The first ex-GF (Olga Sharypova) who accused Zverev of domestic violence gave a detailed account that was corroborated by several witnesses AND she never sought to get any money nor did she want Zverev prosecuted. She just wanted her story to be told about how he treated her and the negative effects it had on her life. So when a second ex-GF tells the same story, it certainly isn't a good look for Zverev, especially when you see how menacing he has acted to officials on the tennis court. It will look even worse if a 3rd woman comes forward claiming domestic abuse. At a minimum, Zverev has a serious anger management problem which he should address and overcome.
Off-court controversies aside, I think him and Tsitsipas need real coaches, family is not always a good thing in tennis, they sometimes can actually be detrimental. Other than that, I do have a lot of sympathy for his generation. All talented players but who had the misfortune to be contemporaries with the best players in history, Djokovic, Nadal, Federer and Murray. And after all that, when those guys are either retiring or dropping their level, they get the likes of Alcaraz and Sinner. I am a Medvedev fan but I've always wanted to see the 3 of them and Rublev (I know, I know, cue the QF curse comments incoming) win many Slams but at this stage it doesn't look good for them. Zverev and Medvedev need to get bolder, Tsitsipas doesn't seem like he cares much and Rublev needs some mental help.
Tsitispas and Zverev have the same Achilles heel. Both are shackled to their fathers, unable to divorce themselves. The motif of killing one’s father is not merely Oedipal but a deep part of individuation.

Federer and Roddick have been won Masters 1000 titles without being broken. Federer in Cincinatti 2015 I believe is the most recent. It's definitely happened before
First video of yours I’ve seen, and it is very good. Just subscribed. As a player, I think very highly of Sasha. I think he’s one of the best players in the world and has the potential to get to #1 every now and then if he starts winning slams, which in my view, if he can get over all of the times he’s come so close, but lose, he inevitably will eventually. As a human being, I disliked him long before I knew about the spousal/girlfriend abuse accusations because I saw him lose it to such an extent at umpires and others at these events. I have a feeling that the diabetes contributes to this too, because there’s no question it can impact your mood if your blood sugar is too high or too low. But at the end of the day, that still doesn’t excuse it. So, overall, regardless of what happened with the abuse case, I don’t like him much. But I do respect his game.
It’s fun to watch him play and he hits missiles on his serves and stokes, watching him in Miami vs dimitrov but it was mental, third favorite to watch, behind dimitrov and sinner.

Great vid. I would really like to see a deep analysis on Medvedev, how he was on the high in 2023 vs trophy-less 2024 (so far). I find him fascinating, and yet very human
I mean, 2023 was a weird year for him in the sense that he collected most of his points during the first half of the season, while it's usually otherwise. Thoughout most of Medvedev's career he's had a mediocre first half of the year and an amazing second half, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see that again this year.
Ultimately, anyone in his position will be subject to scrutiny, as are the remainder of the top players in both tours. Everyone is different, and I remember something that Andy Roddick said in an interview: imagine having a bad day at work, and cameras being there. His behaviour on court is at times indefensible, but not unheard of and isn’t anything we haven’t seen with other players, and can be interpreted as him showing his passion. I respect him as a consistently high level tennis player, and for what he has to deal with on a medical level. However, I feel uncomfortable supporting him because of these allegations. That isn’t me disbelieving the justice system, just from a morality standpoint for me that I can’t cheer for anyone with even a faint question mark around something like domestic violence, especially when it’s come from two women separately. I respect him for what he’s done on the court, but at a distance.
Totally needs to grow beyond his father. Watching him sometimes feels like watching a junior match. The constant appeals to his stand. He's not alone, of course. A trend I wish would end.

He seemingly wasnt far off in the RG final, but Alcaraz is just more clutch and a better finisher. I also thought his volleys were often weak and Carlos punished him. The thing with players like Carlos, Rafa, Nole etc is they find an extra gear to win. I feel Zverev, and indeed Sinner atm, kind of lack that atm.
On the note about winning tournaments without being broken, I think Fed did so at Cinci in 2012 and maybe a few more M1000s, but on clay that's titanic
Gotta say, it's alarming how tennis fans use the situation to make cheap jokes about abuse (any reference with hitting, choking, ...). And it's alarming that so few people value the principal of innocent until proven guilty. That's like one of the most fundamental backbones of a society. Imagine ruining someones life for a cheap joke on the off-chance that you are wrong. Also, so many people got the "dropping the case/settlement" part wrong. Zverev didn't settle in the sense that he paid Patea money (she didn't get any). Patea wanted the charges dropped after day 3 of trials after evidence against her was brought up, to keep face. It's normal in Germany that the one initiating the trial (Zverev) has to pay some money to the court to compensate the public for not having a verdict. All charges are dropped, including the initial penal order, meaning he's officially innocent and can't be prosecuted for this alleged crime ever again. I'm all for believing alleged victims when they first come out, but when it turns out there's nothing to their story, you should refrain from calling people abuser. And no, smahsing your racket doesn't make you an abuser. It's mad how people jump to that conclusion.

As a player, he's great, but chokes in slams. As a person, you gotta admire his doggedness (pro athlete with diabetes, coming back from career threatening injuries, etc.), but he definitely has demons.

The biggest issue for me throughout the whole ordeal is that Zverev has not once condemned DV in any way. He could certainly have maintained his claim of innocence while also denouncing abuse and treating it as a serious issue.
@@chuckfriebe843 Condemning domestic violence isn't turning someone into a politician or asking them to be one - it's about having a moral obligation to speak up against any kind of violence. Sasha is an athlete people and kids look up to for his success, mental toughness (questionable), and inspiration he gives off the court (incredibly questionable).
He hang dogged the match away with Alcaraz at the French. No fire, no killer instinct. And you are right about his front running ability. It's terrible. I was such a fan and very proud of his recovery after the fall against Rafa. But after watching the match against Alcaraz in the final of the French, I have changed my tune and my being a fan again is in great jeopardy.
I think that's a fair treatment of his legal case. Appreciate you looking at all the sides of the issue. I'm no Zverev fan (don't like his game or his attitude), but he is definitely innocent until proven guilty. Suspending a player for mere allegations sets a very bad precedent.
@@JameSongMaker That's not how it works. The spokesperson said that we don't know what happend. But: Patea withdrew all charges after day 3 of trials because evidence against her was brought up. With this, all allegations against Zverev, including the penal order that started the trial, are annihilated. He can't ever again be prosecuted for this alleged crime, and thus being presumed innocent and should be treated as such.

The case was dropped by the prosecution due to a lack of evidence and Zverev had to pay court costs since he was the one who decided to go to trial to clear his name. The woman got no money and Zverev's been determined to be not guilty. No court will declare innocence and we have a system of being innocent until proven guilty so he's effectively innocent.

Zverev's problems are purely mental. Blaming the holes or lack of evolution in his game would make sense if he was already winning slams and got 'figured out' or if he stopped winning titles outside slams for the same reason. Well it is only up to him, goodluck to him tho. He was great to watch in the early 2020s.
Why would that only make sense if he already started winning slams and got figured out? If you're never even winning slams in the first place wouldn't that be better evidence that the holes in his game are at fault? There are many players who are incapable of winning a slam (or even becoming a top 5 player) because they have holes in their game, just look at Rublev. Sinner is also a good example, because he used to be very similar to Rublev, but now that he has evolved his game and fixed the holes he's the best player in the world.

Osaka sticks to the baseline and overpowers opponents. even at her best mentally she will not do well on clay and grass she would need to change her game.

I remember people stating that he did it to avoid the verdict and so it would keep Olya and their son out of the spotlight. First of all Domestic abuse is a serious case and if he was found guilty he should have been held accountable for it both by the ATP and by the general public 2. His ex girlfriend stated from the get go that she didn’t want to take all of his money or even have him convicted of anything, just wanted to make sure that she was heard. Ofc you can argue why it was even taken to court in the first place but I think the answer to that would be to prove that she actually had evidence and she wasn’t just trying to ruin his life. That makes sense why it was settled out of court anyway instead of waiting for a verdict. Oh and I also started that he was simply fined 200,000 euros, I didn’t even state whom too because I wasn’t exactly sure.

Wrong! He was supposed to pay a fine and appealed the decision and chose to go to trial. In the court of law, the plaintiff dropped the case because they couldn't produce evidence to convict him. The case was dropped because of that. He paid court fees.

He's innocent in the sense that he's not convicted and in fact can't ever again be trialed for this alleged offense, so he is assumed innocent and should be treated as such.
The presumption of innocence is one of the most basic principles by which modern society operates. A person is innocent until proven otherwise, I am truly surprised how few people understand this. And I tend to trust the German judicial system

While you did try to explain the German court system it is a fact that if the case is dropped and you didn’t receive an official sentence stating you are guilty or you admitted to it then you are officially innocent. Saying that he is not officially innocent may even result in charges against as it would be a case of so called bad speech which is indeed punishable in Germany. So yeah Sasha is indeed officially innocent. The settlement payments are his cause he went to court und settled with the opposition during the trial. If they agreed that it’s his to take then it is what is, but it won’t change the fact that he is officially innocent!
Olga's allegations (which are corroborated by multiple witnesses) are extremely damning. For me, it's impossible to support someone on court who is a monster behind the scenes.

Since 2000, only three players have won their first major after age 26, Ivanisevic (29), Wrawinka (28), and Thiem (27). And it's gotten increasingly younger. I think his time has past, he should have won the French two years ago at 25 but fate dealt him a bad hand.

I just don't like Zverev's game. As you said, he's passive and doesn't take risks; he's a glorified pusher. But my main critique is this: Alexander Zverev is one of the most boring players on tour. I avoid his matches because his style makes his opponents boring, too. I literally can't remember a match involving Zverev that was interesting. He's a black hole for inspiration. (I'm going to skip over the domestic abuse allegations because I have almost no faith in western legal system to justly address this issue. Rich men routinely escape consequences.)

I have been saying this since that us open 2020 but for me zverev will never win a slam ! I found the allegations extremely credible and I think he’s a menace. His arrogance is grotesque. The fact he said he never wanted to hear about the charges again because he’d been exonerated in Berlin when he hadn’t been, at all, sort of suggests he’s hoping no one will do a deep dive into the German legal system which is what I was hoping this video would be. Sporting bodies need to police the behaviour of star athletes and tennis has failed spectacularly in this regard.

The first problem is that we are talking about whether or not he can win a slam, and therefore the only matches that truly matter are the slam ones as they are the best of 5 sets. The first ex-GF (Olga Sharypova) who accused Zverev of domestic violence gave a detailed account that was corroborated by several witnesses AND she never sought to get any money nor did she want Zverev prosecuted. She just wanted her story to be told about how he treated her and the negative effects it had on her life. So when a second ex-GF tells the same story, it certainly isn't a good look for Zverev, especially when you see how menacing he has acted to officials on the tennis court. It will look even worse if a 3rd woman comes forward claiming domestic abuse. At a minimum, Zverev has a serious anger management problem which he should address and overcome.

Off-court controversies aside, I think him and Tsitsipas need real coaches, family is not always a good thing in tennis, they sometimes can actually be detrimental. Other than that, I do have a lot of sympathy for his generation. All talented players but who had the misfortune to be contemporaries with the best players in history, Djokovic, Nadal, Federer and Murray. And after all that, when those guys are either retiring or dropping their level, they get the likes of Alcaraz and Sinner. I am a Medvedev fan but I've always wanted to see the 3 of them and Rublev (I know, I know, cue the QF curse comments incoming) win many Slams but at this stage it doesn't look good for them. Zverev and Medvedev need to get bolder, Tsitsipas doesn't seem like he cares much and Rublev needs some mental help.

First video of yours I’ve seen, and it is very good. Just subscribed. As a player, I think very highly of Sasha. I think he’s one of the best players in the world and has the potential to get to #1 every now and then if he starts winning slams, which in my view, if he can get over all of the times he’s come so close, but lose, he inevitably will eventually. As a human being, I disliked him long before I knew about the spousal/girlfriend abuse accusations because I saw him lose it to such an extent at umpires and others at these events. I have a feeling that the diabetes contributes to this too, because there’s no question it can impact your mood if your blood sugar is too high or too low. But at the end of the day, that still doesn’t excuse it. So, overall, regardless of what happened with the abuse case, I don’t like him much. But I do respect his game.
It’s fun to watch him play and he hits missiles on his serves and stokes, watching him in Miami vs dimitrov but it was mental, third favorite to watch, behind dimitrov and sinner.

I mean, 2023 was a weird year for him in the sense that he collected most of his points during the first half of the season, while it's usually otherwise. Thoughout most of Medvedev's career he's had a mediocre first half of the year and an amazing second half, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see that again this year.

Ultimately, anyone in his position will be subject to scrutiny, as are the remainder of the top players in both tours. Everyone is different, and I remember something that Andy Roddick said in an interview: imagine having a bad day at work, and cameras being there. His behaviour on court is at times indefensible, but not unheard of and isn’t anything we haven’t seen with other players, and can be interpreted as him showing his passion. I respect him as a consistently high level tennis player, and for what he has to deal with on a medical level. However, I feel uncomfortable supporting him because of these allegations. That isn’t me disbelieving the justice system, just from a morality standpoint for me that I can’t cheer for anyone with even a faint question mark around something like domestic violence, especially when it’s come from two women separately. I respect him for what he’s done on the court, but at a distance.

The thing with players like Carlos, Rafa, Nole etc is they find an extra gear to win. I feel Zverev, and indeed Sinner atm, kind of lack that atm.

Gotta say, it's alarming how tennis fans use the situation to make cheap jokes about abuse (any reference with hitting, choking, ...). And it's alarming that so few people value the principal of innocent until proven guilty. That's like one of the most fundamental backbones of a society. Imagine ruining someones life for a cheap joke on the off-chance that you are wrong. Also, so many people got the "dropping the case/settlement" part wrong. Zverev didn't settle in the sense that he paid Patea money (she didn't get any). Patea wanted the charges dropped after day 3 of trials after evidence against her was brought up, to keep face. It's normal in Germany that the one initiating the trial (Zverev) has to pay some money to the court to compensate the public for not having a verdict. All charges are dropped, including the initial penal order, meaning he's officially innocent and can't be prosecuted for this alleged crime ever again. I'm all for believing alleged victims when they first come out, but when it turns out there's nothing to their story, you should refrain from calling people abuser. And no, smahsing your racket doesn't make you an abuser. It's mad how people jump to that conclusion.

The biggest issue for me throughout the whole ordeal is that Zverev has not once condemned DV in any way. He could certainly have maintained his claim of innocence while also denouncing abuse and treating it as a serious issue.

I was such a fan and very proud of his recovery after the fall against Rafa. But after watching the match against Alcaraz in the final of the French, I have changed my tune and my being a fan again is in great jeopardy.

With this, all allegations against Zverev, including the penal order that started the trial, are annihilated. He can't ever again be prosecuted for this alleged crime, and thus being presumed innocent and should be treated as such.

The case was dropped by the prosecution due to a lack of evidence and Zverev had to pay court costs since he was the one who decided to go to trial to clear his name. The woman got no money and Zverev's been determined to be not guilty. No court will declare innocence and we have a system of being innocent until proven guilty so he's effectively innocent.

Blaming the holes or lack of evolution in his game would make sense if he was already winning slams and got 'figured out' or if he stopped winning titles outside slams for the same reason. There are many players who are incapable of winning a slam (or even becoming a top 5 player) because they have holes in their game, just look at Rublev.
Sinner is also a good example, because he used to be very similar to Rublev, but now that he has evolved his game and fixed the holes he's the best player in the world.

Ofc you can argue why it was even taken to court in the first place but I think the answer to that would be to prove that she actually had evidence and she wasn’t just trying to ruin his life. That makes sense why it was settled out of court anyway instead of waiting for a verdict.

Wrong! He was supposed to pay a fine and appealed the decision and chose to go to trial. In the court of law, the plaintiff dropped the case because they couldn't produce evidence to convict him. The case was dropped because of that. He paid court fees.

The presumption of innocence is one of the most basic principles by which modern society operates. A person is innocent until proven otherwise, I am truly surprised how few people understand this. And I tend to trust the German judicial system

I just don't like Zverev's game. As you said, he's passive and doesn't take risks; he's a glorified pusher. But my main critique is this: Alexander Zverev is one of the most boring players on tour. I avoid his matches because his style makes his opponents boring, too. I literally can't remember a match involving Zverev that was interesting. He's a black hole for inspiration.

I know as explained in this very good video that he has improved a lot ( serve especially ) but under huge pressure he always fails to win ! he doesnt have that killer instinct ! like he is too passive when he is stress and never never wins those tight matches in late stages of slams!

I found the allegations extremely credible and I think he’s a menace. His arrogance is grotesque. The fact he said he never wanted to hear about the charges again because he’d been exonerated in Berlin when he hadn’t been, at all, sort of suggests he’s hoping no one will do a deep dive into the German legal system which is what I was hoping this video would be. Sporting bodies need to police the behaviour of star athletes and tennis has failed spectacularly in this regard.

I see 2 finals, US Open 2020 where he threw away a 2-0 set lead to Dominic Thiem (let me guess, it was the because of a bad call by the umpire excuse). And as we know he lost to Alcaraz at the French Open being up 2 sets to 1. So that would be why, as I go by his results in the slams as we are talking about whether he can win a slam. It really doesn't matter how he does in the other tournaments that are all out of 3 sets. But if we do look at the results you put down for this year, I have to say that I love the excuses about it being a very tough draw, or my absolute favorite was very cold conditions (as if no one else was affected by these conditions. And yes this years results have been quite good, but far from exceptional. But again, when making a prediction on whether or not he can win a slam title, the only tournaments that matter are in fact the slam tournaments

The first problem is that we are talking about whether or not he can win a slam, and therefore the only matches that truly matter are the slam ones as they are the best of 5 sets. Even if we were to look at this years results they are very good but they aren't exceptional. I think the real funny thing are your excuses stating that it was a very tough draw, but my favorite excuse was where you listed very cold conditions. Um isn't the opponent also dealing with this very cold condition, or is Zverev wearing an ice pack during the match. In the end, one just needs to look at his record in the slams. Though admirable that he's made multiple SF's, going by results and the fact that he folds under pressure, I honestly don't think he'll ever win a slam. Doesn't mean I'm right, we won't know that until he retires, but I don't see it happening
