This is not the first time. An air force trainee named Kara Hultgreen failed her training on the flight simulator. But they wanted to have more female pilots, so they put her in a real airplane, and she crashed and died. Also, a U.S. Supreme Court decision allowed a black guy named Patrick Chavis to become a medical doctor, even though he was not qualified. He killed one of his patients, and butchered several others. You can google both of them.

The primary issue is that for years (at this point) people have been focusing on what actually doesn't really matter that much instead of focusing on what needs to actually be happening (and actually doing) on the regular for basic public safety. I currently live in CA (SF Bay Area), but am an AZ native, and frankly, the whole time I've been here in CA I've found myself regularly gobsmacked at much of the mindset of doing simple things like brush clearing, not building houses so close together, not having foliage and brush and trees growing right next to and in many cases up against structures. You think CA is fire prone. AZ is very fire prone, and there's lots of things we do on a regular basis in AZ to reduce the chances of catastrophic fires happening that for some reason are treated like bad words over in CA. I can't tell you how many times I've seen something and said something like "you know if a fire happens, that's going to be a problem" only to have some CA native respond with "but it looks more aesthetic that way" or "but it's more natural that way" or something similar. ?!?!?! I'll take my safety over looking better or more natural any day of the week. It's really basic simple common sense fire prevention stuff that you need to practice on the regular or you're going to have happen what's currently happening now. *It's not that complicated*.

Minor factual correction: Regular gasoline cars are around 60x more likely to catch fire than electric cars.
But this still does not undercut your point about ridiculous and unsubstantiated government deadlines versus the infrastructure they’d need.
Maybe just let the market work (accounting negative externalities) and we’ll see what consumers prefer at any given moment?

Yeah, you do what you can to mitigate risks. Why do people want to live in California? Because it's beautiful. Unfortunately they voted for people who did nothing to mitigate risks. However, extremism has nothing to do with people blaming others for living in places with natural disasters, it's stupidity.

John’s rhetoric lacks the same logical reasoning as the politicians that he complains about. How convenient to claim the moral high ground yet take no responsibility for helping to create the situation. The Mayor said more with her silence than you just did.

How did I help to create the situation? I’ve never lived in California and I’ve never voted for a Democrat (though I wouldn’t rule it out if there was a reasonable one for me to choose).

Jennifer Balch, University of Colorado fire scientist published a study in the journal Science last October that looked at 60,000 fires since 2001 and found that the fastest-growing ones have more than doubled in frequency since 2001 and caused far more destruction than slower, larger blazes. “The big culprit we're suspecting is a warming climate that's making it easier to burn fuels when conditions are just right.” Summer fires are usually bigger, but they don't burn nearly as fast. Winter fires “are much more destructive because they happen much more quickly”, said US Geological Survey fire scientist Jon Keeley.

It's important to remember that as the causes of climate change become more apparent, the blame-shifting will go into overdrive, which is what we're seeing here.

@@themediaclass NASA says the Earth is greening and is wetter with more food production, so it's a good thing. It will require change, but a warmer Earth is a better Earth. More green means more fuel to burn on the other side of the life cycle.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is often talked about as a big strength, kind of like multiculturalism. You also hear phrases like "the religion of peace" a lot, which seem aimed at shaping how people think and promoting acceptance by saying it over and over.
