There’s an ex-jw creator called Self-Aware NPC, she talks about how she woke up, and it’s incredibly instructive. She woke up because she scrutinized an issue of Awake, and all it took was very basic fact checking for her to realize she was being deliberately misled. It was borne out of a desire to feel more confident in her faith, too. It’s such a good story, and really gave me a lot of hope for people trapped in high-control groups. I personally believe that curiosity is a virtue, and it just really restored a lot of my faith in people to hear that just a little curiosity led someone to change their life.

You're right. My first two years of talking to my family about this (after I quit JW) were hard because I only wanted to show them what I know and show them they have to be modest and not think that all their doctrines are right. And as of now I sometimes hint stuff but don't really talk about it, because it can really mess them up

I was a Watchtower Witness more than 30 years. I began to notice all the rhetoric in the talks and literature was giving them control. Your explanation is 100% correct. I continued to be active and attend meetings until it was more painful to stay than it was to leave. It got to the point that I felt an uncomfortable spirit when I attended meetings. I had to leave.

Every time I used to ask a question, the Bible Study person would say: “Let’s just put that question ‘up on the shelf’ for now. You’re still a ‘babe in the Truth’.” So that was a distraction and besides that, we were so “love-bombed” during our time of being recruited. It was after the baptism that things got real: the spying, the over-load of ministerial work, et al. I truly enjoyed listening to you, you are right. They do have the right to believe what they want. It’s so hard though when one leaves and one stays. The separation is kind of sad.
I asked my wife about 15 years ago what convinces her this is the truth. Her answer was that the early Christians met in homes and that's why they follow the pattern of the first century. She become a pioneer for the first time last year. Apparently shutting down the home book study did nothing.

Great message this is a way forward for the exjw movement and on personal basis. I like the conclusion that those who hold a different belief will likely go on holding their position long after any conversation with us, but walking our talk and being fully present is the most precious gift we can give our loved ones trapped in the watchtower cult.

The key to wake up JW is to make them think, and love is one way and the most effective way. It always takes a lot of time. The key is still they need to think. They had their neural pathways altered to short circuit certain things. The pain to connect two different realities is very extreme, especially those who simply can’t think for themselves. If I tell you eating plant foods are bad for your health and the environment, and actually eating animals are good for your health and the environment, I believe you think I’m out of my mind. I didn’t know why indigestible plants are healthy for humans, I didn’t know why fully digestible meats are unhealthy for humans, I just believed it for 30 years, I never questioned it, until I was shown the reality and made me think, the indoctrination began when I was a kid, this is the indoctrination absolutely everyone got in the world. Anyway, the JW’s indoctrination is just crazy in my opinion. To break free, they need to think for themselves, and to think for themselves, they need a trigger to make them think. It can be like questions out of their indoctrination, it can be any factual information different from the reality they know. Love and trust are the most effective way to do that, because they are willing to listen and think. The ability to think is the only way out for them.
It's very interesting that, for our JW family and friends to wake up, they have the keys to their freedom, if they would just use that key of THINKING.

Something that I came to realize is that the indoctrination process develop by the Watchtower and sold by the Governing Body is like diving into the deep see. The deeper you get, the darker and more dangerous it becomes. The stronger the indoctrination, the darkest your heart becomes. Empathy and love disappear. Pay attention to Jehova Witnesses love for parents or for their children? How a mother or father can be so cruel and cold with their children because they leave an abusive cult? How can a parent or a son make a human sacrifice and allow their love ones to die instead of saving their lives? Once the indoctrination gets so deep, Jehova Witnesses loose their humanity. They deny the reality of the Governing Body immoralities, crimes and atrocities. Would you allow an Elder to sexually abuse your own child? Would you push one of your own family members to commit suicide like Steven Lett did with his own nephew? Can we understand the psychological, emotional , spiritual and economical damages the Governing Body and Watchtower exert over millions of people?

@@irenegarcia3418 thanks for sharing. My question to you is, are we not manipulated as an example into believing democracy over communism? Or evolution over creation? Or pro choice over pro life? My overall point, If we look at the big picture, aren’t we manipulated in every single thing imaginable since birth. So is that on JW or is that something that is just apart of this world we live in?

I would suggest looking at each experience in life with the individual person and their own actions and not subjecting a whole group of people to that experience.

That’s a big step for you and trust me quite scary for your wife. She sees you as a source of strength and with you quitting meetings she is terrified. Keep reassuring her that you love her no matter what. She needs it now more than anything

Very handsome 🥰. Aside from that, I couldn't answer what convinced me it was the truth. I was very much in doctrine and believed everything was based on the New World Translation. However, I didn't know this until a ministerial servant took me aside and told me that everything that I believe has to come solely from the Watchtower. I corrected him and said, "You mean the Bible." He said, "No, only the Watchtower. If it's in the Watchtower, then it must be true." At that point I felt so sad. I left in 1998 as a late teen and started reading my Bible to see what it really teaches.
And that misguided person probably left the truth too. It's the ones who have left reality that seems to be the ones to leave. They are the ones who are extremely restrictive, especially to their kids. But the balanced ones who can reasonably defend why JW has the truth, are the ones who stay.
I disassociated 3 months ago after 35 years I started studying while I was living with my boyfriend, we did get married but he wasn’t interested and aren’t I glad! All these years he’s stayed with me because he loved me regardless! He is an atheist! I always hoped he’d come into Jehovah’s organisation but so thankful he didn’t. What a mixed up bunch Jehovah’s Witnesses really are and we don’t realise what is being done to us. Im now so much happier than I’ve been in a very long time and my husband is delighted as he hasn’t had the marriage he had hoped for we have been divided but not now. Im going through some difficult days realizing what I’ve been part of but I know I’ve made the right decision finally and wish it had been sooner!
My marriage fell apart. For me the JW religion could not be criticized. What made me awake was that I read the Bible and found out that no way is the Bible true and the Bible is not the word of God, if there is a God. Joshua 10 : 13, I got stuck on that cosmology. It clearly supports flat earth, and the earth clearly is not flat and that cosmology is wrong.

20:18 It's determined by your projected average pleasure minus pain for the rest of your existance. This implies several differences. 1. If the afterlife is not real then a large potential pleasure has been removed from the equation. 2. If the god is not good then if the afterlife is real it means a large pain has been added to the equation. 3. Infinite duration vs finite duration has no bearing on the decision, since an average is a time-collapsed measure. 4. If it is not the case that their rules are helpful because they are made by an autodeceptive (unreliable) method. Then it cannot be the "best life ever" because the rules do not create the desired effect (there are far more ways to fail than there are to succeed thus if you method for determining what to do is not valid (its presumtions are false) then you will fail more than if you were using a valid method) and eliminate potential goods for poor reasons. The very fact that it is not true makes it impossible that it is the best life ever.
Blood is a good subject to show personal interest in wellbeing, BUT it has two major hangups that a pure "what is true" question does not have. 1. It's contingent. The only time blood matters is if something goes wrong where they need it, so most likely they will not die of it. It's only an aggrevated risk. 2. Paradise takes the teeth out of death. A true believer doesn't care if they die, particularly if done in a way that more or less gurantees their resurrection. By contrast, addressing what is true, pre-empts the second hangup, and increases the value of life such that risks are more motivating than they would be to a theist.

I let my relatives believe anything that they want. I don't bother to try and wake them up. They have given up on me ever returning to the cult. The most I say is, do you really believe that, or does that make sense to you? If they don't answer, then I feel that I got through. If they say yes, then nuff said.
Love outside is not "unconditional" that is either a lie or a chemical imparitive (eg parental instinct). The love outside is conditional but those conditions are dramatically easier to satisfy and are based on things actually relevant to the relationship as opposed to behaviors that benefit an uncaring third party.
Some JWs need to know they're suffering - because that means it's the truth! So if you have a 'good' life it's an indicator to them that it's Satan's way - remember, the road is narrow. It has to be hard!
Before you take away something, you have to have something to replace it with. Before you criticize something, you have to have an alternative to offer. Good luck with that.
@@MrRklewis Why not? There's a case to be made for both, depending on which interpretation you find the most convincing. There are some pretty smart people who believe in the rapture too (or "floating away to heaven," as you dysphemistically put it).

And so it is realistic to accept that God will do it again. Especially when he says that our times are just like the times when these same things happened. Matt.24:37 For instance: God has brought this world to an end with only a small number of people surviving. He didn't have His people leave the earth. But he protected them while death was all around them. The same for the Israelites during the 10 plagues. Also, God put man on earth and gave him a Paradise to live in. The bible speaks of the restoration of all things. Acts 3:21 And so is it realistic that what Jehovah purposed for the earth will be restored. Yes, read Isaiah 55:11 The rapture as describe by these "smart" people does not make sense. Nor is a precedent set for that ever taking place. The correct interpretation of that is that when Jesus comes to set up his kingly government. The chosen ones who died who will reign with him will rise first. Then the living will rise "WHEN THEY DIE." Not while they're flying airplanes or driving a car at 70 miles per hour on the freeway. As the bible says, not all will sleep in death. But they will be changed in a twinkling of the eye. Meaning when they fall asleep in death, they will not have to wait for their call up. But they will rise immediately upon death. And again, this is for those who will reign with Jesus for the 1000 years. Rev.20:4,6 The people who believe in the rapture think that all good people go to heaven to be protected from the great tribulation. They have no concept that only those who will reign with Jesus go to heaven. And since they have no concept of who goes to heaven and what they will do there, do you think that Jesus will have clueless people reigning with him? And the bible says that the chosen will survive the tribulation. They will be protected during that time. Just as Noah was protected. They will be the foundation members of the new world. Of whom Jesus and his 144,000 associate rulers will reign over to prepare the earth for the resurrection of billions more who will be guided during the 1000 year millennium.
Bringing up CSA was not fruitful, even though that’s why many others have left. He is absolutely right. If your intentions are to have a “gotcha” moment, it will fail every time. Ask questions about their doctrine using their own literature and do it from a place of love. I was told they believed it to be the truth because of the love and acceptance they felt in addition to the level of organization and structure within the org.

What right does the governing body have to dictate or give spiritual guidance. Any man that says he hears from Jehovah on your behalf is acting in the role of a prophet. We already have been given the word of God. Why is there a need for a governing body when we have the Christ already. Authority was given to Jesus and Jesus alone. The governing body did not sacrifice their lives like Christ did. How could they enjoy the authority given to the Christ. So ask yourself not who is Jehovah but who is Christ and who is the governing body. I’m not governed by any MAN. The Bible clearly states in every single translation ever written that there is only one mediator between god and man. That mediator is Jesus. Not the governing body or watchtower. Anyone who reads or studies that publication is studying the thoughts and opinions of men. And those men have become your savior!
What is my intent? My intent would be to let my brother know I love him still, that it’s all ok. He can believe JW religion if he so desires yet I miss him. Problem is, he has to think of me “...as one dead.” So I can’t see him. Rather, he can’t see me. So you’re right, Sir, to a degree, but Watchtower prevents them from talking to an “apostate”. Your approach to the Blood Issue is good yet care or not, they are still under tremendous pressure to die or allow death rather than take proper medical treatment. It really is not up to them individually. And...it’s not that they truly believe it’s the “Truth”, it’s that they do not want to be shunned and lose their families if they become disfellowshipped. I appreciate all you say, yet shunning and loss is cruel and unusual. It’s not so easy. I lost a husband and a brother. Pain. But remember: the JW is prepared for persecution. What they don’t realize is that they are the persecutors, shunning and hurting those who are leaving. I admire the fact that you thought of your children and breaking the abuse pattern rather than dropping the whole WT load on them. Good man. Thank you. And life in the world is a balance: Joy. There’s an ex-jw creator called Self-Aware NPC, she talks about how she woke up, and it’s incredibly instructive. She woke up because she scrutinized an issue of Awake, and all it took was very basic fact checking for her to realize she was being deliberately misled. It was borne out of a desire to feel more confident in her faith, too. It’s such a good story, and really gave me a lot of hope for people trapped in high-control groups. I personally believe that curiosity is a virtue, and it just really restored a lot of my faith in people to hear that just a little curiosity led someone to change their life.

I was a Watchtower Witness more than 30 years. I began to notice all the rhetoric in the talks and literature was giving them control. Your explanation is 100% correct. I continued to be active and attend meetings until it was more painful to stay than it was to leave. It got to the point that I felt an uncomfortable spirit when I attended meetings. I had to leave.

Every time I used to ask a question, the Bible Study person would say: “Let’s just put that question ‘up on the shelf’ for now. You’re still a ‘babe in the Truth’.” So that was a distraction and besides that, we were so “love-bombed” during our time of being recruited. It was after the baptism that things got real: the spying, the over-load of ministerial work, et al.

Great message this is a way forward for the exjw movement and on personal basis. I like the conclusion that those who hold a different belief will likely go on holding their position long after any conversation with us, but walking our talk and being fully present is the most precious gift we can give our loved ones trapped in the watchtower cult.

The key to wake up JW is to make them think, and love is one way and the most effective way. It always takes a lot of time. The key is still they need to think. They had their neural pathways altered to short circuit certain things. The pain to connect two different realities is very extreme, especially those who simply can’t think for themselves.
If I tell you eating plant foods are bad for your health and the environment, and actually eating animals are good for your health and the environment, I believe you think I’m out of my mind. I didn’t know why indigestible plants are healthy for humans, I didn’t know why fully digestible meats are unhealthy for humans, I just believed it for 30 years, I never questioned it, until I was shown the reality and made me think, the indoctrination began when I was a kid, this is the indoctrination absolutely everyone got in the world.
Anyway, the JW’s indoctrination is just crazy in my opinion. To break free, they need to think for themselves, and to think for themselves, they need a trigger to make them think. It can be like questions out of their indoctrination, it can be any factual information different from the reality they know. Love and trust are the most effective way to do that, because they are willing to listen and think. The ability to think is the only way out for them.
It's very interesting that, for our JW family and friends to wake up, they have the keys to their freedom, if they would just use that key of THINKING.

Something that I came to realize is that the indoctrination process develop by the Watchtower and sold by the Governing Body is like diving into the deep see. The deeper you get, the darker and more dangerous it becomes. The stronger the indoctrination, the darkest your heart becomes. Empathy and love disappear. Pay attention to Jehova Witnesses love for parents or for their children? How a mother or father can be so cruel and cold with their children because they leave an abusive cult? How can a parent or a son make a human sacrifice and allow their love ones to die instead of saving their lives? Once the indoctrination gets so deep, Jehova Witnesses loose their humanity. They deny the reality of the Governing Body immoralities, crimes and atrocities. Would you allow an Elder to sexually abuse your own child? Can we understand the psychological, emotional , spiritual and economical damages the Governing Body and Watchtower exert over millions of people?

@@irenegarcia3418 thanks for sharing. My question to you is, are we not manipulated as an example into believing democracy over communism? Or evolution over creation? Or pro choice over pro life? My overall point, If we look at the big picture, aren’t we manipulated in every single thing imaginable since birth. So is that on JW or is that something that is just apart of this world we live in?

I would suggest looking at each experience in life with the individual person and their own actions and not subjecting a whole group of people to that experience.

Aside from that, I couldn't answer what convinced me it was the truth. I was very much in doctrine and believed everything was based on the New World Translation. However, I didn't know this until a ministerial servant took me aside and told me that everything that I believe has to come solely from the Watchtower. I corrected him and said, "You mean the Bible." He said, "No, only the Watchtower. If it's in the Watchtower, then it must be true." At that point I felt so sad. I left in 1998 as a late teen and started reading my Bible to see what it really teaches.
And that misguided person probably left the truth too. It's the ones who have left reality that seems to be the ones to leave. They are the ones who are extremely restrictive, especially to their kids. But the balanced ones who can reasonably defend why JW has the truth, are the ones who stay.
I disassociated 3 months ago after 35 years I started studying while I was living with my boyfriend, we did get married but he wasn’t interested and aren’t I glad! All these years he’s stayed with me because he loved me regardless! He is an atheist! I always hoped he’d come into Jehovah’s organisation but so thankful he didn’t. What a mixed up bunch Jehovah’s Witnesses really are and we don’t realise what is being done to us. Im now so much happier than I’ve been in a very long time and my husband is delighted as he hasn’t had the marriage he had hoped for we have been divided but not now. Im going through some difficult days realizing what I’ve been part of but I know I’ve made the right decision finally and wish it had been sooner!
My marriage fell apart. For me the JW religion could not be criticized. What made me awake was that I read the Bible and found out that no way is the Bible true and the Bible is not the word of God, if there is a God. Joshua 10 : 13, I got stuck on that cosmology. It clearly supports flat earth, and the earth clearly is not flat and that cosmology is wrong.
Isaiah 40:22 reads, “It is He [i.e. God] who sits above the circle of the earth.” circle in Hebrew is khûg ( indicating a sphere )
Job 26:7, states that God “hangs the earth on nothing,” indicating that the ancient Hebrews had quite a sophisticated understanding of cosmology.

Then it cannot be the "best life ever" because the rules do not create the desired effect (there are far more ways to fail than there are to succeed thus if you method for determining what to do is not valid (its presumtions are false) then you will fail more than if you were using a valid method) and eliminate potential goods for poor reasons. The very fact that it is not true makes it impossible that it is the best life ever.

Blood is a good subject to show personal interest in wellbeing, BUT it has two major hangups that a pure "what is true" question does not have.
1. It's contingent. The only time blood matters is if something goes wrong where they need it, so most likely they will not die of it. It's only an aggrevated risk.
2. Paradise takes the teeth out of death. A true believer doesn't care if they die, particularly if done in a way that more or less gurantees their resurrection.
By contrast, addressing what is true, pre-empts the second hangup, and increases the value of life such that risks are more motivating than they would be to a theist.

I let my relatives believe anything that they want. I don't bother to try and wake them up. They have given up on me ever returning to the cult. The most I say is, do you really believe that, or does that make sense to you? If they don't answer, then I feel that I got through. If they say yes, then nuff said.
Love outside is not "unconditional" that is either a lie or a chemical imparitive (eg parental instinct). The love outside is conditional but those conditions are dramatically easier to satisfy and are based on things actually relevant to the relationship as opposed to behaviors that benefit an uncaring third party.
Some JWs need to know they're suffering - because that means it's the truth! So if you have a 'good' life it's an indicator to them that it's Satan's way - remember, the road is narrow. It has to be hard!
Before you take away something, you have to have something to replace it with. Before you criticize something, you have to have an alternative to offer. Good luck with that.
And you can't replace living in a Paradise earth forever with waiting for a trumpet sound and floating away to heaven.

And so it is realistic to accept that God will do it again. Especially when he says that our times are just like the times when these same things happened. Matt.24:37 For instance: God has brought this world to an end with only a small number of people surviving. He didn't have His people leave the earth. But he protected them while death was all around them. The same for the Israelites during the 10 plagues. Also, God put man on earth and gave him a Paradise to live in. The bible speaks of the restoration of all things. Acts 3:21 And so is it realistic that what Jehovah purposed for the earth will be restored. Yes, read Isaiah 55:11
The rapture as describe by these "smart" people does not make sense. Nor is a precedent set for that ever taking place. The correct interpretation of that is that when Jesus comes to set up his kingly government. The chosen ones who died who will reign with him will rise first. Then the living will rise "WHEN THEY DIE." Not while they're flying airplanes or driving a car at 70 miles per hour on the freeway. As the bible says, not all will sleep in death. But they will be changed in a twinkling of the eye. Meaning when they fall asleep in death, they will not have to wait for their call up. But they will rise immediately upon death. And again, this is for those who will reign with Jesus for the 1000 years. Rev.20:4,6
The people who believe in the rapture think that all good people go to heaven to be protected from the great tribulation. They have no concept that only those who will reign with Jesus go to heaven. And since they have no concept of who goes to heaven and what they will do there, do you think that Jesus will have clueless people reigning with him? And the bible says that the chosen will survive the tribulation. They will be protected during that time. Just as Noah was protected. They will be the foundation members of the new world. Of whom Jesus and his 144,000 associate rulers will reign over to prepare the earth for the resurrection of billions more who will be guided during the 1000 year millennium.

Bringing up CSA was not fruitful, even though that’s why many others have left. He is absolutely right. If your intentions are to have a “gotcha” moment, it will fail every time. Ask questions about their doctrine using their own literature and do it from a place of love. I was told they believed it to be the truth because of the love and acceptance they felt in addition to the level of organization and structure within the org.

What right does the governing body have to dictate or give spiritual guidance. Any man that says he hears from Jehovah on your behalf is acting in the role of a prophet. We already have been given the word of God. Why is there a need for a governing body when we have the Christ already. Authority was given to Jesus and Jesus alone. The governing body did not sacrifice their lives like Christ did. How could they enjoy the authority given to the Christ. So ask yourself not who is Jehovah but who is Christ and who is the governing body. I’m not governed by any MAN. The Bible clearly states in every single translation ever written that there is only one mediator between god and man. That mediator is Jesus. Not the governing body or watchtower. Anyone who reads or studies that publication is studying the thoughts and opinions of men. And those men have become your savior!
What is my intent? My intent would be to let my brother know I love him still, that it’s all ok. He can believe JW religion if he so desires yet I miss him. Problem is, he has to think of me “...as one dead.” So I can’t see him. Rather, he can’t see me. So you’re right, Sir, to a degree, but Watchtower prevents them from talking to an “apostate”. Your approach to the Blood Issue is good yet care or not, they are still under tremendous pressure to die or allow death rather than take proper medical treatment. It really is not up to them individually. And...it’s not that they truly believe it’s the “Truth”, it’s that they do not want to be shunned and lose their families if they become disfellowshipped. I appreciate all you say, yet shunning and loss is cruel and unusual. It’s not so easy. I lost a husband and a brother. Pain. But remember: the JW is prepared for persecution. What they don’t realize is that they are the persecutors, shunning and hurting those who are leaving. I admire the fact that you thought of your children and breaking the abuse pattern rather than dropping the whole WT load on them. Good man. Thank you. And life in the world is a balance: Joy. Thank you. I read the Bible quite diligently. It clearly states that last days started about 2,000 years ago and still waiting. Maybe it’s time to read it for what it really is not for what we wish it was.
