Police Respond to Fight at Palisades Park

- Santa Monica Police officers responded to an incident at Palisades Park, near the Santa Monica Pier, on Friday, July 12, 2024. Witnesses reported that a homeless man allegedly attacked a woman, prompting another man to intervene and protect her. The altercation reportedly stemmed from a previous day's dispute between the woman and the homeless man, who were known to each other.
Upon arrival, officers detained the two men involved while conducting their investigation. Santa Monica paramedics were called to the scene to assess the individuals, but no one required transportation to the hospital.
Police officers arrested one of the men, although this arrest was potentially related to an outstanding warrant rather than the incident itself. Due to conflicting reports from witnesses, a police sergeant stated that a report would be filed and presented to the District Attorney to determine if any charges will be pursued at a later date.
The swift response by the Santa Monica Police Department highlights their commitment to maintaining safety and order in the community. The incident drew the attention of park-goers and nearby residents, underlining the ongoing challenges related to public safety and homelessness in the area.

In amongst the chaos, the police officers on horses letting the young men with disabilities touch the horses and stayed so all of them could pet them was just heartwarming. Thank you officers for doing that, you could tell it made their day. 🇬🇧

Because they are punching the time clock. When you hear an easy one over the radio, you drop your donut and respond, then drag it out as long as possible.
@@jamesbills5998 the engine showed up because it was a fight, the guy was bleeding… so why not see if he needs medical aid? As for the number of cops a fight in a tourist area will have 3 or 4 units respond because they have no idea what’s going on… they needed to have those officers help with the crowd, break up the fight they have no idea how big etc until they go on scene and then get witness statements… people complain if cops DONT show up and they complain if too MANY show up. I’ve worked ems over 14 years… we get called for all types of reasons… you saw the ambulance show up too… but they were cancelled because that guy wasn’t going to the hospital… but fire still did vitals, checked him out just in case. Anyways, hope that answered your question. It’s hard to tell what’s sarcasm and what not. If your question was rhetorical lol my bad. Because they are ALL REQUIRED TO SHOW UP TO AVOID LAW SUITS LIABILITY DUE TO DEATHS because if the police only show up and in this case the woman said she was stabbed but while it may have been a sharp and her life at risk if such if tainted the fact it could have been a knife or other if the ambulance shows up too automatic and or fire then they too can act as parameds and they can administer the cpr or tourniquets etc while police chase suspects or interview witnesses the fire when no ambulance is able does the medical there are three levels of parameds and fire has to have equal to basic ambulance transpo they are required to take the people to nearest hospital under triage til a doctor treats and triage determines level of care and if they can intake or transfer but person has to be stable first before transpo can happen or they get triaged first if emergency say a bleed out or such if critical and need to stabalize before surgical intake at or transpo to nearest available so ambulance fire can do transpo to nearest hospital and has oxegen and other that police do not have if they need oxygen tanks etc so the fire also if police need to chase up fire escape building roofs to track a suspect the ladder can help and they can do basic help if the police get outnumbered if gangs or mob mentality starts they are required to separate the parties and to keep them separate to interview them and the other emergency people can do the blocking of street and or order people to stay back 200 feet from all emergency vehicles personel and they can help do kettling tecniques that is least violent way to surround lock arms with enough of them 4 on a side lock arms around group to kettle them and guide them to waiting paddy wagons for arrest they also have stretchers and wheelchair type for the stair wells the police cars do not have these things fire and ambulance have them on their trucks so if they had fight in two story walk up no elevator then they have to transpo victim down stairs but stretcher one wont work the ambulances and fire has a fold up wheelchair type they strap a person to to go down steps and takes foour to lift people down a staircase safely so the fire dept and ambulance can do such while police secure scene evidence and detain witnesses and place person under arrest etc so they are all needed as they dont know what situation is till they get there and if police go takes 20 min to get there and if they found they needed the others then waiting 20 minutes can cost a life as twenty minutes is amount of delay is takes to cause deaths so law suits liability not standard of care happenes so they all go now so no delay caused deaths if they get there and can get the vic to er in under 20 mins saves lives .
