This is my review of the Himedia Q10 Pro that features the new HiSilicon 3798C V200 Soc, the Mali T720 GPU, 2gB of DDR3 Ram and 16GB of Flash Storage with Android Loliipop 5.1.1
I benchmarked the Q10 Pro with:
Disk Speed Test, Antuntu, Geekbench 3, Network Speed Test, 3D Mark Score & Epic Citadel.
Tested the Q10 Pro with:
Big Buch Buny, Tears of Steal and Sintel Movies with H264 and H265 Codecs at 1080p and 4K resolutions without any problems whatsoever.
To test out 10 Bit playback capability i run 2 sample movies from Samsung, The Iceland and Dive Into The New World, both Ultra HD 10 bit video and the Q10 played everything just perfect.
Kodi version used 16.1
In terms of Android gaming platform the Q10 Pro is capable of playing the most demanding games and the ones tested were Respawnables and Asphalt 8 Airborn.
Airplay was also very smooth, used Air Pin Pro App included with the Himedia Q10 Pro and i could mirror the Iphone SE and the Ipad Mini with Retina Display and stream content from it.
I also mirrored the Imac that delivers a higher bit rate files and played live slide shows from it and also a apple event and no issues once again.
Things I did Like The Most:
Built Quality
Design & Attention to Details
Touch Feature on the Front display
Elegant Mechanism to house a 3.5" HDD
Things i Did Like The Least:
It has a fan so its not 100% silent
Hope you guys enjoy the video
All the Best
Roberto Jorge

Hello Roberto,
About a year ago i wrote a comment on one of your video and asked you to test a himedia or zidoo box. You told me that you have no intention to test those boxes...and see now! you have tested them both :-) Keep on posting those nice reviews. have a nice day. greetings
Hey Cerberus, i don't remember (sorry :) ) but i do find weird at this moment 1 year ago about Zidoo cause i did test the X9 early last year. Himedia i had no plans but this box caught my attention
Thanks for the feedback!!
RJ 👍👍
It's a shame about the GPU performance. For the price you would think it would be much better. Good job Jorge!
Hey and thanks for the feedback 😀. this was the 1st time i ever used this Soc (Cpu) and i was expecting it to perform higher than the Amlogic / Rockchip and it can but probebly needs some fine tunning on the firmware to take full advantage of it. I would need more machines with the same Soc to have a better opinion but as far as im aware Himedia is the one using Hisilicon Socs
All the Best
RJ
it would be nice to show the viewers the power consumption of those machines.
+Pit Bull 12V/2000mA.
+Pit Bull Hey !! :) I have tested in the past and these machines all consume roughly the same (Arm Cortex Cpus most of them) Non the less i have tested the Q10 Pro and results are according to what i have seen in the past. Stand By: 0.5 - 1 W/h | Running: 6 - 10 W/h
Here are the photos plus.google.com/+RobertoJorge_MotionGraphics_Designer/posts/FjEhbqE1qHr
Hope it helps

I have this box also.....from November of last year. Only just this week updated it to Android 7....from 5.1. Takes kodi 17.3, with no issues. However, I can't seem to figure out how to play from the installed HDD (4 TB) via Kodi.
However, I can use Kodi to play from the NAS unit.....same as the Minix U1.
I still havent updated mine :) To be able to add a collection of movies from the internal you will need to search on local storage.
Its weird that Kodi sees better Network than local drives :)
You have to update in 3 stages.......
1) To latest/last 5.1 FW....
2) Bridge FW from 5.1 over to 7.0....then
3) Latest 7.x version FW.
This is actually quite hard when the box is in a Home Theatre unit and you have to put a paper clip in the back Reset/Update hole (next to Power input) and press on, etc. for each update. 😆
Awesome review. I went from a FDD to a SSD
+Stewart Craig Hehe!! Thanks 😀
RJ
Can you transfer movies wireless from computer to hard disk?
thanks for all your reviews. I chose my android box from your videos. so great !
+Sifu Matt Hey Matt, thanks for the feedback!! :) And glad that i can help

Is the Q10 Pro TV box similar with the Unblock tech Ubox II TV box? Which one is the better TV box?
Hi Steve, i haven't tested the Unblock so i cant say anything about it, im afraid how the firmware is integrated . Regarding the Q10 its a nice box as we could see on the tests
RJ 😀
its 1:30pm on monday. i just got my himedia Q10 pro. im soooo existed. can't wait to set it up. any tips? and again Robert, thank you for your channel and your reviews.
Hey Martin, that is great!! hehe!! 😀 Tips not really, its easy 😀 I usually install Kodi and tell it where my library is and bam!! I can enjoy my movies and series hehe!!
Thanks for the feedback!!
Enjoy your new toy 😀
RJ
Hi Roberto, Nividia Shield or Himedia q10 pro which is best in term of Video quality and Audio Quality?
Hi K, The Shield is the Fastest machine on the market for everything 😊
Which Controller are u using for gaming with the Himedia Q10 Pro.
Do you need a special one or can I use my Playstation Controller or something like that?
+Archimedes Hi, im using the Logitech F710 at this moment.
So far i have had no success with PS gamepads and honestly i gave up a long time ago of trying to make them work with Android Tv boxes
I also use the Ipega 9028
Hope it helps
RJ
if we plug a Bluray drive on the USB port, does it plays 3D bluray ?
Hii RJ, do you think which one better minix neo U1 or Himedia Q10 Pro, Thank You
Hi Susanto, both are great machines being the U1 faster as it has a faster storage and teh Q10 with the internal HDD advantage so in the end of the day both machines will give a solid performance for our multimedia needs and making the decision our personal choice. There no bad choice when we are in these levels of machines
RJ 😀
Do you think is one is better to the nvidia shell? Thanks
+jibat cristhian Hi Jibat, in terms of hardware the Shield is the strongest one, there is no other box that can complete. But there are pros and cons on all. I would suggest that you take a look at my review of the shield th-cam.com/video/AtoyFqwWwPQ/w-d-xo.html where i do a in depth comparison with general Android TV Boxes.
hope it helps
RJ
Hello, love your reviews. I can't decide whether I should get this one, or a Zidoo X9S. The most important thing for me is that it should be able to play 3D Iso files with the menu and with no problems. It should also give me a good Netflix experience. And the internal HDD bay on Himedia is a plus for me. Which one of these two TV boxes would you prefer for me?
Hi Huseyin, both are respectable machines, however i must say that none of these will give netflix HD, the maximum resolution will be 480p (SD quality) so if you really use Netflix i would go for something that can give higher res like: Shield TV, Mibox 3, Wetek Play2
None of these have internal HDD so its a decision that you need to see what is more important 😊
Hope it helps
RJ 👍
I want to purchase this device before buying I want to confirm does this device support 4k uhd bdmv folder/file full menu.
i got a 5tb external hard drive, will it support via the usb port 3??
I believe that 4TB is the maximum
RJ 👍
Hi Rob. How would you compare this box to others? If you ever have TOP 3 boxes of your choices, is this included?
Hey Cyber, not really, it has some interesting features but nam, not close on my top 3 :) Nvidia Shield, Minix U1, Wetek Core, Zidoo X9S, MX Max those would be my first choices atm
RJ
thanks rob... :)
good review, can you tell any good launcher for tv box
+Faisal Yaqoob Hey Faisal, i use the "KK M Launcher" free on the google play store.
RJ 😀
Hi,
is that the launcher from your video? Could you provide a link please?
Thanks for your interesting reviews!
BR.
Renegade1
You just need to go to the google play store and search for KK M launcher and bam download it 😀
I hope u can review surround sound this Android box
Hey Marwan, i dont have a capable AV receiver to test it out Sorry
Hi Rob. Thank you for your review of the himedia q10 pro. It would be interesting to know what you thought of the zoomtak VPlus android TV box? I have been using this box since the start of the year. It was only released in November of last year. I've just done a comparison antu tu tu benchmark test and it came out at a whopping 413119 score, it does everything that the himedia Q10 pro does and more. The zoomtak Vplus boasts an octa-core and T - 820 Mali chip
Himedia q10 pro supports 10tb hds?
Hi, great video. Do you know of a tv box for KODI that has the hard drive option like this one but with an ATSC TV tuner? I saw one at last year's CES show in Las Vegas but I've lost the info. Thanks.
Hey SciFer 😀 try looking in the Droidbox, i know they have a few models with hard drives including one with a SSD 😀😀
RJ
hi ..I buy a 4to hdd do I need format before using ...and how to do that..thx
Hi Marius, you can format it as NTFS but there are endless tutorials on the web explaining how. I dont have one :)
RJ 👍
Will the external DVD-ROM interact with it?
Hi Robertooo
It's me again can you please tell me which is the cheapest version of Android boxes to play TH-cam 4K, Netflix 4K and Kodi 4k when it's ready
thanks
A good balance at this moment is the Beelink GT1 that i just published my review but for the cheapest maybe the Nexbox A5
RJ 👍
PS: Netflix 4K and TH-cam 4K only the nvidia shield will give you the best experience, all others are limited to 1080p
What is the ios app that you used to mirror to the box? Airpin pro?
Hi Phung, yes but i have used a free one recently that worked also really good, its the Airscreen and you may check it on my latest video here th-cam.com/video/VenxJgjeUnU/w-d-xo.html 👍
4k. Video. h265 playing smoothly?
Will it play Netflix movies at 1080p/4K resolution...?
I think you mentioned before some tv boxes don't have the license to do so even if their hardware is capable.
Hi Roberto, hope your well, Rewatched this video as I liked the idea of it and recently Himedia has gone and given it Andriod Nougat overhale.
As you know I have the Minix Neo U1 and looking for the second box for the front room so would you go with a second Minix or the Q10 Pro.
I took your advice and tried out the Probox2 Air and the GT1 from Beelink but ended up gifting them to family as not for me.
My only concern with Minix is its slow with firmware releases and still on lollipop?
Thanks again and have a great Holiday.....
You should have copy a movie to a hard disc, and then try to play it, or try to copy a movie to the hard disc from any movie source.
+Angel Luis Trinidad Hey Angel, its a good question and i did test out successfully :) i actually recorded some footage showing how to pass a file 5MB from my NAS to the HDD inside the Box but the video was getting too long that i decided to cut some parts. But you may be able to watch here (not edited) th-cam.com/video/RVTL2xaPOfM/w-d-xo.html
This shows a transfer from the network to the HDD inside the box but if we use the USB type B on the back of the box and connect it to our pc than the speeds will be much faster. Although i prefer Network transfer USB 3.0 is faster :)
And i decided to cut that part of the video but having in mind that i was 100% sure that if anyone purchased with that in mind they would have a good experience. If the tests went "south" :) i would sure mention it on the review so that everyone is warned
Thanks for the question Angel, its a interesting one
RJ
Hi Roberto, im thinking of buying one for my Home Theater, can you explain me the way to Upload files to the HDD that i can built in without using the USB 3.0?
Can i uploade and delete files? Thank you, and btw, nice review!
Thx for the vid RJ nice toy and design, Himedia Q10 pro or still keep minix z64?
+Mel Berg Embedded Hi3798C V200 64 bit, 10 bit color CPU
+Mel Berg Hey Mel, nice to see you here hehe!!! Regarding these 2 machines i must say that if you are ok with 1080p and 8bit videos then i see no reason to upgrade yet. On the other hand if you want 4K and 10bit video playback than the Q10 pro its a machine to consider as its really interesting
Hope it helps
RJ
Hi RJ It is Always nice to see your vid and your input. I will stay with 1080p for now
Mel Berg
Yep 😀 Thanks Mel. I also believe that for now you are well served 😀
RJ
Hey RJ
1 question does this allow hybrid 3.5 inch sshd to be connected?
Further to this Question
I am not on a budget but definitely look for value for money
I would like the ease of installation but not definitely a deal breaker, can manage rooting or flashing or sideloading.
Would love to have dolby digital 5.1 etc (have a Yamaha YTH 2910)
Need to have the ability to add apps (being from India, netflix will be only english, there are local apps I would like to add to keep my family happy)
I have 4 options
- Himedia q10 pro
- Nvidia shield tv
- himedia x8 octa core
- zidoo x6 pro
Which one would you suggest?
Hey Bharath,
1- Yes you may use any HDD even hybrid but it wont take any advantage of the SSHD speeds.
2- Regarding the root / flash im afraid there is not much info on this box or any custom roms.
3- Sideloading you can achieve in any box :)
4- Sound unfortunately i have no way of testing out but on some written reviews i have seen really nice results on audio pass trough so seems not a bad option on that area
5- For netflix the best option will be the Wetek Core or Nvidia Shield
Lastly from the list below i would go with the Shield TV considering all factors including price and performance
Hope it helps
All the Best
RJ 👍
Hi Roberto, great video.
Hey, I am interested in buying a media player solely to play files with DTS-HD and TrueHD sound to my receiver (as well as having 4k x265 up to 60fps capabilities). What are your thoughts on the best option up to USD 120/130? Also, why is kdlink's A300 so much more expensive than other boxes (USD 220)? Is it worth it? And last question, I swear, any of these boxes would do DTS-HD and TrueHD from their native player (ie outside KODI)?
Hey Man and thanks for the feedback!! Regarding audio i dont have the tools (Capable AV Receiver) That i can test pass trough. The Himedia Q10 Pro fo what i have read is capable of all that. Im not sure about other machines that will pass all those formats. I would suggest searching on Kodi Foruns and see what the community has there in terms of other machines with audio pass trough.
Pass trough has to be hardware capable so should be across all players but Kodi is heavily targeted at Home cinema set-ups and having that in mind it has the ability of playing several audio formats while it might be possible that some players wont be ready for that.
Sorry for the incomplete answer
RJ 👍👍
multi channel object based audio like truehd and Dts:X passthrough is supported by this player when connected to av receiver when played using its inbuilt media player or kodi. VLC in-spite of audio passthrough does not passthrough audio and receiver shows as PCM. the only drawback I found was that media player was unable to play dolby vision demo video files ( blank screen with just audio)
does anybody know if you can use it with a HOTSPOT so i dont need wifi?
great review by the way! amazing quality and the best review i have seen yet!
Hey!! And thanks for the feedback!! 😀
RJ
do i need to buy the hard drive for this box?
+martin “bobafett” Arnaud Yes, the Q10 Pro do not inclued the hard drive.
+martin “bobafett” Arnaud Yep 😀
RJ
anyway to use the hard drive to record?
Not that i know
Could you also test it with higher bitrate 4k videos, 100MBit/sec and higher? Thanks a lot!
Hey!! I dont have any higher Bitrate file sample that i can show on screen, but plays fine my blueray MKV library with 25-30GB per file so it should be just fine
RJ 😀
Here you go - 4k and >=100MBit/sec:
demo-uhd3d.com/fiche.php?cat=uhd&id=14
demo-uhd3d.com/fiche.php?cat=uhd&id=109

👍
tested, they play just fine (at least from the internal HDD)
MiniPC DB
Great and thanks for sharing that result
RJ 😀
How to transfer file in Q10 pro?
No cooling for the HDD?
Not necessary, but i would advise to use green HDD or low rotation HDD´s that will not produce much heat and will sleep when not being used.
RJ 👍
Excellent Review! Congrats!
+Bruno Meireles Capobiango Thanks Bruno!!! 😀
RJ
Hi Rob,.... I am looking for a Media player which would play all my downloaded movies, specially which could output audio Dolby Atmos. I really like Nvidia Shiled tv but thats Out of Stock. What would you recommend me to buy a Media player which would definetly play Dolby Atmos surround sound 5.1.2 ?
dose it still works with out the TB?
+martin “bobafett” Arnaud TB? 😀
Mr RJ . Is the hard drive as easy as plug and play or do you need to do more for it to work. I'm interested but a newbie and don't want to have to pay someone to install if I don't have to. Also can it run Kodi. Please respond. TY
X.
+R.Xristian Mazes Hey Xristian, its not difficult to use but its also not P&P. Installation is easy but to use it you need to know a bit of Kodi so that you can tell Kodi that your movies are on the HDD and to transfer content from your computer to the HDD on the box trough the network you will need to use an app such as ES File Explorer so that we can copy from the computer for ex to the HDD on the box
Hope it helps
RJ 😀
Please consider doing a video. I'm on a very tight budget as I am disabled. I'm looking for a way to cut my cable cord. Any help or suggestions in the way of a video source would be great. Thank you Mr Jorge. Your dedicated subscriber.

R.Xristian Mazes
Hi Xristian, i understand. But there are a lot of videos explaining how to achieve live IPTV.
Here on the channel that is a topic that i dont cover (sorry).
But if you do a quick search on KODI Iptv you will get results 😀
RJ

do you know if this can passthrough 7.1 dts hd ?
+Alexander Hausmanis yes, we support HDMI/RAW/DTS/DTS HD(5.1, 7.1)/DTS-HDMA...
+nicole zhong it says nothing about 7.1 there. i know it supports 5 1 surround sounds but 7.1 ?
+Alexander Hausmanis Hi Alex, unfortunately i still have no way of testing audio pass trough, but on the Kodi forum the guys have tested it and they are reporting 7.1 TrueHD, DTS HRA 7.1 and LCPM 7.1 pass trough with success
Hope it helps
