A hard days Trout Fishing with a sweet ending.

- I travelled far upstream to the source of the river Coquet to fly fish for wild brown trout. The fishing wasn't easy but calling into a favourite pool on the way home proved to be well worthwhile.
If you want to catch big trout, you should try when it gets dark at night. Big trout is nocturnal and prefers hunting at night time.🙂

Hey man I thought you had finally got your seatrout but it was just another one of those pesky salmon ! !
Think you would find coming down from a 6 # weight to a 4 # weight a lot of what you think is your clumsyness would disappear mate.
Changing the subject I very tempted to try and make one of your quiches, man you sure make some delicious looking food.👌
Bloody salmon eh? They are like pigeons. I have an old bamboo 4# which is my normal trout rod these days but I am waiting for it to be repaired as I snapped the tip off. I can still be plenty clumsy with that though! Good luck with the quiche if you decide to have a go. It would probably be easier if you blind bake the pastry case before you add the filling.
@@abakerslife Ditch the bamboo haha! Get yourself a " modern " 4# weight - for small/ medium rivers a head length of 8 to 9 metres for easy casting and your golden.
Yes I told our lass that I'm going to try me hand over the winter making some of your recipe's , she'll believe when she sees it. You should be getting more views on your baking talents I reckon. 👍
@@stevenholmes4584 I love the old bamboo stick, it seems to suit me nicely and I can cast it as far as any of my rods.
Good luck with the cooking and baking, best keep it to yourself if you start picking up road kill mind. I am yet to meet a woman to whom that is acceptable!
Another cracking piece of water you have shown us this time,great result in the end eh,can I just mention your nymphs are in back to front in your fly box,usually the hook bend is slid into the slit first,just a little thing I know but I believe that is the way it was designed to be used cheers.
That makes sense. I am lucky to be surrounded by cracking pieces of water. I'm already looking forward to discovering more next year.

Thanks Scott- do you mean the fish at the end? That was definately a grilse but the big fish I was casting a dry at in the slow pool could have been either a brown or a seatrout. I think at the time I assumed it was a pod of seatrout in the pool but on reflection I think they were browns. There were some big fish in amongst them but in the past I have seen 2lb plus brownies in there.
Great video. Have you considered a dry fly on the slower bits ? More stealthy. Ive had fish at that ford on a dry. And with little bankside stuff you could cover them easy. edit - You had a dry on ! Just seen your subtitles.....Fish it on a shorter line slowly creeping forward up the pool. Ive fished that pool from the opposite bank with Klinkhammer type things. Nothing wrong with your angling mate, nothing....
Remember you only see the best bits! I am a bit clumsy with the dry but that's to be expected because I don't practice with them very much. Truth be told dry fly fishing doesn't float my boat the way it does for most anglers.
I think I like nymphing best because the interest for me comes from reading the water and imagining where the fish might be. A salmon on a muddler though...that is something I like the idea of.
Next year I'm going to take a friend of mine up there who can really fish and film him catching some of those beauties.
If you know the water then further downstream in the gorge section under the farmhouse I know that a very big brown resides in a pool that is so shallow you wouldn't think it's possible. I have seen it two or three times and have had a few casts at it with no success but between you and me it is a 6lb+ fish..

I fished that section last year - nothing but a couple of tiddlers. Glad to hear there are some decent fish up that far. I stopped just afer the bridge. Beautiful countryside up there and previously when hiking I've often longed to fish it. Must try again next season.
Canny last ditch fish. I didn't recognise that pool. I really need to explore more of the Coquet next year.

Glad you enjoyed it. The fed have a great variety of water so there is plenty for you to explore. I'm probably going to join the Tyne Angling Syndicate too next year to have an even greater spread of fishing. We are spoiled for choice in the north east when it comes to game rivers.
I just use my gopro hero 9 for all filming. I am not really into photography/filming if truth be told. I like the gopro because the lens is very wide so everything is in focus. It is quite user friendly and as such the filming doesn't get in the way of my enjoyment of a days fishing.
Great video, but which NAAF pool was that where you got the fish please? It looks like the road is v close but I don't recognise it.

Thrum Mill. Some of us may have restricted mobility and it becomes important to find beats and lies that are close to the road (hence my earlier question as I spotted the cars going by in your video). I enjoy your channel but the concept of "secret" stretches of river on Federation Water doesn't make sense to me.

Hi David, I most likely would have given you a straightforward answer had you posed the question privately however I like most other people who post fishing videos I am not inclined to announce publicly whereabouts I catch my fish on TH-cam for obvious reasons. Nonone told me where to find a fish on the Coquet. I actually invested a considerable amount of time and effort to seek out a handful of productive stretches. I am not saying therefore everyone should go through that process but I personally wouldn't ask other anglers where they get fish and certainly not in the public domain. The head bailiff should really be the first point of call for questions about locations on the fed water. I'm not for promoting a culture of secrecy on a very public and heavily fished river but as a working guy with a family and a lot of commitments I often have to make a big effort to get out on the water and I'm sure you'll understand the frustration of turning up at your favourite pool to find 5 cars already there before you.
