The latter is unpleasant, but I don't worry for the player (I just don't like them). With Rublev as many have said, I always love him, but fear for his health.
Kyrgios had exactly the same background as Rublev - amazing junior results, huge expectations, prodigious pressure, terrible perfectionism and anger at himself for even losing a single point that he should have won. Depression and injury. The media destroyed him as they are not destroying Rublev. Kyrgios is also known as one of the kindest and gentlest people around off court. The ATP used him over and over until he was 26 because he wouldn't say no and they exhausted him.
Consiidering the Grand Slam tournaments all threatened Osaka with disqualification for trying to avoid press conferences to avoid anxiety you get a pretty good idea of how much tennis cares about its players. Even after Serena's meltdown against Osaka in her first US Open win you saw her talking to reporters shortly afterwards. Banned for three months after arguing with an umpire at Shanghai. Fined $110,000 for smashing racquets and calling Fergus a 't...' when given a time violation. Taken to the cleaners for underarm serves. Called a clown for tweeners. Kyrgios is obviously very concerned that the same does not happen to Rublev and has offered to fly from anywhere in the world to talk to him. The ATP must not do to Rublev and Rune what it did to Kyrgios and Tomic. You have never shown any care for him in your videos. Yet every reason behind Rublev's issues is present in Kyrgios's life. Except colour. And being Australian.
This is a great video really bringing justice to the champion Andrey is. It's tough to see him drowing since the Dubai Incident. I pray for him to get better quickly. He's a great guy who deserves all the love.
I'm a psychologist and your insights were pretty good. That exact moment when he's "undercover" struck me aswell. It seems all around he's struggling to be somebody who is equally loveable by both himself as others. On court he sets an immense bar (but who doesn't; they're professionals). The fact is that his behavior gets him in trouble sometimes. From my point of view he could benefit from changing his core beliefs about himself/others (cognitive therapy). Identify those and at least he knows what he's dealing with: the ghosts of his past. He is already succesfull in tennis, but somehow I get the feeling he'd rather has a succesfull character.
Of course he does, but he has to do it while being in the spotlights and under the near constant pressure of having to win games, which probably makes it a lot more challenging.
Not to say his childhood was perfect (we don’t know), but he is from quite wealthy family. There’s a mistake in the video when speaking about beating children. Rublev didn’t say it. He said that it’s the Soviet style of growing big champions by cruel, aggressive and intimidating training, but he didn’t talk about himself and definitely didn’t say anything about beating. There’s some truth in his words, you can look up how Russian coaches (gymnastics, ice scating, volleyball) destroy sportsmen, but he is top-10 in world tennis, he is a $ millionaire, maybe it worth it?
I was looking forward to this video so much, thank you so much, it was awesome. My suggestion for next time would definitely be Berrettini 🔨! Can he come back to the same form as before ? Can he reach another slam final and perhaps win one ? Lots of things I wonder about him :)
I love that man, full spectrum human!!! I started typing this before the match, just got back and he won from Alcaraz! 🙂 GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO RUBYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY this man is a diamond 🙂
Great video. He needs to control his temper, and behavior on the court, and focus on his game otherwise he keeps beating himself up for not performing his best. He also needs to meditate daily to control his temper. I predict he will win in the finals! I believe in him and he can do it. Cheering you on Andrey from San Francisco USA!♥
It’s trauma, it’s learnt behaviour, especially if while he was a child …as he said himself, was beat, intimidated etc. unless he performed, so now instead …as an adult, he’s doing this to him, he does it to himself. He needs serious therapy to rewire his brain on the mental side. He is definitely talented and skilled, if he can get over his mental trauma from when he was younger, works on improving the skills he already has, he will be a serious threat to top 5 seeded players. He DEFINITELY has another level in him!!
His brute force approach is his biggest problem. He needs to change his rhythm occasionally (slice, dropshots, different shot trajectories) and close the net more effectively. Wow he is only 26? Definitely some more time to grow for him.
I play and watch tenis for a long time now...In the early days my favourite player was Goran Ivanisevic and now its Rublev...😂 both very emotional players
My favorite moment I always look back to is his win over Roger… it’s one of those matches where he looked so composed and his style was fluid. Hope to see that version of him again
Love it when you said being a fan we can have a lot more empathy & be a bit less judgmental. I bet he must have received many advises/suggestions on how to improve his technical & mental game but as you said unless he's ready to help himself ... also it takes time to change. Break my heart to see his self-sabotaging behavior on-court, especially when he seems such a nice and adorable guy off the court.
Great video. Rublev is also a metalhead, which I appreciate too! I don't know if he is working closely with a sports psychologist, but he really needs it. CBT or other therapies could help him manage his emotions much better, and channel his frustration better.
He's got trauma from an abusive childhood. Trauma causes emotion dysregulation (among many other things.) Trauma therapy and getting away from abusive people is necessary.
Regardless of potential or accomplishments it is obvious that he needs help. I can understand disappointment and he's not the only one but the intensity of his self rage is not normal. Anyone that cares for him should hope he gets help.
Good video Tough Rublev since dubai incident 3rd round IW 2nd round Miami 2nd round Monte Carlo 2nd Round barcelona Back in form in madrid with a QF and counting
it's really frustrating seeing Rublev like this, but hopefully his 2 wins in Madrid so far can get him back on track. Also can you please so a deep dive on Humbert
Rublev CANNOT beat someone like Alcaraz, Sinner or Ruud on clay right now. He really needs a Dimitrov, Khachanov or Struff to slay the favorites for him in order to have any chance to win the tournament. He overstresses thinking he could win by just hitting harder against those types of players. That's why guys like Ruud are so chill in defeat, they know their limitations, and just go home and work harder on them. Andrey doesn't do that, he really thinks playing the same way ALWAYS will suffice to win championships and that his mental breakdowns are the ONLY thing holding him back. It is a limitation, yes, but his tennis is his biggest limitation, the moment he recognizes that he will be more at ease with himself.
@@rodrigoodonsalcedocisneros9266 I agree that Rublev is very unlikely to win Madrid, and I agree that that having Ruud's mentality would undoubtedly make him a better player capable of improvement. However I don't think he believes that his mental breakdowns are what are keeping from winning big, otherwise surely he would spend way more time on the mental side of things instead of training. I think he's just too impatient with himself, so he'll dwell on every mistakes he makes like bad calls or not converting a break point. The outbursts are just a result of this impatience.
@@LeBrontoGlazer Yup, I'm glad he proved me wrong. I did see some slight improvement. He varied the angles and pace and he maintained his focus and temper (mostly). He was relentless in that 3rd set. If he always played like that he would definitely have a chance to eventually win some Slam, but I still don't see him as someone who can stop Djokovic, Alcaraz, Sinner or even Medvedev on a regular basis. Hope he keeps improving though, he has the potential to be a Wawrinka...maybe.
Great stuff - as always! Rublev, Rune, FAA, (Tsitipas, Fritz): Get mental coaches! Get mental coaches! Get mental coaches! You will lose to lesser players again and again and end up hating the game you were born to play. And we don't want that!
Rublev accomplished a lot with the "few tools" that he has. I think he has the biggest upside of all of the players in the top 10. If he gets in mental and physical shape and works on the areas mentioned. Make no mistake that is a big list to have to improve.
And again we have to talk about him since he just won Madrid Masters. Talk about impeccable timing lol. Congrats to him but to Felix as well. He surprised me more than once this week, kicked Ruud out, he was going to beat Mensik anyway and today he lost by such a small margin.
My buddy and I were talking about how he probably needs a break and go touch some grass. He obviously has a dark cloud over his head. Maybe a short hiatus in which he finds joy in something outside of tennis is what he needs. I mean, the man barely had an offseason.
9:30 It was a joke, mate, simple as, don't make something out of it. He definitely needs some help in the mental area, I think he has the talent to break off that QF curse. Once he does that, he'll calm down a bit. He just gets angry way too easily. Medvedev also gets angry but Rublev just bursts even at 40-0 if he loses a point. Limited or not, he's beaten Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, not something many players can brag about. He is capable of better but at the moment there are many highly competitive players on tour.
Imagine having to play without your flag, without your country name on the board, without your country name anywhere. Imagine being compelled to play pretending you’ve nothing to do with your homeland, just because ATP demands so. These are players, not soldiers. I would be angry and certainly so are Rublev, Medvedev and other Russian players. This shame must end. The Russian flag next to the Russian players names must come back.
I saw him against Cilic in his first pro year in Genebra, when he lost after having a match ball. The forehand was mind blowing! People were sometimes laughing nervously after some winners, as nobody saw such a powerful stroke. He certainly could use more drop shots with the forehand, as his adversaries are always far back the baseline when he hits a forehand, similar to Alcaraz.
read Agassi’s memoir to get a start on how intense it is mentally to play this style & live w/ this pressure week in & week out ~ & rublev has to win without AA’s talent, just grinding…
He needs to learn to HAVE FUN on the court. Those who enjoy themselves on the court are more likely to be creative and add variety, and make improvement to their game.
Rublev is a passionate and superb player who gives 100 percent to his game. His lack of self-restraint does get in the way of his performance but he is seldom if ever disrespectful to his opponents or the audience. He’s often a crowd favourite. His disqualification at Dubai was incredibly unfair considering the passes other players have received for far worse offences. One only has to go back to the 2021 Vienna Open semifinal between Sinner and Tiafoe. I have never in all my years watching the sport witnessed such disrespectful and appalling behaviour. Tiafoe should have been thrown out of the tournament immediately. Yet the clucks at ATP could only cheer him on, quacking and honking in delight like a cadre of manic fowl. The problem with ATP is that they either have double standards or no standards at all.
@@imalwaysrightyes he was disrespectful to the ump. As are many players when they react angrily to what they believe are unfair calls. When they cross a line they should be penalized appropriately. If you read my comment carefully, you will note that I said Rublev was not intentionally disrespectful to his opponents or the audience. What happened in Austria was malicious behaviour towards an opponent and a continual series of antics intended to disrupt the match when his opponent had momentum. Not to mention he jumped a barrier and hopped onto the seats of fully masked and distanced spectators during Covid and sat on their laps dripping in sweat. It was appalling and unacceptable behaviour from the beginning to end of the semifinal match and carried over to the final, which he lost and quite frankly didn’t deserve to be in.
Rublev's fine. It's time we talk about the whacked ATP tour schedule and how players are getting frequent injuries. Also, please talk about ATP and WTA's policy of mandatory tournaments -- imposing penalties on top players if they don't play the Masters 1000. It's becoming problematic. Rybakina just talked about it in her presser. Tsitsipas talked about it last year when he was playing with injury.
Take this as a mental health awareness for men. Poor boy. His mother seems horrible - no mother should talk about unaliving a child even as a joke. Hes been hittin himself since he was a kid. He needs some serious help and therapy. Hes going on a destructive warpath on himself and its painful for tennis fans to watch
I couldn't get why a lot of tennis fans value the so-called "stoic" so much in tennis more than in other sports, we are all humans and humans have emotions. Ofc some players are very stoic and seldom express their emotions, but we should be seeing them as a "rare occurrence." c'mon man if you didn't do well on a test or work even if you spend a lot of time or money, will you be happy about it and just say nvm?
3:34 is this just me or there's an error in the ranking of % 2nd serve point won? it's not properly classified. Also according to this table statistics, I don't know if the 52 week average table is correct either...
Rublev has definitely had moments of self destruction in those 0-10 QF. The Tiafoe match he was coming apart at the seems and was so volatile I just viewed that as a huge missed opportunity. He also had a QF vs Novak in AO where he absolutely no belief but played a solid QF vs Novak in Wimbledon the same year. I definitely think after a slight regression in consistency in 2024 this is a good opportunity to tweak the team or at least accommodate a mental coach who can keep him more stable on court.
He's got trauma from an abusive childhood. Trauma causes emotion dysregulation (among many other things.) Trauma therapy and getting away from abusive people is necessary.

There’s some truth in his words, you can look up how Russian coaches (gymnastics, ice scating, volleyball) destroy sportsmen, but he is top-10 in world tennis, he is a $ millionaire, maybe it worth it?
@@fakepussy his family was not wealthy, his parents worked non stop to support him and his sister's tennis training and expenses.
I love him
He'd be praised for his temper just like John McEnroe if he was American.
Tom, there’s people that are dying.
That’s just an anti-American comment. People liked McEnroe because he won. Personally I disliked his outbursts.
Him beating Carlos just now really shows you how hard it is to predict this stuff. Its a tough sport, lots of good players lots of pressure
🙂 GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO RUBYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY this man is a diamond 🙂
exactly....i love that....full expectrum man
Lo amo

johnjohnson is lying, the comment wasn’t edited
He just won a masters 1000
Good job. Really nice video. Bravo and "no war please".
Love this format! Keep creating videos like that! ❤
Very beautiful approach to his outbursts.
His brute force approach is his biggest problem. He needs to change his rhythm occasionally (slice, dropshots, different shot trajectories) and close the net more effectively. Wow he is only 26? Definitely some more time to grow for him.
Yeah, I mean...the guy risks every ball and gets mad when he misses? It doesn't make any sense.
Well documented and overall an excellent appraisal of the issues A. Rublev is currently facing...
HE IS FIRE SOMETIME HE BACKFIRE
Good video
Tough Rublev since dubai incident
3rd round IW
2nd round Miami
2nd round Monte Carlo
2nd Round barcelona
Back in form in madrid with a QF and counting
this youtube channel should be named "It's Time We Talk About: ..."
yes, and They don't know a shit about what they're talking about
gianni achilles yeah its cringe
it's really frustrating seeing Rublev like this, but hopefully his 2 wins in Madrid so far can get him back on track.
@@rodrigoodonsalcedocisneros9266 looks like he can beat Alcaraz (a slightly injured Alcaraz that is) on clay right now, I couldn't believe it either.
Lol this didn’t age well. At risk at doing the same thing though, I doubt he’ll get past the semi finals (although I hope he does)
He looked like an actual zombie in the US Open last year. Have never seen a player look so unhealthy.
Great stuff - as always!
Rublev, Rune, FAA, (Tsitipas, Fritz): Get mental coaches! Get mental coaches! Get mental coaches! You will lose to lesser players again and again and end up hating the game you were born to play. And we don't want that!
One more match, I'm cheering for him!
Rublev accomplished a lot with the "few tools" that he has. I think he has the biggest upside of all of the players in the top 10. If he gets in mental and physical shape and works on the areas mentioned. Make no mistake that is a big list to have to improve.
Omg your at University of Cincinnati! Those r some of my favorite courts to play on and feel so clean all the time!
We love you RUBLEV❤
No we don’t
@@aca2077 then don’t
My favourite player
It's so strange to hear Rúblev, when his surname is actually pronounced Rublyóv
I love his tennis ❤
And again we have to talk about him since he just won Madrid Masters. Talk about impeccable timing lol. Congrats to him but to Felix as well. He surprised me more than once this week, kicked Ruud out, he was going to beat Mensik anyway and today he lost by such a small margin.
he is the nicest guy on tour
he did soo well in madrid, but do any of you have an idea on why he went downhill again in wimbledon?
My buddy and I were talking about how he probably needs a break and go touch some grass.
He obviously has a dark cloud over his head. Maybe a short hiatus in which he finds joy in something outside of tennis is what he needs. I mean, the man barely had an offseason.
"...he probably needs a break and go touch some grass."
I agree, he needs a Bong Hit Transplant.
You mean he should smoke some weed?
7:49 He really looked so down in Hamburg. Dead in the eyes, plastic smile... Yeah he really looked badly depressed. 😢😢😢😢
Who's here after Rublev blew out Alcaraz's back in Madrid?
Now number 7!! I guess he is not doing that bad!!
Lovely story 👏
Video on your thoughts about Alex Bublik pls
As soon as you started talking about him, he starting winning again (Madrid). You can archive the video now.
Que se desahogue le ara bien 👍 es un buen chico ❤
Climbing up umpire chairs and yelling in the face of sideline umpires is hardly “not disrespectful”
It's pretty funny because now he's in the Madrid final😂
Feels a bit like Murray. We all loved him, nice guy and funny, but his mind always seemed to get the best on the court.
But Murray was a functional huffy dude, similar to Djokovic or McEnroe. Rublev's tantrums actually detract from his tennis during matches.
They said "tell us how to make it, cause were getting really impatient", then i looked them in the eye, and said:
"You dont wanna be high like me..."
He is good-looking indeed 😢
French Open 2024, he has a big chance
Rublev has definitely had moments of self destruction in those 0-10 QF. The Tiafoe match he was coming apart at the seems and was so volatile I just viewed that as a huge missed opportunity. He also had a QF vs Novak in AO where he absolutely no belief but played a solid QF vs Novak in Wimbledon the same year. I definitely think after a slight regression in consistency in 2024 this is a good opportunity to tweak the team or at least accommodate a mental coach who can keep him more stable on court.
He's got trauma from an abusive childhood. Trauma causes emotion dysregulation (among many other things.) Trauma therapy and getting away from abusive people is necessary.
this has nothing to do with the video but i was caught off guard with the university of cincy tennis court in the bg bc i’m an incoming senior there😂 i didn’t know you’re from cincy!
Vamos Ruby, vamos ❤❤❤❤❤

He saw this video and proceeded to put himself in a masters 1000 final LOL
Please Please Zverev ❤
Might as well wait until his court appearance next month. His multiple assault allegations are extremely serious and I wouldn't trust TH-cam tennis commentators to be empathetic or nuanced with a video with such gravity, especially when legal proceedings are pending
6:14 This was the weak point against Shelton also yesterday in Basel I think.
Rublev took this to heart and smacked Alcaraz
Looks like it
Rublev is a very sensitive and emotional guy. His father is a boxing coach.
Could you do random deep dives on wta since 2000 players like wozniazcki halep Pavlyuchenkova Stephens keys ostapenko putintseva dementieva myskina Zvonareva Radwanska jankovic gorges bertens date krumm
Well he is Madrid Champion so I think he is figuring some things out
Very tired of Kyrios commenting about bad behavior.
just the first 4 words are sufficient
The clip was selected so that you would have this negative reaction. this video maker has an armful of clips which use Kyrgios to make a point but neglect to put in the rest of the extract which includes his enormous concern for Rublev and his offer to do anything to help so that he doesn't end up self-harming and self-hating like he did as a result of media and fan scrutiny.
Could you do one on Humbert?
Wow! Today I made a comment on another video asking you to make this one. What a coincidence!
Law of attraction I hope you mentioned the fact that he’s never gotten into a grand slam semifinal. That’s like a mental hurdle that he has an overcome and that’s a big one because all his other buddies all his other Russian buddies having he was the leader of the pack for a while.
Lovely chap great player but excepts too much from himself relax take it as it comes win or lose just a game 🎉
