2024 listening in New Zealand fond memories of working for the council in the 80’s in Salford UK with my work mate who loved this song , sadly passed away . Oh happy times
I'm a 52 year old ex sailing instructor. I was at university and bought every deacon blue album back in the day. I have two dignitys. A 1974 woody international fireball and a 25 ft yacht....this band was my early twenties life and wet wet wet. ...I'm English... Scottish music rocked back then.
having a really tough day, serious anxiety and the sun burning on my head, isolated working from home in this pandemic and turned this song on, it made me cry I dont know why but I feel better now. A song I always turn to when down. Thank you Deacon Blue and all the fantastic late 80s meaningful bands who produced such great music
I’m just rediscovering this band again. Just wow. Amazing. There was so much amazing music being made while I was growing up in the 80’s and 90’s we took much of it for granted. Quality
Loved them then, still love them. Im Aussie, saw them in London in 89. Theyre playing in Sydney this Friday. Can't wait. Their new albums are awesome too! Theyve still got it!
Dignity is about the treatment of working class people ( most of us). It is a wonderful song that has stood the test of time. I am and will remain a Deacon Blue fan always. However something doesn't sit right with the lyrics and Ricky Ross in person. Check out John Denny TV on You Tube with people asking for autographs. No eye contact, no engagement, very telling. Compare this on the same channel to Alison Moyet and Leo Sayer who are so kind to the fans, especially Leo Sayer who comes across so well. I thought Ricky Ross would be a nicer person than he appears to be. These clips of fans asking for autographs are quite illuminating.
I met Ricky last month in Hamburg and he came out to the foyer after the concert to meet each and every one of us who came to watch that night as well as sign autographs.
I did not know that the name of the group, devoted to it a lot of time searching. In the head sounded the soloist, melody for 30 years ... I found and am happy!
I actually have a guy who walks up my street, no idea about his circumstances or if his packed lunch is in a sunblest bag, but i chose to run after him and gave some money. He's a lovely guy. It costs anyone nothing to be nice :) xxx
You know, after ten or twenty years no one will even know who Taylor Swift is/was. Yet here we are reliving our youth to Deacon Blue. Thanks for the upload :D
Amen. I saw them live in the 80's and met them afterwards. Still have my signed album. This is possibly the greatest song nobody outside Scotland knows about.
56squadron ..here in Leeds we had Sunblessed bread (hence the bag)..... the lyrics, the songs, the band are world renowned and remembered. NOTE the monthly comments!
I once had the opportunity to see and hear them on Bremen, Germany, in a club called "Modernes". It was just great, the whole crowd was singing the songs, we all had a blast. And it is some 30 years ago and I still get gooesebumps when I remind meself of that concert. A hello mòr gu scotland!
After 30 years of dreaming and 20 of working, next year I will be buying my own twin engine plane. I'm going to call her 'Dignity'. Yes, I saved my money! :)

Best working class record ever!!!
Still sounds as fresh as the day it was released, hasn't dated one bit
It still amazes me that this band never got the international acclaim that they deserved. What a class act!
2023 love this song for ever 💙
I’m 56 now and still love this track as much as i always have ……. Love it

Perfectly crafted song and lyrics. Still an absolute classic after all these years!
Yup, 30 years on & still a great tune !
This is by far my favourite version of this song, I don't feel the "re-record" had the same energy.

Maybe he's just naturally shy and not comfortable in crowds?
Give the man a break.
What a superb song!
Saw them live a number of times - great. This song has some special memories for me.
Me sorprende ésta canción. Está muy buena y fresca 👍
I did not know that the name of the group, devoted to it a lot of time searching. In the head sounded the soloist, melody for 30 years ... I found and am happy!
