very, very special! i was born in 1967 and in the 70s, the bicentennial and all, made the prairie thing very big. my mom made quilts and bonnets and aprons wtc and sold them . i loved my bonnet and hollie hobbie doll and quilt etc. i kept hoping this would all make a comeback. maria is such a special and sweet girl! she will remember what you did for her forever!

Oh my goodness!!!! I’ve not seen anyone pound their steak with a small plate in years!! My mom’s neighbor-over the back fence laden with sweet pea flowers -taught her to use a plate to make chicken fried steaks. I continue this method 60 years later. Yes, I’m older-but thought both my mom and she were really, really old at that time! I imagine myself Maria’s age back then. Anyway, the plate sure works to tenderize even though the meat does look ragged. Thanks for a throwback very fond memory of mama and Judy at the back fence. So glad you’re there sharing with us!

My husband is always amazed at what I can accomplish when I’ve backed myself into a corner and have hours to complete a job that would take a normal person weeks. He’s the exact opposite. He completely shuts down in high pressure situations.

I use to make outfit for my daughter. My daughter 2nd grade was celebrating Thanksgiving. She needed a Indian outfit. I made this cute little outfit and I needed feathers for her head piece. I remembered the flea market had hat bands with feathers. She looked so cute. When I went to pick her up I meet a teacher that was a friend said she liked the outfit. She ask if I knew about the feathered hat band.I was so proud she said it was a roach clip. I had no idea what a roach clip was. I took the feather off her head band. Sometime ignorance is bliss. Lol

that poor plate! LOL You need a meat tenderizer! I love mine for when I make pork schnitzel! I'm surprised the plates over the years have never broken. I have many of the same plates and although they are pretty sturdy they still do break. Meal looks yummy!

I will never forget my 10 year old granddaughter's face when we read the first Little House book in the series and we came to "butchering day" and the children would wait for the pig bladders to be ready to blow up like balloons and play with them! She just was grossed out. Bahahaha! You could jokingly tell Maria that you could get pig bladders to keep in theme! 😂

We make our swiss steak same as you. The only difference we do is instead of adding water to the cast iron to get the bits up we add diced onion and once lightly caramelized we add that to our steak.
