I'm 40, and sitting in my rainy garden, in England. This song means a million forgotten memories from a long time ago now, knowing people who I can't remember the names of. I am sure your sister was the same...just making her way, and taking it all in...just like we all do. I have a sister, too. She's 39. My little sister. Emma. You have my love, and wishes. Make her happy, and proud as she watches you...which she is. Do what she shoulda did. X

Ah, Deacon Blue. This was really a 90s song - the last decade before all the angst.
High school of course was the best and worst of times. We were all just kids (real gone) and these songs were the soundtrack of our lives.
I moved on after a difficult adolescence, and went from strength to strength. Model looks, money, opportunities and most importantly a loving family.
I didn't (sadly) get to know many people at school, and lost contact with them all. That said, I hope they are somewhere in the world, and safe and happy - especially the girl who looked like the blonde at 0:26.
    Super cute.
    Peace.

One of the greatest evenings I ever had. That was over 30 years ago. I don't know where those bunch of lads are now. I hope that still alive, married with wonderful kids. And enjoying life.

I literally spent 6 years trying to find this song when I heard the beginning of it on the radio but I had no clue at all except for the first 20 seconds: didn't knew the band, name, lyrics, anything. Then one day I heard just 2 seconds of the first part of the song on the radio and I knew that was the song that I spent so many years looking for and this time I could listen to it completely and get to know all about it. You guys can't imagine how happy I was when I finally found it...

Yes. Deacon Blue are an excellent band and they sound just as good live in concert as they do on record. Their 1989 UK hit single 'Real Gone Kid' (which was written about fellow Scottish singer Maria McKee) is an undisputed 80s classic.
I saw the full original line-up of the band at Newcastle City Hall as part of their 'Walking Back Home Tour' in 1999 and had a terrific night out.
I even got to meet and talk with each band member after the show (including their sorely missed guitarist Graeme Kelling) and I'm glad to say that they were all very approachable. It was a brilliant night that I'll never forget.

I went from 16 years to 26 years old in the 80s and thought I had heard every song from that decade. I mean I listened to EVERYTHING. Rock, Pop, New Wave, Alternative, Country, and R&B. I MEAN EVERYTHING, but somehow I had never heard this song. Then, about 5 or 6 years ago I was watching a movie and there was a scene where the characters went into the kitchen and there was a little clock radio on the counter playing this song. It caught my ear so I rewound the movie 3 or 4 times to listen and couldn't figure out what it was. So, I Shazam'd it and it has been one of my favorite songs ever since. I only wish I had heard it when it came out so I could have attached it to a memory.

CR I have learnt more about my Irish heritage ( The Rosses in the Donegal Gaeltacht) than from any other sources as I was born in Birmingham England in the few years before the Troubles really erupted hence the reason that I was told by my wonderful parents to lose my Irish accent and basically keep my head down to avoid the wrath of the English in Birmingham after the pub bombings where it was pretty dangerous to be known as Irish
I don't think that I had any English friends in the whole of my school days as we were in the inner city of balsall heath and luckily it was an area of west Indians polish and Asians who were in the same boat with the days of
No dogs no blacks and no Irish and my recollection is that we all stuck together
