- Medvedev's year so far has been an interesting one, with his loss at the Olympics and a title drought stretching over a year. In this deep dive, I analyze the Russian's unique playing style, recent struggles, and potential for future success. From his unorthodox techniques to his mental game, we'll explore what makes Medvedev such a formidable opponent despite his recent setbacks. Can Medvedev regain his top form during the upcoming hardcourt season? And how do you think his unconventional style will fare against the rising stars like Alcaraz and Sinner in the coming years?

Medvedev is essential for tennis. He can beat Nole, Alcaraz and Sinner and disrupt their paths to victory. Without him tennis would get so boring , because only Sinner and Alcaraz would win the titles.
(Sorry to the Sasha fans, but I'm disappointed.)
No need to say sorry to Sasha fans, Sasha should say sorry himself. The tennis world will always remember Medevedev for stopping Djokovic's path to ultimate glory of calendar slams.
Yes to Djokovic and Sinner no to Alcaraz. Zverev is more of a problem to him
@@warrenmiller2044 kinda true, but Meddy is a problem solver (USO 2023)
@@anseinueseima408sasha played apart in that too
@@ggsjamalnoon1267 yeah you are right
Medvedev is such a fun player to watch. Doesn’t have the same ceiling as players like the big three, Alcaraz, or Sinner but he has the tools to beat anyone on tour. Hope he wins another slam or two before he retires
Same ceiling? Maybe you're new to tennis but peak Medvedev surely had a higher ceiling than Sinner.
Meddy is the reason I watch tennis. My favorite player and person. I can continue forever, but that statement says everything.
13:14 I disagree, he does not give _one of the best interviews from any tennis player_ , he is the GOAT in this department, and I don't think this is just for tennis. People say that Roddick was also great, but most of the time they just have in memory the famous press conference he did AO 2007 after being dismantled by Federer 6-4 6-0 6-2 despite coming into the tournament saying that the gap between him and Federer was closing. Medvedev has a dozen of great conferences, and he isn't just funny or sarcastic or entertaining. He gives great insights, he goes into tactical aspects of the game, talks about his feelings in a very intelligent manner. I obviously don't know all athletes from all sports, but I think it is unlikely that anyone has been anywhere near his level.
Agreed. I love his honesty; whatever the situation the guy speaks his mind, and is articulate in a way rare among athletes. A truly special player who shows that there’s many ways to be gifted.
Fun fact is he reached 4 grandslam semifinals including 2 finals out of last 5 grand finals. I think it is just like Murray not able to beat the big 3 . But a very underrated player
Must be one of the most underrated players in the circuit. He’s been written off so many times and he keeps proving everyone wrong.
Also worth mentioning: his net game has improved a lot this year. His drop volleys in the AO final were fantastic. When he gets his serve back, those hard courts better watch out because the Slim Reaper is on his way...
I have to say I think Medvedev has been and might just be the man outside the big 1/2/3 etc. This means just being good enough to occasionally take a win from the big few but not consistent enough to beat them consistently
For example when Djokovic had his dominant 2021 season, Medvedev won the 2021 US Open in straight sets denying him of the calendar slam.
When Alcaraz and Djokovic had their dominant 2022 seasons, Medvedev was there beating Djokovic at Dubai snapping his 20+ match winning streak and beating Alcaraz at the US open, literally spoiling the show.
2024 has been mostly Sinner and Alcaraz's year so far and Medvedev spoiled the show again by upending the hoped for semifinal match between Sinner and Alcaraz.
Medvedev is just good enough to hit a few wins against the big few, but not good enough to win consistently.
I really hope I am wrong and Daniil and will pull off a miracle 2011 Djokovic season because I am a big fan, but I have to be realistic. He could very well go without a title in 2024.
So basically the new Andy Murray?
@@Bowl849 Kinda, yeah. I doubt Medvedev will never win another slam but with those 2 I'm starting to think he'll win maybe 3 max
Medvedev winning a slam 😂 not in a million years
@@JackSchneider-r7x he already has, beating Djokovic in 3 straight sets
@@JackSchneider-r7x Tell me you don't know anything about tennis without telling me you don't know anything about tennis 🙄
One of the reasons he has not won more tournaments is the amount of abuse he has had to take from people at the stands. That is why he didnt win AO 22 and almost didnt win USO 21, where he showed he could beat Djokovic+the world at the massive Arthur Ashe stadium. If there was an episode "It's time we talk about players abused by people at the stands and the media" his name would certainly pop up.
First, I love your channel thank you so much. Medvedev is so good for the sport. Not just is slightly unconventional game (the octopus) but his post match interviews are first rate - his analysis, his humour, his candour. I really love listening to him. I also noticed at Wimbledon his net play was much much better. He’s had a really good run on a surface he says he doesn’t like. He will make an excellent coach and commentator I think. He seems a great guy. I think he’s got at least a couple of slam titles in him, as others have said he can disrupt- wishing him all the best
Hey, Nice video. Pls make a playlist on your all "it's time we talk about".
Done
@@Courtside_Tennis Thanks I am a Big fan of Meddy and really excited for the summer swing. Media always count him out.
Zverev? Did he make one on Zverev yet?
@@astrahcat1212yes
Medvedev is surely gonna win another slam. If there's one player other than Djoker that can take on Sinner and Alcaraz head to head in best of 5 it's him.
Also coming to grand slam final loses, I don't think anyone can do anything when Nadal and Novak start playing their games. And the last loss to Sinner if it weren't for his back to back 5 setters in qf and sf things could have been very different for him. It was quite evident in that final that he was tired out.
Medvedev is unlucky to be trapped between the big 3 era and the Alcaraz/Sinner era
yes, he is the Andy Murray of this generation. A player who would have also won lot more, had he been part of a different era.
Yeah if he played before Federer in 2000 for example@@FahimHoq
I hope Meddy gets another slam. I like him. I dont think he’s that much of a headcase anymore too, tho he’ll make fun of the crowd if you boo him haha (same way Novak does)
He’s very unlucky. Started his career in the big three era and now he’s in the alcaraz and sinner era
We all have to feel sorry for Ruud, Tsitsipas, Danioil and Zverevo because they have been struggling with the big three for years and now they have to face Alcaraz and Sinner.
Welp at least Medvedev was able to win a slam and be world number 1 for a while. The other 3 were more unlucky being so close to world number 1 and almost winning a slam too.
Not unlucky, they just aren't good enough for the full two weeks 😊@ryanchen951
Unlucky? #weakera. They don’t have consistency to last 2 weeks and they can lose to anyone any day. Not one of them in their last 10 years of turning pro managed to get good on grass or clay. Thats how weak they are.
Only Medvedev has the mental strength to actually win slams, the rest will just choke under pressure
On almost each era there were great players they aren't unlucky just not good enough
Can we talk about Musetti next? Dude is on fire lately
Medvedev is the one, the only one who draw my attention to watch tennis. Off the court, I believed He's a real good & geniune person
He’s definitely one of the most interesting personalities off the court.😅
He is fantastic player..I personally feel he has not been the same since 2022AO open final..he should win 1 or2 majors on Hard court
For me the words that best describe Medvedev are resilience and tenacity. At the beginning of his career, Medvedev was certainly not the most promising of his generation. The predestined seemed to be others, like Tsitsipas or Zverev. And yet, despite an unorthodox technique and an equally "alternative" physicality, he is the one who reached number one in the ranking and the grand slam title, managing among all the so-called "next gen" to best realize his potential. This for me is one of the greatest qualities a person can have, regardless of what their job is.
As a person I would define him as quite an enigma that embodies extremely different aspects of personality: cheekiness that often borders on rudeness and impulsiveness on the court, kindness and tranquility outside the court, an ability to be funny even without wanting to, all accompanied by a sharp intelligence
I don't know if it's understood that I really like him 😂
I think he is a gift for tennis and I wish him the best for his future career.
Go Medvedev
Perfectly stated! He's easy to cheer for
Exactly… thousands of junior players need to learn from meddy more than big 3. Big 3 have the talent… many people believed in them… meanwhile meddy, he’s always been written off and even treated terribly in uso and ao and can still prevail…
Daniil is my favorite interviewee and character in the entire tennis tour. He is really smart and has incredible insights and overall a really interesting charismatic person. Although I have been a Big 3 fan(All equally), Daniil is my favorite in terms of his persona.
i see daniil winning an atp 1000 title or maybe the us open the courtside tennis curse has been activated
😂😂
He said it best himself...."I'm a hard court specialist". And has even admitted that he hates playing on clay and that it's for losers!! Hahha
Luckily he’s warmed up to clay and has been solid on grass as well.😅
"And that it's for losers" - exactly what a bitter loser would say. Under the guise of a joke he stated his opinion
He’s like the spice of the tennis world. He can mess up dream matches and troll everyone
Well said😂
Heartbreaking Losses..
AO Vs Rafael & Jannik..
In Short Next Slam Final..
Needs A Win..
Or by His Early ( 30's ) may become Old News..
Daniil is a top guy ♥️
Not anymore.
Thanks for the video. I'm first and foremost a Sinner's fan, but I'll cheer for Daniil in the next tournaments (even the US open), for he needs to regain confidence. I don't understand those who doesn't like his style of playing: it's only different, and therefore special. His personality is special too.
I think Danil’s intellect is his greatest asset, and agree that he will enjoy a career longevity in the top ten that will continue to set him apart. He certainly is the odd duck on tour, but I’m always here for it. I love how unorthodox his style is (goes to show there’s more than one that’s viable!), how tactically astute he is throughout the entire course of tough matches, and how humble and honest his personality is. One of the most charismatic players on the tour, for mine; Danil is authentic, a strange prototype never intended for mass production! Tennis needs guys like Meddie for all those awkward, tall skinny guys coming up to look to!
Very well-said! Indeed, a strange and special prototype not intended for mass production! 😊
Hi bro. Excellent video. Would you be able to make a video on the rise of Musseti pls. ❤❤❤❤
Preciate you! I’ll look into that. Was impressed with his win over Zverev at the Olympics.
I said the same thing! He's killing it lately
"He often stayed up all night playing Playstation games"
I like Daniil a lot, but sometimes he loses focus in certain ATP tournaments. The mental aspect plays a huge role in his performance. I hope he can become a multiple Grand Slam winner in the future.
At the end of the day he is a grand slam winner with beating the GOAT in the final
True. No one will ever forget that!
Thank you!!! Your videos are so interesting and I’m glad that you decided to talk about Meddy. He is one of my favourite players. I hope he will win more slam/slams in the future ❤️
Medvedev's dip in form isn't a dip in form. Ok some of it is mental after losing the AO final after he was exhausted. It took Sinner nearly 3 sets to figure out Med's adapted approach (more aggressive) and Sinner was only able to beat him after Med was no longer able to keep up given that he played what 10 hours more? Most tennis in a grand slam for a singles player EVER. However his main issue is his serve which isn't the same as it was. Why? Because he had a shoulder injury which unfortunately still persists. Reality is he's still nr5 despite having a bad serve and if he got that back he'd be unplayable. Also - he doesn't do well on clay but has a clay masters.
I think if Daniil fixed his serve he'd also gain back the confidence he may be missing after AO. However easier said than done. I think he's outgrown his coach (he's outgrown him after the USO 21 win) and needs someone who has slam winning experience (like Agassi) or a big server (Ivanovic) who changed a top player's serve before like he did with Novak.
he is currently the one I'd pick for 3rd spot in new BigTHree after Jannik and Carlos, though he is much older and more expierienced
He deserves a 2nd and 3rd slam, by far the best player of the 90s
The handsome man speaks (regardless of audio quality) and i hit like, simple as hat
I started to watch tennis more and more because of Daniil. He is so different to other players on court and off the court so it’s really hard to not like him
It's his worst year from 2017, his debut on tour.
Was watching ur this new video and simultaneously watch Novak turn the 2nd set from 4-0 down and knee trouble to winning 7-6 and straight in 2 sets semi finals of Olympics... Michael Phelps and Novak Djokovic need to be studied by scientists.. this is not normal bro😅😅
He may not be the best, but he is a genius.
U gotta make a vid on djoko winning the olympic gold
Working on it.😅
@@Courtside_Tennis Looking forward to it. 👏 Kind regards from Serbia! 🔴🔵⚪
He was just a few points from beating Sinner in AO. 2024 would be very different if he won the AO instead of SInner
I agree. He was a monster in the first two-and-half sets. Just couldn’t get over the line unfortunately.
I always love Daniil on and off court. He's very charismatic and funny. As you say he speaks unfiltered all the time which is very respectable. Some players talk bad about him but he never respond them. As Nole says He's a true champion.
Medvedev probably has the highest IQ among the current top ten. His EQ is wanting though...
Even if Medvedev wins this year’s U.S. and next year’s AUS y’all will still doubt him.
You make a great point about him being too deep. This is one reason I think Federer would have actually been a good matchup with Alcaraz, because he wouldnt back up against serves, actually trying to take them as early as possible. It wouldve been a complete precision fiesta, youd see crazy angles and chip shots everywhere. This is what Medvedev lacks. His play style always seemed rather clunky.
From the indifference in the beginning, he's grown to be one of my favourite players. At 28 he's still improving and I would be surprised if he doesn't win at least one more GS title. He's such original and intelligent player. You are right that technically he's far from perfect but he's fun to watch, and many find great appeal in his unorthodox forehand strokes and movement. It's pity that he didn't win this year's Australian Open because he played really well.
I also like his wit and honesty in his interviews.
The only thing I dislike is his extreme rudeness even those occur rarely. I can't believe that he said all those nasty things to Eva, as she is one of the best and most honest and fair arbiters in the sport.
He's one of my favorite players to watch
After Rafa, Meddy is my fav ❤. I hope he’ll win more slams in the future.
Bro need a video from u covering this nole Olympics run ❤❤ he beat Nadal, alcaraz, tsitipas, musetti all clay court experts without dropping a set in any round on the way to Gold 🥇 just GOAT stuff.. so happy so proud m chuffed.. this has been a dry year in terms of slams.this changes everything ❤
His embarrassing loss to Fokina is hopefully not a show and tell for the rest of the hard court season.
why do i see this video after he lost to sinner 😂
I can sense your love for Meddy from this video! As a Meddy fan I think what he lacks of is his own trust that he can beat alcaraz and sinner. Evne though he did, it seems that he believes this is an occasional thing. (when asked if he can beat alcaraz, he said he needs to be 120%) but you wouldn't hear alcaraz and sinner said things like that. Medvedev also mentioned that he noticed how short it was when he's ranked no.1. I hope he can see himself as the king one day.
“His father can talk every point!” 😂 all jokes aside I love Meddy, his wittiness and his ability to grind and consistently make semi final/finals is awesome. And a threat for Sinner and Alcaraz as well!
Similar to others, meddy is the reason i watched tennis again. As a former junior tennis player that was OK (itf ranked 1000s), i relate to meddy. I am sure the other players, commentators, other parents, other coaches and even his federation underestimated him. Probably, people have been writing him off his whole life. But again and again, we see that he proved them wrong. Even to this date.
I felt like big 3 and carlos and jannik had it much easier. They have the talent. Meanwhile Meddy’s talent is mediocre (some would say poor techniques) but he prevails… He’s a true underdog story.

Let’s be honest.
Meddy is a great player and an amazing stand-up guy.
But he became #1 because of Djokovic’s exclusion from AO and the cancellation of Wimbledon in ‘20.
Its quite simple why he works so hard to beat many players in the top 30 - his (choice of game) is a one trick pony - stay back and hit away
Not enough against players like Sinner or Alceraz who hit better from back court , or alceraz & Djokovic who have way more variety especially around the net .
He can volley and play the net - as shown rather shockingly against sinner in the 24 AO final
So why has it taken him 29 yrs to show he can do more ?
Impossible to improve on anything here - a platinum analysis, Noah. As a player, I concur with the theory that injury to the shoulder is the culprit in his serve problems. The tiniest issue there, if persistent, reduces serve effectiveness tremendously.
And I agree too that his mental versatility offsets a form that is undeniably unattractive (in conventional terms). Daniil is witty, intelligent and has a big soul.
Bruh, don't mix Sinner and Alcaraz matches. Daniil lost 5 in a row against Jannik (until he beat him once again) and only 2 (now 3 including the Wimby semi) in a row against Alcaraz (after Daniil beat him in the 2023 USO).
let's see him on upcoming hardcourd swing, he is going to bust some nuts
also he improved his wimb to semi this year.
he is not clayer we all know
Great video as always!
Netvedev
Please do Shelton and tiafoe it’s time we talk about those 2 fr
Did on Shelton and Tiafoe a couple of months ago. 😅
Medvedev will win more
Do u think u could talk about Holger rune he has lost it
May I ask where you got the graph of return shot quality, please?
I think the best of Medvedev is in the past….i never saw the same med that played toe to toe in many wars against djokovic and against Nadal and others….. after that australian open loss he was never the same
He probably my favorite player on tour lol . Seriously.
Looking very handsome Mr. host with that haircut
Thanks for a great video and for having faith in Meddy! Let’s hope Meddy is able to address his shoulder and any physical problems and start collecting trophies agajn, cos he deserves it😊
I'm really looking to see Medvedev make the US Open Finals this year. Right now he is in the QF and faced with Sinner. Hard match, but if he can win it, I believe the rest are free game for him. LETS GO MEDDYWEDDY!
It’s over😔
Daniel , well he is perhaps to be described ( IMO ) as the best public park player to come after Bobby Riggs. Because his strokes are so unorthodox & unappealing, he is extremely difficult to anticipate pace & direction. Like Riggs, he is difficult to anticipate any rhythm or pattern in offensive or defensive. Yes, his super flat serve is lacking in pace & disguise from his earlier self. However, no one on the tour is more competitive nor adept at producing the “ junk ball” that has little or no pace and is hit deep in the corners. Physically he is deceptively fit and possesses a high degree of endurance & resilience that is unwavering. I’m sure most players on the tour would concur a match with Daniil requires one to pack a lunch, will be a long afternoon & draining challenge ending in an ice bath 🛁 & couch! 😅
Love this channel. Another great upload
Please do a video on Novak
GUYS, where can i watch tenis online ideally for free but i would appreciate any feedback, thanks.

Great channel
He needs better coaching and discipline
I love Daniil after Novak and before Sinner. He is a very intelligent man
Can you make a video about Baez?
Beautiful thumbnails!
Thanks!
He berdych/tsonga player. Makes most quarter-finals and gets the occasional big win.
He had his first child... All the top guys, after they had their first kid, went thru a slump
Hi bro. Excellent video! Plz could you make a video of the rise of FAA?
I don't like him because of his characteristic characteristics, but because of his character to deviate from the norm and to stay true to yourself...
Rafa rompió a Medvedev
He said Russian
@0:29
Don’t like him so glad he’s dropped off, wouldn’t be surprised if he knew a thing about EPO
I dont like Med and i dont believe he is anything special for tennis. His moves look bad on court and a bad character. He will try anything(like a couple of other players) to disrupt the opponent`s concetration, pick up fights with umpires, the public, complain about almost everything etc. I wont miss him at all...
his 28 got a fair few more years in him and if players can’t handle them mind games that’s on them it seems to work against certain people plus he has a win in a slam which a lot of others in this day and age don’t have cause they couldn’t get past the big 3 and now can’t get past the young bloods coming up
he will not win another slams. this guy is terrible at the final
Hmmm. Is he actually terrible or the opponents are just too good?
I don't like him or his playstyle. If I play against him I'm gonna play ruthless
And then lose 0-6
Interesting 😅
alcaraz in the chat
Daniil Medvedev the most undeserving #1 of all time. Love his wonky game and personality though
Undeserving? Hmmm 🤔
Well yeah he was only #1 literally cuz of Djoko's covid situation
