I'm just going by ear, but Chante, Mariah , and Michelle sound like mezzos. Granted Mariah in her prime had agility of a Soprano, but range has nothing to do with tessitura. Ariana, Leona, in my personal opinion fit the soprano characteristics "vocally". Any female singer who can hit an E6 with such ease is a soprano. And Ariana has been lately hitting those notes repetitively like its nothing.
SimplyMJ In some cases, tessitura has nothing to do with it either. For example, Tori Kelly is a soprano who has more comfort in the mezzo tessitura. 🤷🏽♂️

Michelle just featured on "Ocean Blue" by Papa San, a hot dancehall/gospel track and she's hinted at getting back to working on new music though nothing confirmed ATM. Her new bedding line Believe seems to be her focus but she just reprised her debut Broadway role in Aida at The Muny. Music usually follows theatre with Michelle :)

Don't understand all the hate for Ariana? She's a very good singer, yeah she has problems but if no singer didn't then they might as well stop making music if they have no growth left. The fact that she's even compared to legends and vocalists like this is a big achievement in itself seeing as how she's been doing this less than 4 years, she hasn't even hit her prime yet

Ariana's belts are absolutely amazing and so effortless wow (although I really do wish you had used better clips for ariana because she has much better belts than this 🙄)
Mariah's range: Eb2-Bb5-B7. Leona's range: F2(Times Have Changed)-Bb5(I Got You-2015)-Gb6(Loving You). Overall: Mariah and Leona. Both are flawless and superior. Mariah's range is out of this world and Leona's head voice and falsetto is something no pop star can compete with. Chante comes third, Michelle fourth and Ariana last. Respect to every artist though.

lhybridprosper Actually there is a coloratura is not a vocal fach it is a supporting classification simply just like the "lyric" and "dramatic" and both of them including coloratura can exist with Contraltos/Mezzos/Sopranos.
+TayTay BeyNippy no there isn't hunny, I'm a classical singer that went to college for this stuff, so I know my voice parts very well, s coloratura is defined by their ability to go into and float in an area considered the whistle area. You've been misinformed or miseducated in some way

LambilyBR mariah is a light lyric soprano,not a contralto,she can sing comfortably on the alto range(choir classification) but she's a soprano,and whistle can't be supported ,being this a disconnected register,so her supported range is not that big,sorry my bad english:)

@@slayriah1990 no they really can't. Since the vocal chords do not connect therefore they have trouble projecting, don't keep tonal quality and being placed properly which are the main characteristics of support. Not even falsetto can be supported

Mariah is an Alto with Soprano range. as she even stated herself. had it not been for her mother, her range as a whole would be much shorter. and Michelle to me is ah Lyric Contralto. her voice shines more in the lower and mid section of her range. her belts are not as clean as a soprano.

Mariah Carey isn't a light soprano, she's an alto. That's why she has 5.4 octaves.
Vocal fach doesn't determine one's range or depth of. Michelle and Mariah have gone lower live than many mezzos hitting D3 and below but there's much more to voice classification than range; timbre, weight, tessitura for example. Also 'alto' is a choral part, not a vocal fach. One can "sing" alto but you can't "be" an alto.

+Vocals Lover Since so many Ari fans cried about the last live video, I made sure to include an early (within 5 years of debut) clip and either a very recent one or over 10 years since the singer's debut.
The first set of C5s are all within 2-3 years of each vocalist's debut album/single when they were all approaching or in their early 20s.
