I love how ‘category’ is pronounced as ‘cathegory’. On a serious note, Green Aqua helped me to finally decide on starting my own lowtech tank. As a beginner, I really find your videos beginner-friendly, informative, and entertaining. Love you guys!
Thanks so much, glad you like how we approached the subject, tried to come up with as many favorite plants as possible for you guys to have a good idea on the basics.
Very nice and quick, good to hear all of their names in a short window of time. Kind of like running through a flash card after I've learned already. Thanks for the video!
Loved the video! Please do another one with more detailed informations or even tips on how to combine certain plants to acheave a certain look. Wood love to watch this, keep it comming!
Thanks Andrew, glad you think that. We tried our best, but I think we could only cover a small part of this topic, but yeah, it's good for a start... Hopefully.
Great video. I'm doing a lot of research as I'm determined to set up a planted tank and I can't say I've come across something this informative in a while. Really a great video on the different types of plants. I'm really looking forward to watch part 2 next!
Cheers, welcome to the channel, we've got quite a few tutorials (playlist) here where you can learn the basics, but you'll learn a lot and can get inspired from the numerous builds and maintenances here too...
I've been too. And really surprised how chilled Balazs was in that moment. Would scare the ***t out of me (Viktor). These lights are awesome, but the legs are really bad. Too easy to drop it from the tank. 😃
Thé dropped light, ooh . But in your relaxed style, not a problem 😉 great video on sooo many plants, very informative tutorial. Great quality as always. Thank you ,and have a great weekend all the Green Aqua team.
Your videos are always found at the perfect time right when i need them. Thank you so so much for this video. I love the free spirit and the fact that the videos are not made to be perfect - well in a sense of natural, I suppose they are perfect. :)
Loved the video, usefull information about the plants, and seeing them in the aquarium with each other and knowing their names makes it easier to plan an aquascape and choose the best plants to do it. Thanks
Pfoo you scared me when you dropped the light into the tank. Great video! Now I have to check your website to study all +-400 of them! Greetings from The Netherlands.
I got scared too, but you know - it happened to me before - so I kept my calm. Kinda... 😇 Thanks for watching Jerry, actually there are many identical plants that come from many different suppliers and packaging forms, so the real number would be around 150-200? Taking in consideration that there are big groups of plants that I mentioned in the video, the actual number of latin names one has to remember is probably below 100. That's not so dangerous.
Good Lights cost quite a bit. Water proof lights: Priceless. It really pays off and decent LED lights are a LOT safer than any other light source. Using regular light bulbs can be lethal.
Thank you. it was very intresting and very helpful! Loved every moment ,Special the when the lamp falls in the aquarium xd Nagyon jól sikerült videó, és nagyon hasznos a növény választásban! Köszi.
Such beautiful plants. All the stores around my area have plants that are covered with algae and other pests. Made a mistake by adding a plant without quarantining it beforehand now I have freshwater limpet snails.
I just about got my hardscape ready for an Iwagumi and my first real setup with decent gear. Although Iwagumi I'm still going to plant heavy and this video has put my head into a spin, so much to choose from but a fantastic video explaining many different plants, thanks a lot! I do have experience with some it's just now the big decision on which ones I want to put in, plants that I have experience with and plants I don't.
That would be a natural phenomenon - like crypts adjusting to underwater life, or it could be a nutrient deficiency or even temperature problem. But I've seen valisneria melt because of Excel (carbon supplement) too. There you have it.
nice! Aquascaping uses quite different plants. I'll definetely try Bolbitis because I love ferns. Mostly because my fish don't eat ferns... I randomly tried Mayaca fluviatilis - this plant is silver! So cool.
In general we're not using heaters in our aquariums. With water temp is around 22-24C. But if needed then build in filter ones or external one like Hydor is preferred.
Balazes love your Green Aqua videos......Hopefully one of these days I can visit Budapest ,and stop by Green Aqua, and say hi.If your ever visiting Saint Augustine Fl,look me up.You would like this town, its the Oldest Spanish settlement in the Us.It dates back to 1500s.
What plants would you choose for a forest scene? I'm obviously after something that look like trees, but also after grass, moss, etc. Basically anything that you would find in a wild forest.
Balazs this video is massively helpful mate, especially to people like me that are newer, us newbies can do all the research we like but after getting all our new plants home might end up putting bucephalandra roots in the substrate! I do like to use your website, I might even order from you in the future instead of from local stores!
I love bucepharandra. My bucepharandra sp. green velvet has bloomed. It's very elegantly pure white. I want to more watch bucepharandra reviewing video.

Great videos. Watching this has me wanting to do a scape. I've also begun attempting to scape plants in a reef tank. Marine aquascaping is up and coming. Would love to see you guys try it! Though much of it is done with macroalgaes and see grasses.
Yeah, that tank number 3 in the gallery, made by Viktor and Tommy, you'll find two videos on that on the channel. Title is How to build a beautiful aquascape, from last October.

Hey brother, thanks for your comment, yes, we know that many plants are coming from your beautiful country, I will definitely visit you and have some hikes around. It's on my bucket list for sure. Glad you like our channel.
man , that was a loooooooot of plants...…. amazing and nice to discover how some of them are called...ah um...can you repeat them all again..hehehehe….replay
This is a very good introduction, thank you. Can I make a request or suggestion? PLease can you split this is to a 3 part video for the three levels of plants so you have a bit more time on each plant but mainly so you can include what a plant looks like once it's settled and taken hold? You say it yourself that many of the plants look nothing like what they do when you buy them so it would be good to have like a 3 and 6 month follow up so you know what you're getting in to with each plant... Maybe that is too much to ask.
I think if you watch more of our videos you'll see the changes for many types of plants. The end of the setup videos is usually the 2-3 week state, and we always have a cinematic much later when they are totally adapted.

Our two 90cm "cubes" are similar, there are a couple of videos on that, including Dave Chow's workshop. Also, the Betta tank is a cube. Check those out. Thanks for watching. 💡
for hemianthus callitroides, i did buy the ada powder soil, but previously i planted monte carlo but diatom killed it all, then two weeks ago, ive planted hc cuba, will normal ada soil helped with the hc cuba carpet form? Or do i have to add ada powder soil, and replanted them?thank you in advance, you guys have the greatest aquascape ever, you guys gave me the courage to finally get a planted tank. Thank you in advance for the amswers too😊
Good light, good filtration, good CO2, good ferts, no overstocking, clay-based substrate to help with your filtration, room temperature cool, soft water, regular water changes.
With each yours movie I'm watching, I'm getting more and more convince that I will have to click "like" on each one of them. Great materials! I was just looking for some new plant for my tank I could not find one place with 'live' comparison side-by-side. Would it be possible to make short movies presenting plant families? For example all rotalas or ludwigias?
Thanks for the kind comment and for the suggestion, noted. Glad you appreciate our effort that goes into producing these videos, we work a lot to have each video shot and edited to perfection, hope that shows.
Which plants would you recommend for extremely hard city water, as in Arizona. I have failed with 5 batches of Java moss and mail order plants do not survive for me, probably from water shock

Great video, I learned a lot! More closeups while you're talking about a plant would help since its all new to me, but otherwise very informative.
Well, that's what we could do with the current tech, but noted, we'll do more tutorials in the future with close-ups.

I don't think an algae infested plant would do much harm to a tank if the tank is otherwise healthy. But it is safer to avoid, agreed.
Thanks for your many videos.. so many lesson learn from your tutorial.. many thanks green aqua..

I think we used inert soil (pebbles) on this one.
