And wondering how the more modern compare.
      I only dynoed the Yamaha XT / TT 600, Stock I think it was around 42 to 46 horsepower at the wheel if I remember, And that was at 2000' altitude And probably with a knobby.
      Magazine test of the XT and XL 600 from the 1980s show the quarter mile in mid 13s

      @@7x779 no problem, I love the Baja history behind the xr650r more than anything. A bike that was designed to be at the Rev limiter over harsh hot terrain for 15+ hours proved it's reliability lol they are absolute tanks and I've seen many examples with 100,000 miles on them. Insane. In the end they are all fun bikes especially with some upgrades haha
