I've bought the same cat 6 extenders as in Alex's video to get BMPCC6k into ATEM but having no luck at all. I'm using Cat 6 cable and quality HDMI cables. All cables I've tested independently and they're working well, and the extenders also work - i tested by connecting my laptop screen. My BMPCC6k is also definitely sending a picture along the HDMI alone but as soon as I plug in my BMPCC6k to the extended HDMI and Cat6 setup, exactly as the video, it doesn't carry the picture. Any suggestions would be very welcome from those who may have been through this!
I have the same issue. I use 7 canon m-series with these for my recording studio where we livestream concerts. Just got my first BM6kPro model, no matter what configuration of cat6 cable lengths or hdmi cable lengths, no signal at all over these extenders. They've all worked flawlessly with the canon cams, up to 150ft cat6. Even 6 inches with 6kpro, no signal
Hi. Thanks for all your videos. I watch them all. In this case in found a solution to talk back signal to the camera with 50 meters long. Hope I can make video soon to explain that . Or another way to share it
I can testify to the good image quality of 50m Cat6 runs. They'd be great for a one time set-and-forget studio cable run, but I'd really suggest SDI converters for anyone who; 1) will be setting up in the field (well shielded Cat6 is a pain to run and tack down, and not hugely cheaper) and/or 2) has an inkling that they may need to use, rent or buy an SDI capable mixer (ever, or at least in the next few years). Units are not much more in cost, *but* that gets you a lot more flexible setup. Literally and figuratively :D
I have ran HDMI 50m to the Atem and have also ran cat6 extender 300m to a outdoor big screen. I imagine it would also depend on all the variables on the devices we use. The long distances were achieved on the Canon 5D3 and Canon XC10 but I cannon recall the HDMI cable brand or the extenders and cat6 cables. I have not done this with any other cameras so I do not know how others would behave

Hey Alex, I picked up a few of these Pway HDMI extenders. They work great on on source 2,3,4 on the Atem Mini Pro. Used on source 1, I get a green video picture. Source 1 works great with a straight HDMI cable. I was wondering if you encounter this? Appears to be a EDID issue with input 1.
@@carmcrespo9062 Nope, I just avoid using input 1 with an extender. Picked up some 15' HDMI mini to HDMI. I was going to get a pair of SDI converters, but the virus hit and slowed down all my gigs. Hoping that will solve the 1 input problem.

Yeah that's really frustrating as I'd have a really good use for this. Surely you're more likely to have power at the receiving end rather than the transmission end 99% of the time.
It might be more convenient, but technologically it is easier to design the product so that the power supply is closest to the biggest power requirement, ie the transmitting side.
Also, the device wasn't designed for camera use - its typical use case is for sending a signal to a display, like a projector, from a video system. Supplying power from the transmitter side makes a lot of sense there.
@@aramb Ok - So why not make it so that you can power it from EITHER END? Problem Solved. Shouldn't make the cost that much more. I guess that would just make too much sense to the people that actually USE these devices.
You can also use amplified hdmi cables up to 50m. I use a 15 and 20m cable. They are one directional signal so I am not sure if they return BM data to camera
I'm using a similar solution which also works well but the big annoyance with all of the extenders is having the power plugged in at the TX end! Great that you only need power at one end but for us it would be much more practical to have it at the Rx end where we have powerblocks to drive all our other gear. I typically don't have anywhere to plug in at the camera TX end so yet another battery required........ or extension cables running all over the shop so frustrating.
Thanks Alex, using these in our "post lockdown" church setup using 30m Cat 8 cables. Please can you do a video on the Fibre HDMI cables - maybe they will allow the ATEM's camera control?
Did you find this worked? I've just tried to extend the hdmi output 20m (for an overflow room) using BM converters and SDI cable and can't get a signal.
I have a suggestion for a further video: Shortcuts in the ATEM Mini. For instance, the preview by numbers 1, 2, 3 in combination with CR oder Space from the ATEM Software.
Question, could the power be supplied on the receiving end, thus leaving the camera end without the need for another power supply? You mention that the transmitting end can supply the power and the receiving end does not need it, just trying to see if the reverse is possible.
Are you sure the Cat 6 extender you bought is a Bi Directional unit? Some on Amazon are not, I purposely purchased the bi-directional extenders for this purpose, but I don't have a BMDPCC to test....yet. Hopefully this weekend.
Does the SDI to HDMI conversion then offer upstream data for color control, tally, etc.? Or will that still only work with a singular HDMI cable? Thanks for being such a great resource for all of this?
I am a AV engineer. SDI is very good but cable expensive compared with Cat6a. I have been using HDMI extenders for years, new ones coming out are very good and can take 60FPS the earlier ones only 30fps max. Some can not do 4k due the their cheap chipset. Please check if they can. We use Crestron (very expensive) Blustream, CVP, Kramer and other dedicated AV extenders. Not used amazon placed products before so have no idea how they perform. Aura which you can get from Mayflex and really good price for the TX and RX units but not yet reviewed these yet with 4k 60fps signal.
Love your videos about this product, thanks for all the knowledge :) If we may ask you a question, on our last "live" gig, the color correction for the BMPCC6k did not work. Whatever adjustments we made nothing changed. Is there a fix for this? We have not found any specific information about how to use it, so we assume it's just plug and play,
Hi Alex Have you done similar videos on other adapters/ converters for the ATEM mini ?? Our church has very recently installed this unit and although it works fine with HDMI we need to use a VGA input from a laptop occasionally. Have you tested any VGA to HDMI converters??
Maybe synced clocks to show the latency of the long cable would have been a good thing to show. You showed the latency of a short cable but not with long cable - so when you showed the pocket outside saying it was live - it could have been a full second out and on your video would have appeared "Live". Can this somehow be connected to a WiFi hub to perform a wireless send?
I have the BMPCC 4K and ATEM mini pro and Sony A6100. Going to set it up over the next 2 weeks. I wanted long range roving for the Sony cam and so I bought the Hollyland 400s. I will let you know if / how that works over 200 feet!
Recently purchased ethernet cable HDMI extender; noticed one thing--my Canon C100 mkii will not record internally. If camera record is on, I get a black screen from my Mini Extreem ISO HDMI outputs. Possibly a camera setting, but I haven't found it yet. One or two others on C100 forums have noticed the same.
This is useful. I heard that the atem will not send audio over the sdi cable when using sdi convereters. Is this true? Is the issue in the converters. I have used staright sdi to higher end black magic switchers had not probems. Blackmagic basic sdi to hdmi coverters are about $60 each, the expense in quality SDI cables. But it does work solidly.
Hey James, as long as you get an SDI converter that’s is capable of keeping the audio signal that is embedded in the HDMI there should be no issue. Where I’ve tested with BM converters in the past, all has worked fine :)
Small correction: there will always be a small delay using a long cable, approximately 1.5 nsecs/ft (5 nsecs/m.) at a minimum. there may be more depending on internal circuitry. This delay is small enough that you don't notice it. Also anyone trying to use these devices for "normal" consumer use will likely lose their "ARC" signal for return audio.
can this work with 1 unit TX and 10 unit RX through a gigabit non managed switch via all cat6 cables to 10 smart tv? I have exact set up right now but it is lagging (low fps) . we are using it to as media display and also cctv
@@redpurple1035 no, these devices are not using Ethernet protocol, the simply use the high quality cable but it is not Ethernet. There are devices that put out HDMI over ip, but there inexpensive to devices are not capable. Don't confuse using the cable with it being Ethernet.
@@redpurple1035 No, this is not an Ethernet signal, it will not go through an Ethernet switch, It is an HDMI signal using the CAT 6 cable. If you try it, you will got nothing out.
I tried the exact extenders that you have and wanted to send signal from hdmi out of a atem mini to a 4k tv, and would not work. Maybe needs to be a camera for it to work correctly like your example
I've been trying to extend the HDMI output of the ATEM using an extender. But the extender is not playing nicely. I wonder if your extender works to extend the output of your ATEM.
It’s a Rode NT-USB, it’s a USB mic so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend for use with the ATEM Mini as you have to do a bit of a hack to get it directly into the unit. But sounds fantastic when you get it working
Alex, could you go into more depth about the BM Video Assist monitor you use? For example, what are it's advantages and is the similar cheaper model as good - do the HDMI and SDI outs mirror the screen or can it also send clean program out of both simultaneously? Thanks again!
I second the request! In the review however, can you discuss video assist monitor options for those of us who also would take the pocket cinema outside on a mobile shoot with a pocket cinema attached to a rig? I’m hoping that with the monitor or monitors that you talk about, they won’t be just restricted to indoor use.
I found your video as I specced a Atem Mini Pro ISO with Go Pro's for a venue and used CAT6 Extenders by Cable Matters (for 1080P) When I plug it into the ATEM, the atem simply displays a blank blue screen. Plug the HDMI cable into a monitor or TV instead of the ATEM and it displays without issue. So the signal passes down the CAT6 cable and is converted back to HDMI but it refuses to work. I dont know if I've missed a setting or something but I think these partiuclar converters don't work. I'm going to purchase a set you're using and try it out
Do you have a recommendation for HDMI extender as well as a usb control so the menus could be controlled from a remote camera controller that contains a HDD?
The dtap connection you have going on is that something that regulates it down to 5v in the hdmi extender unit? I’ve just picked up three of these and hacked a usb connection to plug into a hub to deliver power.
Hi Alex - I'm just curious if you can still control the BMPCC using the ATEM when connected using the CAT6 extender. You mentioned the tally light doesn't turn on, so I'm assuming there's no control of the cameras either?
Have you tried to run the HDMI through a switch? ie: HDMI to transmitter to 30m cat6 into network switch, network switch to receiver and HDMI into Atem
Is there no converter for the ethernet out of the amp ? A second pgm with very little delay over ethernet would be great, the streaming bridge adds too much delay :(
@@AlexPettitt I have 1080p conference camera run through cat 6 extender. The extender will not pass frame rate or resolution info from my camera. I've discussed with BMD and they are in agreement that since input one "auto detects" and sets the frame rate for the unit by what is detected on input 1 and none of that data is passed through the extender that it will not detect the camera. I can get the extender to work on inputs 2 thru 4 since those inputs are only looking for a video signal, not frame rate or resolution data. I'm curious if the issue is my extender/receiver set or if this issue is present for all cat 6 extenders.
I was looking into HDMI/CAT6 extenders a few weeks ago because I have an event (high school graduation outdoors) very soon where I need some long (about 60 meters / 200 feet) cable runs for two cameras to my ATEM mini pro. That is not what I purchased the mini pro for, it just an event that came up that I need to do. After reading lots of posts here and there and watching numerous videos about extenders, I decided that, to use a UK term, it was just too "fidly" to take a chance on with the extra connections, power supplies, weather, kids, vehicles, etc. So I purchased a couple sets of the Hollyland Mars 400s HDMI transmitter/receivers. More money for sure but less problems to sort out when things go wrong in the heat of the battle and I am working with teenage students. However, I think I will get some extenders for those events where I can protect my cables better. Your video was excellent and really convinced me to get some extenders for the future. Thank you. U must use clocks to test the latency in both scenes?
Can you get a cat 6 transmitter / receiver that does have the ability to send data both directions so you can use the tally and focus functions?
What about an HDMI Fifer Optic cable for extended runs?
How did this go?
Were you able to trigger the cameras to start recording using the ATEM while being connected with HDMI-CAT6 converter?
Recently purchased ethernet cable HDMI extender; noticed one thing--my Canon C100 mkii will not record internally. If camera record is on, I get a black screen from my Mini Extreem ISO HDMI outputs. Possibly a camera setting, but I haven't found it yet. One or two others on C100 forums have noticed the same.
can you plug the power to the receiver instead of the transmitter to power the tx?
Hey Alex, 1 year on...would you still recommend the PWAY extenders?
@@SuperFredAZ currently it is working but in low frame rates.
HELLO ALEX CAN THIS WORK WITH BLACKMAGIC ATEM PRO HD
I tried the exact extenders that you have and wanted to send signal from hdmi out of a atem mini to a 4k tv, and would not work. Maybe needs to be a camera for it to work correctly like your example
What is that preview looking screen you had? I don’t mind the atem mini but not having a preview monitor is an issue imo
I've been trying to extend the HDMI output of the ATEM using an extender. But the extender is not playing nicely. I wonder if your extender works to extend the output of your ATEM.
Hi Alex, what model of microphone do you use for these recordings?
It’s a Rode NT-USB, it’s a USB mic so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend for use with the ATEM Mini as you have to do a bit of a hack to get it directly into the unit. But sounds fantastic when you get it working
Alex, could you go into more depth about the BM Video Assist monitor you use? For example, what are it's advantages and is the similar cheaper model as good - do the HDMI and SDI outs mirror the screen or can it also send clean program out of both simultaneously? Thanks again!
Chris Younken Great idea! Will be sure to talk about it more in a future video :) Thanks 🙏
I second the request! In the review however, can you discuss video assist monitor options for those of us who also would take the pocket cinema outside on a mobile shoot with a pocket cinema attached to a rig? I’m hoping that with the monitor or monitors that you talk about, they won’t be just restricted to indoor use.
I found your video as I specced a Atem Mini Pro ISO with Go Pro's for a venue and used CAT6 Extenders by Cable Matters (for 1080P)
When I plug it into the ATEM, the atem simply displays a blank blue screen.
Plug the HDMI cable into a monitor or TV instead of the ATEM and it displays without issue.
So the signal passes down the CAT6 cable and is converted back to HDMI but it refuses to work.
I dont know if I've missed a setting or something but I think these partiuclar converters don't work.
I'm going to purchase a set you're using and try it out
@Alex, I have the ATEM mini pro. I was looking at the HDMI Extender on Amazon and I see where the one I'm interested in says "
Hey Man. I can’t get anything to display. I long press the edid and it works until the light stops blinking then nothing.
Yo this is more suspenseful than the election!!!!!
LIKE!🤪
Do you have a recommendation for HDMI extender as well as a usb control so the menus could be controlled from a remote camera controller that contains a HDD?
Does this thing work in 4k too ?
Do they make 4 input receiver ?
What about Fiber Optic HDMI Cables?
The dtap connection you have going on is that something that regulates it down to 5v in the hdmi extender unit? I’ve just picked up three of these and hacked a usb connection to plug into a hub to deliver power.
something is wrong with my setup, I long press the edid and it works until the light stops blinking and nothing
I am using 100ft 4K Fiber HDMI cable and no issue so far, maybe you can test this also and see if tally light work.
Hi Alex - I'm just curious if you can still control the BMPCC using the ATEM when connected using the CAT6 extender. You mentioned the tally light doesn't turn on, so I'm assuming there's no control of the cameras either?
what about sound though? is it being transmitted?
Have you tried to run the HDMI through a switch? ie: HDMI to transmitter to 30m cat6 into network switch, network switch to receiver and HDMI into Atem
Is there no converter for the ethernet out of the amp ? A second pgm with very little delay over ethernet would be great, the streaming bridge adds too much delay :(
Thank you for that Alex. Silly question, maybe. 4k or just full he with the extender?
Good question, im not sure on the answer. But what im sure is that the BMPCC4K and 6K HDMI output is only 1080p, no 4K
Try the extender on input 1. I haven't gotten it to work yet.
Just input one? I’ll double check with my units but pretty sure I had no issues on all 4 HDMI inputs 😊
Thank you. Perhaps future video on the mini pro running hot.
Hi! I tried to get it from your link, but it's not in the kit anymore :( could you add it again? or has it a reason?
Would be interesting to see if using Blackmagic HDMI to SDI/ SDI to HDMI carry the control features for the cameras.
No it won't as SDI is one way only.
