My 3x G Grandad was born in Riby in 1805, he probably was christened in this church. Interesting film. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your comment - glad you enjoyed the video, and very nice that it has family relevance for you. The church has been restored significantly (certainly inside) since your 3xG-Grandad was christened, although some parts, including the tower, would definitely be recognisable to him 😊

I looked at these along with some other 3s in the area nearly 20 years ago. Glad to see they are ringable now. Things i remember included Harrison clapper springs (not sure if they are still there) and also some reused bits of medieval frame in the ringing chamber ceiling. Sadly my photos of this stuff are long gone

Cheers Kibby, a shame your pics are lost to time - I have uploaded a few in the Post Your Church Bell pics group, although I didn't realise some of the ceiling was medieval frame. They were perfectly fine to ring (I don't know the extent of the 2016 work of course), but always great to see an unringable tower brought back into use.

Cheers for this! Well shot and well edited; very well explained and all! So glad you found this footage… and your timing was perfect! (I'm far from home now -in both distance & time- on the other side of the pond, and as the dawn is breaking over the deep snow on an absolutely perishing morning this has been wonderfully warm to wake up to!) Well done! Ta again!

These make Howden sound like the old clay bells of Liss.
A very strange and depressing sound when rung together but then again when you go and ring a good peal it makes you really savour them.
I always find 3 and 4s rather sad and lonely.
