It's very funny how Sheriff Adams was such a strict, no-nonsense, "Gimme an excuse to lock your ass up Mr. Kent" type lady and Camille ends up being so lovely and full of light. It really speaks to her ability as an actor.
She was no nonsense, but I still trusted her more than the last police chief, different energy.

@@jsbrads1 Eh he helped the Kent’s out sometimes, even when he had to arrest clark or Jonathan he was respectful about it. For me Camille left a terrible first impression and just kind screwed around for the rest of her time.

Fun fact! This is the first episode of Smallville I ever saw! I was 8 years old asking my dad what he was watching. He said it’s a show about Superman as a kid! I saw the scene where Clark speeds around Brendan and I was hooked ever since. So even though you guys think this episode is bad, it fits Tom’s criteria for a good episode since this was my first exposure 😂

Great story!!!! I'm guessing you have watched the entire series at this point. Did you stick with the show then? Just wondering if you enjoyed season 5 more than I did. Of course, there's a great many years between us and different ages have different tastes, but I wonder if season 5 was better when you didn't have the first 4 seasons in your book already.

As a Superman fan, I loved freak of the week. Even though the show is about Clark. As a Superman fan, you're waiting for Superman to fight villains. And thats what freak of the week was. Low-key Superman fighting villains. I guess you would have to be a long-time Superman fan to get it

Yeah, some of the freaks were premium, and some of them were less than... That's to be expected, if we're having 24 episodes a year, they aren't all going to be winners. But they had a lot of good ones. 1/3rd of episodes were good. That's good enough.

SMALLVILLE FOREVER! After a whole season of Roses, congratulations to Tom for the first bomb ever! Nice to hear Tom’s first starting Shout-Outs for Season Four and for the very first time in the studio! Cap-Less Tom is always a REAL Treat!
Yay! The Sheriff aka Camille Mitchell! Great to hear about how much she enjoyed her time on the show and stories about how she left the series.
“Forever” is less freezing and more like “The House Of Wax”, and the emotional depth of this episode is overlooked.

Lately, they've been completely overlooking the emotional depth of the episodes and fixating on a less than realistic plot point (it's based on a comic book - How realistic can it be?) or whatever plot point they weren't paying attention to and missed rather than attempting to actually watch the show, much less try to understand why this show means so much to so many people. Rosenbaum is the worst. He's incapable of separating his experience watching the show from the personal resentment he harbors toward the things and people that made him want to leave. It's made me want to stop watching entirely. I've already gone to reading comments to see how bad it is before deciding whether or not to watch the podcast. I don't want my favorite show ruined by the actors who played the leads.
Wow, I was not expecting her to be this friendly and charismatic. I am amazed with the job she did as the Sherriff now.
This episode makes me so mad for Chloe cos being kidnapped for this plot line means she missed out on her last day of high school, she didn't get the final edition of the torch out! Absolutely robbed!!
Does Bryce do the video edits? Whoever does the edits, they are on the money with the little video clips added into the conversations at the end discussing the show 💣’s 🤣🤣
She is one of my favorite characters on Smallville. I wish she had more screentime because she was always absolutely fantastic!
Commencement/Arrival is the best cliffhanger/resolution imo and I can’t wait for the discussion!
Usually I watch Commencement to Hidden all at once. It's a 3 hour block that could have been a Superboy movie.

Some random little details that I appreciate about this episode:
*During the opening, I love the camerawork when Chloe comes out of the torch and it catches her from above, and just the way it follows her through the hallway - I thought that was cool. Also the shot at the very end when it shows them walking together from behind and far away; that's not a shot we see often, and I enjoyed it.
*The actress who plays the admin lady handing out cap/gowns - I thought it was funny how, in both the episodes she's in, her main lines include yelling, "Chloe Sullivan!" (her other episode was "Spirit" where she announced homecoming queen).
*At the end when Chloe runs up to walk with Clark & Lana, and she grabs Clark's arm. It's just very 'high school' feeling, and it was a nice touch because I feel like we don't often get to see them just act like normal teenagers.
Guys don't forget to do a mega episode for the 2 year anniversary of the Talkville.

The Lex and Lionel stuff was better than the main story in this episode. Michael and John really were doing some hard core acting and the suspense was fantastic.

I think this episode came out around the same time as the remake of the House of Wax movie. I think that was the freak of the week power.
I love how Brice is like the voice of Jorel.
Now I'm imagining how much funnier this podcast would be if Bryce just chimed in doing the Jor-el voice every other episode 😄
@32:00 Glad Camille Mitchell mentioned this a lot of actors don't return for their death scene especially if it was sprung up them, meaning no build to their death like Sheriff Adams which came out of nowhere. A good example is Margo Kidder she didn't return to shot her death scene, so writers just stated that she was dead lol. They even filmed a foot of someone lol and told us it was her character.

This is one of my favorite episodes, particularly for its last scene. I first watched it as I was drawing near to the end of high school. I had a close circle of friends and felt a similar strong sense of anxiety about the future, the potential loss of close friendships, and a desire to hold on to whatever good things that had been formed over the past several years. I knew/dreaded I would never quite relive or experience anything like my high school years ever again. The conversation between Chloe, Clark, and Lana at the end in conjunction with the song Around the Way struck my heart.
I guess I was somewhere in the middle at the end of high school, a little sad but not too sad. But the last scene DEFINITELY stood out as being well done and capturing the vibe. Helps that it was serious and personal unlike the very clunky random FOTW metaphor of the main story haha.
Can i just say Michael and Tom really haven't aged that much. I think Tom and Michael still look like they are in their 30s and should do a Smallville one off movie. Tom as Superman officially would be so amazing to see and Michael as President Lex. Such a wonderful idea
Well, they are doing a Smallville continuation. Not sure what format it is, though.
I feel like we got to get James Marshall on the show. I feel like it would be therapeutic for Michael to vent his long pent up frustrations…. And both entertaining and hysterical for us 😂
Season 5 really is the best one. It's when the stakes really feel real, and Clark out of high school, him growing up towards his destiny. Definitely the best. Season 6 was a GREAT follow up to season 5
3 was the best one.
I’m nearly 50 and tbh my high school was one of the best years of my life. I’d love to go back in time.

Jen T was wonderful! Loved her perspective and analysis of Forever. It just goes to show how as fans, we all like/dislike different parts of an episode to others and as Jen said.... that is ok. That is why we are fans so we can talk to each other about what endears an episode to us. Some do not like an episode, while some do. For example, when Jen said Static was her fave episode, I laughed to myself because it is not one of my faves, but I think it is wonderful and shows what awesome balance Smallville fans have. I LOVE hearing why people love/hate an episode it gets me thinking. I'm the eternal Smallville fan that loves all things Smallville and yes, Forever was not a fave of mine, BUT I can pick out the silver lining in some scenes. I remember on my first watch marvelling at how positively evil Jason and Genevieve had become and then Jason was shot...by Lionel!! That was pretty big action in itself. (I agree, Lionel shot Jason so he would not reveal info that he did not want Lex to know). I still chuckle to myself about the amount of time, effort and $$ that it would have taken to recreate the high school right down to the sticky notes and articles on the wall. Hilarious! To me, it is all part of the fun of Smallville and I'm not going to dwell on it, because as Jen said, there were other things going on that were worth appreciating.

Based on the way Jensen is dressed in this episode. When Jensen is chasing Michael in the woods. It looks like Dean is hunting down a demon in Supernatural.
I suspected you guys would not like this episode. As opposed to last week's episode, which I liked, this one has always been one of my least favorite ones. Tom made me laugh when he said he kept looking at the clock every five minutes or so. I give this episode 1 bomb. My last and maybe only other bomb was the episode "Lucy".
I can already tell you that, even though I like Season 4, the season finale could have been better. Several things go unexplained. However, I really like seasons 5 and 6.

I loved hearing her stories, especially the circumstances of Sheriff Adams' death. I wish they kept her around longer. 🙁
But she did have one of the most badass lines before her death: "Ain't that a mother...".

@@passionsquietrage 2.5 years later and as an AU character. Which was cool on their part because it was the 150th episode. Still though, the character could have stayed around a bit longer. Especially with the show losing more and more of its light tone.

I always questioned the problem of clark studying far away given he can just super speed to the farm anytime 😅
Yeah didn't he go to Florida for smoothies that one time with Bart Allen? He could go to college in New York and still come home to fix fences in the afternoon, come on Kents!

I'm so thankful that Camille came on to Talkville. I smiled from ear to ear. I've watched the seasons multiple times over the years but this time around, thanks to you guys, I found a new appreciation for her and her character. Absolutely love her and love Mr Ryons impression of her as well him mentioning her when she is missed
This episode was a reminder they are supposed to be school kids.. Good to see Sheriff Adams. She has one of the best last lines on the show ever!
To me, the highlight of the episode was the scene at the end where Clark and pals are leaving the school behind and discussing the "big question mark" hanging out there. It truly felt like the end of an era, even if it was only the penultimate episode of the season. (Also, it made me nostalgic for my own high school years when I first watched the episode in 2006/2007 on ABCFamily.)

OMG I LOVE this special fan-guest! she brought such a great perspective. . I really appreciate her story of how she got into Smallville ❤ cuz it was VERY similar for me! I waited for similar reasons and watched it for 1st time last August I think it took like 6 or 7 weeks for me to binge it cuz i just couldn't stop!

@VideosandMemories-qi4mq yes! and i think it's helpful for Michael to hear it cuz he keeps trying to find a fan who doesn't like the show the way he doesn't, and this is different than when he goes to cons and inundated w thousands of pple he probably feels they aren't gonna be honest and share criticism but this one on one he can see that we're not mindless fans just loving it for loyalty-sake and that we dissect and deep dive as much as Tom does (lol sometimes more)

@VideosandMemories-qi4mq honestly i didn't give it a chance cuz i had my heart broken one too many times by live action Superman content.
Superman the Movie was extremely special to me growing up, and the exec producers destroyed the last 2 (thanks again DC) and even LNC was great in beginning but the characters totally became like caricatures. ugh and then Superman Returns (don't even get me started! loved the potential, hated that it was basically a Kevin Spacey movie and that's back when we all loved him). . i just didn't wanna take the risk.
funny thing was, a good friend loved it and i would see bits and pieces (and of course keep up cuz of previews, cuz i watched Charmed and
Buffy at the time. same channel) so i probably would have started it but then i figured. .shows get stupid once they hit 6 or 7 seasons. and who knew it was gonna go 10 seasons! and back then there was no streaming.
1st words out of my mouth when I finished was I can't believe i didn't watch this it would have changed my life!
that's why i love that Michael used to say that in S1 of the podcast. lol cuz i was like yes! I get why people say that about Smallville now 😅

Fans have different tastes. Smallville after the first 3 seasons became deeply flawed at times. You think Michael is harsh? Ask the people who stopped watching during seasons 4-7.
You all are hilarious. I was thinking that you need to make a t-shirt that says, "I snuck into the Luther Mansion" and then have Scooby Style image with the kids looking around while Lex is pushing the open door button in a control center while looking at them through a security camera.

So great to see Camille Mitchell on the podcast! What a lovely person she is. Though I have to confess, I'm maybe a teensy disappointed that she didn't greet Tom with a cool "Well hello, Mr. Kent." Though I did get Tom greeting Annette with "Hi, Mom!" all those episodes ago so I'm still happy.
I honestly only started watching smallville for Tom Welling like have you seen him then??? But the show is actually sosooo good and it’s my favorite love this podcast 🫂

the VFX for freezing the kids was a little weird lol like they didn't look "frozen" they looked like they had a milky glue on them that had hardened. but the super-speed FX for Clark saving Lois, and especially catching Lana was freaking awesome! 🤗
and as always, the scenes w Clark and the Kents were so honest and genuine. We really didn't see much of them this season, but every scene they're in together is just gold 👏

I just started watching Blacklist, and John Glover makes an appearance in early season 2. He was a brilliant doctor in a mental institution, and he was amazing. His banter with James Spader was amazing.
I hope to see Clark in the season finale. It is something I had requested a few weeks ago since I think it adds to the show seeing both of you Michael and Tom in the same room. Cannot wait for next Wednesday 🤍
One thing I'd love for you guys to ask Erica about whenever she's on again: There's a Supergirl episode called "Midvale" where she briefly appears as a FBI agent named Noel Neill (itself a Lois Lane reference), but more importantly, for that entire scene I SWEAR she was doing a Sheriff Adams voice. I'd love to know if that was intentional.

I thought Lionel shot Jason to protect Clark from Lex. I feel like ever since they switch bodies back that there was a part of Lionel that really does want to do the right thing, but still has to be a powerful Lionel to make sure Lex is tamed.

Loved seeing Camille, my favorite Sheriff, and hearing her stories regarding her time on the show. Thanks for bringing her on Talkville, guys! Also, Tom without the cap is a bonus. This episode, while not the best, highlighted albeit in an extreme way, the high anxiety some people experience when they are ill prepared or unwilling to deal with change and its uncertainties. The end of High School is a major milestone in every young person's life as they are faced with decisions that dictate the path their lives will take in the future.

First time Tom truly didn't find something Redeeming about an episode I myself never thought I would give an episode of Smallville a bomb !!!Loved seeing my favorite Sherriff 😍
OK, I actually like this episode. I understand the nostalgia for not wanting this period of time to end. I felt the same way with not wanting to see this group of characters leave high school, and I can remember what it was like being nervous about going into the real world after high school.
BTW, the editing has come along very nicely.

I enjoyed this episode! I like Chloe and Lana's scenes together. But otherwise, I can't wait for Season 5, it's one of my favorite seasons! Love you guys from France! ❤

The Smallville House of Wax episode. Generally whenever the writers were struggling with ideas, they reached out to other cinematic franchises to help supplement the shows. The House of Wax remake was also coming out around the same time this episode aired. Given how poorly that movie performed, it probably wasn't a good idea to use that as the basis for an episode.
Hah, and here I was thinking "well even if the story is asinine, at least the evil superpower is offbeat and weird and not from the usual box of tricks". I mean, didn't make the story and GOOD either way, but I was gonna give em at least a point for doing something different...
I remember not liking the new sheriff when I first saw her but then being so angry and sad when they killed her off. Also, even if this episode is a bomb for me, I can relate to the uncertainty and the sadness when high-school is finished.. I myself cried rivers on my last day with all my friends, knowing we won't be all together ever again...

@@Costas22 true that, season 5 almost made me stop watching in the original run.
@@VideosandMemories-qi4mq I got what they were doing up to 5.13 (and even those 13 episodes were far from perfect), but after that the show loses all its momentum, IMO. It doesn't know what to do with its main character's development, it pivots massively towards Lexana and Clark loses his girlfriend and father. Just bleak all around.
Interesting things to note: Chad Krowchuk who played Wendell Johnson also played Glenn Woodburn in Man of Steel and BvS.
I actually really love this episode I think the awesome decapitation is worth a rose on it's own, but I also love the people being frozen but their eyes still move it's so cool, the remake of the school and Chloe and Lana being trapped is another positive

Camille did a great job. I LOVED her character and I was sad when she died in the series. She was awesome in the series.
I agree with the Patreon Genty, as Chloe was looking back at her cleaned out office I had very strong feelings of loss and dread of moving on. I had just closed out my classroom and looking at the room bare I though I was fine but watching the episode linked the feeling I was having with the opportunity to examine them and for that the episode speaks to me, though I could not get out of high school fast enough and I have closed out a lot of classrooms this one feels like a thing I will never do again in quite the same way.

Jen T's journey with the show is very similar to mine. I was 18 when the show aired in 2001 and I didn't have time to watch TV back then. But I had several friends who loved it. Then I discovered Inside of You during covid and really liked Michael. And when he and Tom announced this podcast I decided to finally watch the show.
