I don't know if it was Toriyama original script or the people who worked after it but this show is paced in a manga way. At first every episode seems like Toriyama wrote a manga chapter of 16 pages streched out a whole episode. To compared the usual anime episode goes from 3-4 chapters. What could be a montage or a transition in a regular episode takes half of it
It's funny how two people's experiences can effect how they see things I know someone who hates the Giant Episode about as much as Kaiser dislikes the episode afer it. There reasons being that it is full of false tension. The characters are only in danger because the plot requires them to forget what their powers are. They even cite Goku falling towards the seal as a moment that works better than falling in the book back, because Goku being unconscious makes it work. Both your opinions and their's are valid, of course. It's just interesting how much y'all differ
I think, making the giant world resident a child was a conscious choice on the writing part. Because while it is most likely true if Goku powered up to the max he could kill the giant, it just being a kid walking back from school makes a big difference for that option
31:06 didn’t they literally pan to the eye on his belt after goma stopped ranting about it in an earlier episode or did I imagine this. Because that was clear to me instantly
tbf the scene of hybis explaining abt the eye on his belt (ending w/ ominous zoom in) comes right BEFORE the scene where gomah finds out goku & co. are in the demon realm and says he should've wished for the oculus. still, I think they made it fairly obvious
Lani: "I think if they stick the landing this might be my second or third favourite dragon ball" Fans: "*what's the first*" Cause he's either saying it's better than Z or that it's better than OG DB, and either one is gonna piss people off
34:51 also... Talking Tamagami... I mean, I know, it's for the laughs and we shouldn't think to much of it... But I'd still like to ask what you guys think could be the lore reason for the second part of the Tamagami Challenge? Like. "Ok. Answer this question. If you can't answer this question, you won't get the dragonball." "Ok. But, what are you gonna do to stop me from still getting the ball? I already beat your ass, how you gonna stop me from just taking it?" I know "don't worry about it" is the most likely answer. But I would have really appreciated to get some insight. Maybe the Dragon ball gets destroyed or teleported away or anything else? They had the maker of the Demon world DragonBalls there. Couldn't he just dump a bit more lore into us for that and maybe at one point just shave like 2 minutes off of Goku falling down that pit? :D
The giant planet was kind of a filler episode in the sense that it didn’t advance the main plot, but it was like the driving episode in Z or the baseball episode in Super where it shows that life happens outside the main plot and fun and interesting things can still happen. Sure, the story didn’t progress, but I was still entertained.
I really liked Episode 14, it really felt like a calm before the storm, but if they drop the ball on the last 6 episodes, that could make me retroactively like it a lot less. I have trouble commenting on pacing until the thing is done! Because it's incredibly based on my assumptions until that point.
My immediate thoughts on the Beta Ginyu Force was that they are in fact the elite force of the Demon realm. But that they are just horribly outmatched. It's like sending the navy seals to stop kid Goku. Or fighting a boss from level 1 in a game as a lvl 90 character. They are not incompetent, just outclassed. And it's another classic Toriyama-ism, playing with the expectations of the watchers. With the watchers expecting a powerful threat that is a bit goofy like the Ginyu Force. But is actually only a goofy troop (at least for our group).
I don't think the watchers were expecting a powerful threat, tho? The moment we hear abt the gendarmerie force they're acting goofy and making it clear they're not strong enough to mess w/ goku. rly not like the ginyus who were a threat (and treated as such) despite being goofballs
Honestly, I don't have much of a problem with the fall length here. Terminal velocity of a human is frankly pretty slow all things considered. Videogames 3D have to use gravity stronger than Earths for the fall speed to feel right to the player, and well I know from the shot it didn't look like that big of a distance, but we have the shot showing us entrance to both demon worlds, and we know that in that height fit entire planets, sure they may be very small planets, but the giant people planet also fits in that distance that Goku was falling for
@@RancorSnpThe real problem is they had a ship full of people who could fly and they just completely ignored that fact Goku was incapacitated and falling to who knows where, every second he was falling it became more apparent no one gave a shit.
@Substantial-hf1rm yeah, I mean, should they? It's Goku. Neva undoing the barriers didn't matter for the Goku situation since he came to long before making contact. I know that I wasn't concerned
@@RancorSnp The show wanted it both ways, a cheap way to add tension all while not really giving a damn. If it wasn't an issue then the long drawing out sequence of Goku dramatically falling while Pansy screams into the camera should have been cut, if it did matter then just have her go catch him. I get making an adventure story with super powerful characters is hard, but at the very least a writer should know not to make a big deal about falling when 95% of the roster can fly.
@@Substantial-hf1rm I feel like how big of a deal him falling is depends on the viewer, not the writer here. To me Goku falling was just the backdrop to Neva's thing, not much of tension there - basically showing us WHY the barriers are stopping the demon world residents. Not an actual threat to Goku
An episode does not need to move the plot nor does anything relevant have to happen for a good episode to happen. The story just has to be interesting. So many side stories in anime are my favorite parts of the anime itself.
The original opening for Zeta Gundam has a very similar situation as Daima's OP. The song was licensed from a foreign artist to be used in Japan, but it was heavily changed and had all new lyrics. The original artist hated it so much, he's never allowed them to include it in any overseas release of the show. The very fact it's included in all releases worldwide afaik is already a good sign. If the original artist for Daima's OP didn't want that version to be released, we'd probably know by now, so I imagine there's some other random reason it hasn't been put out yet. Nevertheless, I hope we get it soon.
I was at the grocery store the other day, and heard the song that was used for Daima's opening over the stores PA. I think its called "Out of Time" by Zedd. I honestly thought "Wow, Daima must be doing pretty well if they're playing the theme song on the radio"
I’ll say 14 was one of the first times an episode of a show ended and I sat there blinking like “Wait…what? Its over already?” I hate when people say that for shows all the time, this was one the very few times i felt that
Cui and Dui are just too adorable not to keep around. I wish they could be Pan’s sidekicks when Pan hopefully takes over the main character role (because Pan in Super Hero was perfect and precious).
The whole bit of Goku falling was completely extra. Totally agree with the boys. My thought during the whole thing was “Why didn’t someone go fly and catch him?” But instead we all just watch Neva do his thing and just expect Goku to be okay… But like, what if Goku was completely out? He would have kept falling through the gate. Additional note as I type while continuing to listen: the point of the commercial break was at the 16’ point. There were only 8:30 left after the break! Which ultimately was like 6 minutes because of the EP and preview for next week.
Last thing to mention: at the end of 14 when they are fleeing the ship, Glorio has Hybis take a dragonball. Which is interesting because if he is supposed to bring them to Arinsu, why wouldn’t he take both? Anyways, could also be part of the reason why Hybis might get captured. Then Arinsu will have access to all 3 dragonballs and Gomah will discover the Evil Third Eye. Classic storytelling trope of the bad guy getting the maguffin that our heroes need to figure out how to overcome.

One thing I've loved so far is that, by and large, the sensible serious adult in the room isn't Piccolo, it's Shin. And he's a sweetheart, mostly, so he's not going to be the one to go "hey real quick just go SSJ and waste this threat, guys."
Goku is falling for about 150 seconds. On Earth for a person free falling in a belly down position, terminal velocity is about 120 mph. Ignoring acceleration time that gives Goku a fall distance of 26,400 feet. For comparison passenger jet plane cruising altitude is 35,000-42,000 feet. Considering he’s falling from a hole in the top of the sky, being that high seems entirely reasonable!
Everyone that has a problem with episode 13 is just cause they are watching week to week. Once its all out and you can binge, no one will be bothered by it, its a great episode
36:33 I'm surprised to hear Lani, a man who just sat through all of GT and Heroes say he skipped through parts of Super?? And it shouldn't be a remote surprise that Daima has better presentation than Super, considering one was a weekly normal show and the other is a seasonal special show.
I mean, there's a difference between watching something for a video and on your own. They make it very clear having to sit through GT and Heroes wasn't exactly the most enjoyable thing they did in their lives ^^
I think ppl forget how much of the goku black arc is spent chilling at capsule corp while bulma fixes the time machine (and I think lani mentioned before how extra he found it they went to the future and back like 3 times). or the fact it takes 20 eps into the universe survival arc for the tournament of power to actually start. a lot of ppl also just skipped over the first 2 arcs of super bc they saw the movies already. some ppl--not a lot, but some--even skipped the u6 arc bc it was covered in the manga first and they doubted the anime would do it better. it's rlly no wonder it feels like ppl forget half of super exists lol
I have been called upon to comment on Lani's hair, and I shall answer forthwith! As a being who bears long hair himself, I do this day commend one Lanipator for his most luscious of locks!
Come on you haven't touched Shin's "I'm not tasty!" line? He's totes lying. Bro's a fruit, bet he tastes like one, therefore he is tasty. Also yeah just, I guess all the Warp-samas having their consciousness linked to a single lever is an interesting piece of worldbuilding. Like, do they know about it? Are they okay with it? Or are they suddenly like 'mmm feeling tired, time to eep'? So many questions. And during 14 yeah I was at one point shaking in my seat cause like why did nobody bothered to catch Goku? Vegeta? Shin? Piccolo? Really all of them just staring smh. Also the little convenience store scene brought up the demons' questionable tastes in crisp flavours. Trash salt and mold mayonnaise? Ewie. Also yeah episode 15 was basically one big fight with the crew against the army. Yep yep. And yes the Eye is in it... no more spoilers though :3 And next episode is titled Degesu. And I am so for it.
The story I head from TotallyNotMark's channel about Zedd reusing Out of Time for Jaka Jaan turned me from disappointed to a sobbing mess over how important the instrumental seemed to be for Zedd and what his choice to reuse it might mean.
listen. i've been watching through the whole series properly for the first time recently (starting with OG DB). i'm also watching the Daima episodes as they release. i've just recently finished the entire frieza saga. i don't give a good god DAMN what anyone has to say about Daima's pacing. it's 20 episodes. it's FINE. things are HAPPENING in each episode. MULTIPLE THINGS happening EACH EPISODE. yall can calm your tits
Glad you guys didn't include Great Saiyaman in the Sentai parody list. That's more a parody of Kamen Rider & you can tell with the helmet. Specifically Riderman, I think, who has a similar one.
The one thing that has me interested in the utilization of the beta ginyu's is the fact that the leader is voiced by the person who plays Kogoro Mouri from Detective Conan. That gives me hope that they're here to do something.
I wonder. Anytime Newa does something crazy you get that ominous music and his eyes shine red and bit evil. I am sure there is way more to him, if he will be a big issue later on not sure. I just dont hope that they pull a King Piccolo and Slug with him.
Prediction having not seen Daima yet: Neva is going to almost die, and Piccolo will fuse with him to get even more powerful in a way that ultimately doesn't matter.
unless they make up new rules, he cant. Neva is a Dragon Clan Namekian. They can't fuse with warriors like Piccolo. Before someone inevitably brings it up; Kami was an exception because Piccolo and Kami used to be the same Namekian, they were just recombining.
@saphcal genuine question, when was that ever a rule? Because in Super they had the Universe 6 Namekians fuse until there was only two left for the Tournament of Power, and it's incredibly unlikely they were all the same clan
@@kurosakikun96U6 probably evolved differently. We see during namek arc that nail was basically the only warrior left. Otherwise he would have fused with everyone
Ep 13 was fun but felt like a missed opportunity to let Piccolo do some giant form shenanigans. Definitely went, "that was it?" at the end, because it felt like that could've earned a second episode with the premise, but it was still a fun ep.
Rare time that I disagree with Kaiser about like 13 and hating 14. 13 to me although it was a fun episode and it continues the whimsical element of daima, if this was before the Tamagami fight I would agree but like he said about ep 14 we are in the final stretch of the show and we only have 6 eps left (after 15) id rather not have this episode to maybe give an extra episode for the climax. NOW he isn't wrong where there is a lil too much padding in the episode but like Lani i didn't find it egregious and I enjoyed the market scene with its obvious gag that played out. P.s DUU KUU are amazing kids and loved their reaction was still grateful for the free chocolate
degesu did suggest that mabe arinsu is protecting the dragon ball for them, though goma expressed his doubts. still weird that they dont confront arinsu tho
The Goku falling forever bit was a bit much, but Neva is definitely one of the best highlights of the show. I feel like they didn't need to have Goku falling the way he did for it to be meaningful. Or at least, they could have upped the pace on that. It was Freiza saga pacing all over again.
I definitely agree with Scott that it's really weird how Gomah and Degesu have seen and KNOW that Arinsu has the 1 Star Dragonball for a couple episodes now yet haven't made any moves to check in with her. Like Lani posited Degesu also broached the idea that maybe Arinsu was collecting it to keep it away from Goku and the gang but Gomah was not buying that idea. Overall I do love Daima but yea the writing and pacing could've used a few more revisions
my only guess is they don't have the balls--no pun intended--to confront her abt it bc she has her majin bois to protect her, but it's still weird they haven't done anything. esp since duu and kuu left her for a bit to get snacks, giving them a chance
Throughout the history of the franchise, they rarely powered up all the way from the very start. Usually to test the waters or preserve energy for the big bad. So them not going Super Saiyan straight away didn't bother me. Bothered me even less in ep 15 because of some shots of innocent onlookers in the area. Won't say more and spoil anything, but going full power could have collateral damage.
I prefer Ep 14 over Ep 13 due to it progressing the plot. I'd prefer not to stop everything in order to have a side plot happen toward the 2nd half of the series. I agree with Kaiser. Goku falling did take way too long.

I think, making the giant world resident a child was a conscious choice on the writing part. Because while it is most likely true if Goku powered up to the max he could kill the giant, it just being a kid walking back from school makes a big difference for that option
So glad you mentioned the song because I heard the other version on an ESPN commercial and I’ve been confused ever since.
Beta Ginyu Force: *Exist*
………
“Sure is Zarbon in here…”
"These are my finest demons..."
Scott taking just as long as Goku falling to explain how much he hates Goku falling. 😂
31:06 didn’t they literally pan to the eye on his belt after goma stopped ranting about it in an earlier episode or did I imagine this. Because that was clear to me instantly
they absolutely did.
tbf the scene of hybis explaining abt the eye on his belt (ending w/ ominous zoom in) comes right BEFORE the scene where gomah finds out goku & co. are in the demon realm and says he should've wished for the oculus. still, I think they made it fairly obvious
Lani: "I think if they stick the landing this might be my second or third favourite dragon ball"
Fans: "*what's the first*"
Cause he's either saying it's better than Z or that it's better than OG DB, and either one is gonna piss people off
Hybis is litterally perfect.
Scott I knew I wasn't crazy. The original version of the opening, I heard it on the Walmart speakers one day and recognized it as the Diama opening.
I already beat your ass, how you gonna stop me from just taking it?"
I know "don't worry about it" is the most likely answer. :D
The grocery store scene, while it wasn't particularly funny, it was very cute, so I like it.
Ep 13: is one of if not the single most hated episode of Daima
Lani and Kaiser: This is our favorite episode.
Love it lol (I enjoyed the episode too).
Credit to Lani for stretching out his defense of the indefensible length of time Goku fell for the sake of the metacommentary joke.
37:46 When scott was like "do you know", i immediately was like "yes i do know"😂
Arnie Sue 😂😂😂😂
An episode does not need to move the plot nor does anything relevant have to happen for a good episode to happen. The story just has to be interesting. So many side stories in anime are my favorite parts of the anime itself.
Goku was falling in Namek destruction time.
I still find it amazing that anyone could watch more than 3 episodes of super, I struggled to watch the second one 😄
The dog looks like Broly’s pet Baa. 11:17
I thought the exact same thing when those guys appeared "Sure is Zarbon in here." 😂 Toriyama really did love his dance choreography didn't he
I was at the grocery store the other day, and heard the song that was used for Daima's opening over the stores PA. I think its called "Out of Time" by Zedd. I honestly thought "Wow, Daima must be doing pretty well if they're playing the theme song on the radio"
It almost feels like they wrote each arc as one whole episode and split it into mini episodes especially with how abruptly it ends sometimes
Kaiser stated exactly how i feel. 10:26
This episode finally felt like a proper adventure like Dragonball.
Daima made Shin Godzilla Kamehamehas
Degesu falsely believed that Arinsu was getting the Dragonball for them, but Gomah was skeptical still in that same prior episode.
38:29 Oh hey! The opening recycling is a proud tradition. Neil Sedaka did that for Zeta Gundam’s music when hired by Tomino.
I’ll say 14 was one of the first times an episode of a show ended and I sat there blinking like “Wait…what? Its over already?” I hate when people say that for shows all the time, this was one the very few times i felt that
I can't wait to see what they say about the exposition in the next episode
Kaiser if this is act 3 it makes total sense for the Japanese five act style of storytelling.
Cui and Dui are just too adorable not to keep around. I wish they could be Pan’s sidekicks when Pan hopefully takes over the main character role (because Pan in Super Hero was perfect and precious).
31:00 “I sure hope someone picks up that phone”

So, the intro song got the Wheetus - Jackie Chan / Punk Ass Bitch treatment. That is fun trivia, thanks
One thing I've loved so far is that, by and large, the sensible serious adult in the room isn't Piccolo, it's Shin. And he's a sweetheart, mostly, so he's not going to be the one to go "hey real quick just go SSJ and waste this threat, guys."
Goku falling for 3 hours was a fun time too
Your hair is beautiful, Nick!
13 finally lives up to the theme song's lyrics "DAIMA WONDER LAAAANDDD"
Goku is falling for about 150 seconds. On Earth for a person free falling in a belly down position, terminal velocity is about 120 mph. Ignoring acceleration time that gives Goku a fall distance of 26,400 feet. For comparison passenger jet plane cruising altitude is 35,000-42,000 feet. Considering he’s falling from a hole in the top of the sky, being that high seems entirely reasonable!
They got the eye in the easiest way possible.
Zedd isnt an american artist but german btw
Everyone that has a problem with episode 13 is just cause they are watching week to week. Once its all out and you can binge, no one will be bothered by it, its a great episode
The above / below / sub par part by Lani makes me want a golf episode of Dragon Ball.
Surprised this came out this early.
Yeah that really shocked me to be honest
I think ppl forget how much of the goku black arc is spent chilling at capsule corp while bulma fixes the time machine (and I think lani mentioned before how extra he found it they went to the future and back like 3 times). or the fact it takes 20 eps into the universe survival arc for the tournament of power to actually start. a lot of ppl also just skipped over the first 2 arcs of super bc they saw the movies already. some ppl--not a lot, but some--even skipped the u6 arc bc it was covered in the manga first and they doubted the anime would do it better. it's rlly no wonder it feels like ppl forget half of super exists lol
personally I found goku falling hilarious b/c nobody there cared except for panzy, since everyone else knew he'd be fine.
Goku was the Loki falling for 30 minutes scene LOL
I have been called upon to comment on Lani's hair, and I shall answer forthwith! As a being who bears long hair himself, I do this day commend one Lanipator for his most luscious of locks!
14:09 Cell vs Cell 🔥🔥🔥
VICTORY FOR VEGETA!!!
They mentioned that they believe that the witch lady got the dragon ball to prevent it from falling into goku hands
Yep yep. And yes the Eye is in it... no more spoilers though :3
And next episode is titled Degesu. And I am so for it.
Goku was falling the Sora at the start of every KH game.
@@saphcal Fusion bug? perhaps?
@@saphcal what ? Kami is Dragon clan and picolo fused with him
@@kurosakikun96U6 probably evolved differently.
It was impossible for me to see Goku and the others fight that giant kid and not think of Shadow Of The Colossus, or God Of War.
degesu did suggest that mabe arinsu is protecting the dragon ball for them, though goma expressed his doubts.
still weird that they dont confront arinsu tho
The design of the beta force reminded me of the kangaroo mutants from Tink Girl for some reason 24:32
30:13 kaiser why are u like this
The eye on the belt looks like the symbol on the chestplate at 32:07. It is definitely it.
As someone who’s been watching One Piece, I can handle mildly inconsistent sizes for characters lol
I prefer Ep 14 over Ep 13 due to it progressing the plot. I'd prefer not to stop everything in order to have a side plot happen toward the 2nd half of the series.
I agree with Kaiser. Goku falling did take way too long.
Well, in terms of episode 13, it did come right after Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta, so a cool down episode felt right
Lani your mane is majestic and anyone who says otherwise is just clearly jealous
