Your shots of the Daydate has consistently been on of the most stunning shots of the reference available on here on TH-cam. Just my 2 cents.

Bruce, Bruce, Bruce... your friend gave you the opportunity to "collect the experience" of wearing this Rootbeer for a while, make a nice video with it, it won't get a lot better than that so I'd leave it at that or add maybe the modern rootbeer to the collection. The older ref is a beautiful object but I think the day-day looks much better on your wrist. It's interesting to hear how it was your daily and now became your special occasion watch. The President is like a lifestyle, a one-and-done, part of one's identity. Has that experience run its course? 😮

Don't sell the day date. You'll have sellers remorse when you see a day-date on someone else.

If it were me I’d keep the DD and sell off other pieces to pick up the Rootbeer.

He literally only has like 3 or 4 pieces in his collection. He already did a massive downsize about a year and half ago and got rid of all his pieces and consolidated down to the gold DD ($40k watch which is why he decided to do a mass consolidation in the first place), Cartier pasha, and just one or two other watches. So he doesn't have anything to sell. Downsizing his previous collection went to funding that $40k DD.

I love that RootBeer…but don’t get rid of your DayDate.
I think Rolex may introduce a RootBeer GMT on jubilee with the brown SunRay dial this year. I’d wait and see what they introduce

Moving the day/date and getting the root beer as well as the serti sub is the move Bdubs. I think owning the neo-vintage pieces for a while would be an experience worth having.

I agree with a lot of the comments I'm reading about keeping the DD. That DD is ridiculously awesome. Having said that, the root beer is really nice also. I'd sell off some non sentimental pieces in the collection, get the root beer and keep the DD in the collection. Great video!

Well ok then so the Day Date is GONE!!! 🤣🤣🤣 Once the thought is planted in your mind, selling it basically becomes inevitable!! I say go for it! It's not like the Day Date was a safe queen while you were it's caretaker...you wore the CRAP out of that watch!! So perhaps now is the time to move it along and get an entirely different Rolex experience on the wrist for the next year with the vintage Root Beer or Serti Sub!!! Our time on this Earth is so very brief...try to pack in all the different experiences you can!!!! Great video, Bruce!!!

The 5 digit Rolex is positioned the same as Tudor now - its a true tool watch. I like to wear my Polar 16570 to remind me of years past but when I put on my modern reference 124270 Explorer 1 - the improvement in quality is wild. I like having both!

The old Rooter was the first watch I stopped and said I want that ( I was like 13). I've thought of buying one a few times but I can't justify the dollar to quality. I understand that's not what it's about. But I did go for the current Root. My personal favorite modern Rolex.

5D Rolex are pretty cool but their bracelets & clasps are pretty flimsy.

I had my 16713 Rootbeer bracelet overhauled by Rolliworks and it’s night and day different. It was flimsy and loose feeling before and now it’s very tight and confidence inspiring. I had the same experience buying a new oyster bracelet for my 1601. A new one is not cheap feeling. And the good folks at steel reef will sell you a quick adjust link that gives you on the fly adjustment. Love my 5 digits including an identical root beer and with some love given to the bracelets they are very well constructed feeling.

100% agree on the "non-hype" Rolex models - that's where it's at. However, the DD is an icon. Don't sell! Add the 16753 or Serti Sub later.

I’d keep the president all day long! Sell some other pieces if you want the GMT. The older you get the more you’ll want to wear the President I think. It’s just pure class.

  • @mattlatorra264

That root beer looks like it belongs on my grandpa's wrist. Beautiful watch for old men. The Starbucks is pedestrian when compared to your all gold DD. Keep your DD. You are a lost soul when it comes to watch collecting tbh. You never have any conviction in any of your pieces and even when you say you found " a keeper" you eventually want to sell it off. Happened with the Breitling Datora, happened with the Tudor BB chrono, and countless others. Everytime you get a new watch, I can't take you seriously anymore. At some point it will get sold so everything you have to say about it becomes futile.

Come on man, please do not do that. Absolutely HECKKK FF’ing NO - DayDate40 in yellow gold is a heavy hitter and a true big boy watch. A modern DayDate40 can hang with big hitter watches FAR more expensive and still fit in beautifully just because it is that iconic and has that serious of an undeniable presence. For example, I have a 26240 41mm solid rose gold on full bracelet Royal Oak chrono.. market says its worth $110,000 dollars.. I also have a 228238 DD40 exactly the same as yours.. market says that’s worth about $42,000.. The DayDate has every bit the wow factor my AP does. My DayDate has close to the same enjoyment feels it provides.. even though All that charm and other BS you’re talking is cool and all, and has its place in collecting but to replace your daydate absolutely not. You will miss that boss vibe from the DayDate and two tone Rolex’s well never ever be able to provide that. Getting rid of a big hitter to get a couple non heavy hitting watches is NOT the move sir. I was so glad when you dumped the majority of the collection to get that DD40 that was a proper good move. You idea to dump some of the OTHER watches and add the 5 digit root beer sounds fine though! Although what I would do is dump all the tudors, seikos and literally everything else that ISNT the DD40. Scoop the root beer if you do indeed love it that much, but with whatever funds are left, I would say get yourself another solid gold piece or maybe a stainless steel Royal Oak you’ve got the wrist to fit a 41mm Royal Oak beautifully and I think you’d enjoy it a lot!! Whatever you do, keep the dang DD40!! lol!
