Congratulations to both Sony and you. One little correction at 5:10: it is a daughter board. The motherboard is the board that receives the power and main controllers, and usually holds main processor(s) and memory.
Great video! I would personally suggest testing the screen by plugging it in prior to the gluing process in case of defective or damaged screen, but I'd imagine it's pretty difficult to plug and unplug it there.
Very nice. Congratulations on a job well done! This is a good example of how tripods can be dangerous. Whenever one uses a tripod there is always the risk that it will topple over and damage the camera or lens.
Just remeber that the color accuracy of those screens is probably not very good. That chip on the ribbon cable contains the callibations data for the screen and callibration is done during the manufacturing process by the facotry. Non-original screens don't do this step usually. At the moment, I don't know if a way to callibrate camaera screens but I'm sure someone in the cooments section might know.
There are so many instructive videos online nowadays I would urge everybody to attempt some simple repairs themselves.Great confidence builder for more difficult repairs.
Congrats and great work on the screen replacement. but how's the screen colour? do you need to recalibrate the colour for the screen? I heard it will be off colour because every camera and screen are precalibrated in the factory
Not sure this is the best glue for this, most of the time they use some sort of very thing double side foam tape. :) Good job on replacing that screen !
I agree, nice job replacing the screen but I would not use modeling cement to adhere a LCD screen to a frame like that, I bet there is a cheep adhesive on eBay or amazon for it. Other then that great job on replacing the LCD.
Replaced the screen from a old Canon digicam from my father, much harder than this, but worked well too. My only doubt is the quality of the LCD panel itself from these replacement stores. In the case of my father's camera, and from one Samsung S8 screen that I've replaced once too, the colors are different from the original parts, less vivid and a little washed. Did you noticed any difference?

Thank you for sharing ! I put a screen protection on mine, it's the same kind of protection for phones
Excellent fix. I would highly suggest using a double sided tape from Tessa or 3m instead of super glue to adhere the lcd to the frame. I picked up a double sided Tessa tape aimed at the cellphone industry and I have used it for repairs exactly like this.
great job my friend i told you on your instagram story it's easy to fix it new you need to get a scren protection for your camera i love your works keep up.
I bought my first Sony used. And it got really abused. There was plenty of drops, impacts and hits. It's also kept in sweaty pockets and foggy nightclubs. At first the EVF broke, then the aperture, then the LCD and I finally sunset it. I opened it a few times to potentially fix it, and found some kinked cables - but that wasn't the fix. My current camera is a Panasonic, and half a year ago, the built in flash stopped working - which I use a whole lot. I haven't looked into repair or DIY repair myself. It's also not without danger as the flash capacitor can hold charge that can hurt you. I simply stopped bringing my camera or really doing photography that I used to.
Oh, I had a similar experience last year with a Z6 - the screen looked like yours, except no missing parts. I was so sad... then I remembered that, for the first time of my life, I putted a protection on the screen (9H). The camera felt from ~2m on hard and big rocks. The protection took it all, no damage to the screen itself (I had a L-Bracket as well, it surely helped). The best 15€ spent in my life.
Mathieu or any Parisians on here, I'm going on a trip to Paris next week and want good locations for landscape photography. Obviously the landmarks are good but could anyone recommend any particular streets or avenues that might be good too? Much appreciated :)
This is a good fix! Repair shops are expensive, but they will always do the job right (in theory). In fact, you pay off the risk of breaking the camera. But in this case, this fix is easy enough if you have some skill. I did not see how much glue you used for the display, I can imagine that it is important to use just enough to ensure weather proofing. I did not see a rubber ring around the frame, just after unscrewing it. That will also be important for weather proofing the camera.
btw...i bought a roll of the 2 mm double-sided tape that's used to hold the screen... you ha e to have it, also, for replacing the battery, or screen, in a tablet...
Do you think if you have the screen guard it would be protected? I bought my A7 (mark i) with the screen already on it. If it helps cellphones, why not camera screens?
A screen protector will protect from scratching, light impacts, and coating wear, but if the camera falls from a height and impacts the screen no amount of thin glass will save it.
bro!!! my a7siii sensor got burned by sensor after 3 months of buying it. and the worst part is I cant fix it, there are no sensor parts. already been 4 months.
I feel somewhat obligated to say this for anyone reading the comments, working for a large company doing repairs like this - This process will not always be this easy! Sony has done a great job with the a7 - however this is one of very, VERY few cameras where this is true. If you don't feel comfortable or confident, or you are unable to complete the repair (regardless of what it is) - you may find yourself in a place where you have voided the warranty and will not be able to send it in to be repaired. Most manufacturers and the majority of service people may not accept or attempt the repair a device after you have opened it or attempted to fix it prior. (side note: the breakdown of general services and consumer electronics, labor/time/expertise can be anywhere from 60-80% of the total amount. The certification costs, skills and liabilities if something goes wrong can be worth paying the bill in the first case a lot of the time! Just be aware of as many risks and possibilities before committing to repair it yourself!)
I heavily doubt it. If it doesn't use touch inputs, they will not have installed the provisions to support it either. Especially in a device as small and integrated as a digital camera.
@@arachnenet2244 I thought it does the processor, and with the “right” firmware the processor would know what to do with the touchscreen, or what’s the way it actually works?
I had a dead pixel on my then brand new A7RIVa. The repaired screen didnt have the wow of the original resolution upgrade. Im not sure if the australian service agent were honest or just put in some junk screen. Left a bitter taste about sony, they didnt have frequent firmware updates and even adobe left the camera unsupported for 4 months. Sold it.
Thats how i got myself a nerly new (under 500 photos) A7R2 for like 600€ from ebay. Someone droped it short after buying it from amazon. I thougth about selling ist to take profit, but i didnt had a FF camera at this point. The a7r2 is so nice i took it for myself.
beau travail !!
@@DCMedienwrong. They do help with drops. It’s usually the sharpe point of impact that cracks. The glass protector takes the damage and spreads it out. Of course with a hard enough drop at the right angle it could still crack but I take the extra safety all the time.

For a semi flagship camera it’s insane how easy of a replacement this is. I would’ve expected the whole body to be torn down.
That’d be a Nikon
@@greysuit17 Nikon is very easy too, at least the Z50

To be fair. The screen isn't exactly built into the camera.
same!
Congratulations to both Sony and you. One little correction at 5:10: it is a daughter board. The motherboard is the board that receives the power and main controllers, and usually holds main processor(s) and memory.
So cool that you managed to not only fix your camera (and for such an affordable price as well!), but also got to make a cool guide as well!
Totally!

Very likely not as the camera hardware couldn't support it

you should probably test the screen out before applying things. fix more cameras
Get a screen protector. Great video good job.
Ca me tue les gens qui mettent pas de vitre de protection sur les cameras / téléphone
la protection est surtout pour les rayures, pas les chocs.
In the most cases it's useless. If the camera falls to the ground the protector would do nothing
