City elections matter. One problem we have is that local news is failing to effectively cover local politics, so most people know nothing about local candidates beyond their party, and we end up electing candidates with agendas.

The primary issue is that for years (at this point) people have been focusing on what actually doesn't really matter that much instead of focusing on what needs to actually be happening (and actually doing) on the regular for basic public safety. I currently live in CA (SF Bay Area), but am an AZ native, and frankly, the whole time I've been here in CA I've found myself regularly gobsmacked at much of the mindset of doing simple things like brush clearing, not building houses so close together, not having foliage and brush and trees growing right next to and in many cases up against structures. You think CA is fire prone. AZ is very fire prone, and there's lots of things we do on a regular basis in AZ to reduce the chances of catastrophic fires happening that for some reason are treated like bad words over in CA. I can't tell you how many times I've seen something and said something like "you know if a fire happens, that's going to be a problem" only to have some CA native respond with "but it looks more aesthetic that way" or "but it's more natural that way" or something similar. ?!?!?! I'll take my safety over looking better or more natural any day of the week. It's really basic simple common sense fire prevention stuff that you need to practice on the regular or you're going to have happen what's currently happening now. *It's not that complicated*.
Dad shows his ignorance once more. Los Angeles has always had fires. In the past they weren't as bad simply because the grass fires that burnt weren't full of homes. Now they are. Dry grass and Santa Ana winds. A dangerous combination. One that has led to devestating fires for a long time.
@@DadSavesAmerica If they rebuild there its on them when it all burns down again. These areas should not have been opened up in the first place. No mitigation can stop fires like these. It has all been seen before in Australia which is so much like Cali.
I grew up in California watching the hills of the San Francisco Bay Area burn somewhat frequently. No one who understands wild fires would be so foolish as to build these extremely flammable structures. If they built non combustible buildings much of this catastrophe would not be unfolding.

That is just true whether or not Newsom's argument that fires are the result of "climate change" is correct.
