5-20k USD per month, free housing, free amenities and sponsorships is pretty great. Practicing 8-10 hours a day, frequent traveling and stress from playing too much definitely burns your brain cells though. Life of a pro gamer isn't hard but it isn't easy either.

It's tough because you can easily beat the upper range of that salary with only a few years in the workforce playing your cards right. Esports players go the other way over time, eventually dropping off the team and making less. It almost always ends up not being worth it financially.
same with musicians, gotta use your money right when you get it to keep yourself from going broke
You can just consider that base though. Brand deals and streaming will multiply that many times over. Average League pro also makes many times more than the average Valorant pro and the top players will also make many millions per year.
Definitely a career that makes sense for the people aiming to be the best, which is probably the mindset that most pros tend to have.

The top few percent will make millions sure, but even they have 5-10 years max of prime earning potential before a new 14 year old with lightning reaction time replaces them. By the time you're 30, it's not difficult to outearn the majority of Valorant pros. The gap only widens as you get older.

It's like that for traditional sports as well. "Star" players can make tens of times more than your regular "support" players. Always has been like that in sports.
Most pros also have pretty well-running streams or in the case of someone like Shahzam, VERY GOOD streams. Shahzam actually makes more than enough money from twitch and youtube that he could literally quit being a pro. This applies to other pros as well

context is important. 1k in a 3rd world country, especially as only a video game player, is a lot. context is important. you cannot compare x10's salary in thailand, a 3rd world country, to an NA player's salary and say theres a huge difference.

Stress of staying on top of your game and improving is hard tho. Especially in a video game in which a simple update can change the entire meta and all. An update that is the complete opposite of you can ruin you even if it's only temporary it's enough
