How good can Mitchell Hooper be? Can you see this new star taking a WSM title this year?
Even with bad final events he has a good shot.
No one will touch him in the groups.
Mitch 1st...Tom 2nd...and Brian 😕 a disappointing 3rd...that's my prediction 💯 but being an American I hope Brian can get that 5th title 💪
@@bronchoped he should do fine. Let's just hope Brian Shaw, Bobby Thompson, Big Trey, Tom,....the lineup is pretty jacked tbh. Depends on who's in whatever group tbh🤔 might get thrown to the wolves and get thrown in the Stoltman/Shaw hurricane 😑 it would be brutal either way 💯
@Everything Strength matuesz, Evan and novi too..
With those heats events he would easily beat Tom and shaw if they were in his group. That's a fact. The final events aren't nearly as good for him though
Yep, if I had to pick a winner, it would be him.
Certainly not a landslide victory, but he's something else 💪🏼
I love Mitch's mindset! He's very different from what we are used to from athletes in Strongman, and I think it ruffles some feathers or people don't know what to make of him. But he's very smart and the way he looks at things is very intriguing and refreshing. It'll be exciting to see what all he is able to accomplish.
Also as a teacher, yes interpersonal and social skills are huge and sadly very lacking nowadays.
8:15 I justt skipped here and I instantly knew who's he talking about.
Smith is amazing and I hope he improves even further.
I remember watching this guy come into worlds last year and thinking, "Man, he seems over-confident". Even cocky... But man, in his VERY first show at worlds, he blew everyone away as far as expectation! I've been watching him closely in the last year and man... He is a genuine threat to win it all this year! As a fellow Canadian, I am so psyched to watch this year's worlds! Go get it, Mitch!
If Mitch can keep himself healthy, no injuries....I can't imagine him off a podium. And he keeps getting better and working on his weaknesses. He's clearly just having fun, which is also a huge bonus
Hard to argue against log if one event determined the worlds strongest man. A deadlift, a squat a clean and a push press all in one! Good luck Mitch. Interesting interview.
wonderful to see any person who is good and brilliant.
If I had to pick ONE event to decide the worlds strongest man it would be log. Deadlift guys are gonna complain but push and pull are the two biggest deciders of power.
Deadlifts and stones really only test the posterior chain. Hamstrings, glutes, erectors, traps, lats. Maybe a little chest in stones but maybe you’re just long armed like Tom or Thor or Brian and don’t need to crush as hard. Maybe you’re a quad dominant deadlifter but that’s more rare
Still leaving out shoulders, arms, chest for most, quads for most, etc. favors long arms and big hands automatically making athletes without these advantages climb up a huge hill
Log has the deadlift component, it has a core component, you need powerful quads for leg drive and to support the weight in front of your body. Hamstrings pull it off the floor, powerful glutes launch it into the rack position. Your upper back needs to be tight for the clean. Your traps are involved from the second it breaks the floor. Shoulders and arms tested to the max. Even your calves are flexing to keep yourself from digging forward. And anyone who’s cleaned a heavy log and held it in the rack position knows your lower back is fully engaged
The press might favor shorter arms but we see failed cleans REGULARLY when the weight gets extreme. You need more than a good press. It’s more of an all around test of power and seems less favoring than stones or deadlift.
Spot on mate
8:15 Lift Heavy Be Kind
💀💀💀💀
👀 I’ll be ready
Eddie hall. I loved that Eddie set the goal of winning once and then moving on. I love that Mitchell goal is just to get better and pushing himself. That will last a lot longer than wanting to win an event.
I think it was very clear to Eddie for him to win he had to seriously jeopardise his health, plus be somewhat lucky in the events. Eddie didn’t really have a choice about only winning one, his Health wouldn’t allow for a huge legacy
Yes but also as fans we miss out. Most another sports, athletes don’t constantly retire in there prime
@@joeclark2201 most other sports we don’t expect the top athletes to push the boundaries so hard they risk their health
Colin's wordss on truck pull turned out to be prophetic
The mailman joke killed me 😂
A thinker, that Mitch. I like!
MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE What a great guy.
Sometimes it seems like mitch adapts while doing the events, even if it seems like there's bad events for him he, figures it out and still does good
😂omg, Colin asked for that ending for putting him on the spot about stones😂 great interview love the content
Wow...and he just won wsm. I wanted Brian to win...but I'm glad he won to.
Great interview! The guy is amazing, his recovery ability seems inhuman 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
It's the mustache
Wow, Hooper is the man to make Colin Bryce speechless? (squeezing the juice)😂
Very insightful perspective
thank you - Mitch is a fascinating character thats for sure. Very cerebral.
Colin Bryce reminds me of that uncle that you see every Christmas who wears bifocals super low on the bridge of his nose and is always laughing so loud that you can hear him across the house
Anyone who thinks strongmen are meatheads should listen to Mitch. I could listen to him all day, such a genius. My favourite athlete. Lift heavy be kind!
he is very bright indeed
I'll be interesting to see Hoopers mindset after his first strongman injury, the guy is a natural athlete, could always walk away and still be world class in another sport
I think what's different about mitch is that he is patient and will only max out when he needs to, I think also specially when Mitch is expertise on this sort of thing he knows best ways to avoid the big injuries
He's had a serious injury before, so he's dealt with setbacks
I don’t see him walking away to another sport. He’s taller frequently about how his ceiling is just higher in strongman than other sports.
If his injuries become chronic or threaten his quality of life though I could see him retiring from professional sports and focusing on his business and other pursuits while playing a ton of golf to scratch his competitive itch.
What a good Podcast:-) Mitchell sounds very smart:-)) wish him all the best🙂
Stones should stay prominent for good reasons, it challenges multiple muscles and most importantly its historic importance.
Maybe mix things up with different stones like Arnold's did.
Stones of some sort should be in every strongman show 👊💪
The dealift comment is silly as less muscle groups used
This guy is a breath of fresh air,not just in strongman but in a world philosophy.
Couldn't agree more!
Paul Swinton the parkrun man has done a huge amount for public fitness . Hardly anyone has heard of him outside the parkrun family
Final, Colin. No S!
Do they get final events before then because he knows them?
I get the comparison about having less pride than someone with less natural ability who has worked harder to get where they are than you have but did he have to single a guy out and comment on their appearance
The moose is winning wsm2023
Bring gold home Mitch!!!
Hope he stays healthy.
Petition to permanently change Paul's nickname to "the Mailman" 🤣
Because he always delivers!
@@bonniejamie not if it's power stairs.... ;)
Great interview. But I have to say stones are a much better test to win WSM than a deadlift. Yes deadlift is a very great test of max strength. BUT if you can't move with heavy weight what's the point. Save the 3 staple lifts for powerlifting please please please.🙂 Strongman is my favorite sport. It's the only sport I follow and all you guys are great! And the gentle giant help each other out atmosphere I believe will propel this sport because the world is getting fed up with all the division and darkness that's trying to push its way into everything. Thank you strongman community.
idk, I'd argue that the use of tacky and the height advantage in stone loading make it less pure than deadlifts in terms of pur strength
The Paul smith comment/compliment🤣
Deadlift is a gym lift. You utilize the movement in everyday life but it’s not the same movement. I’d say a natural stone medley example natural stone to platform stone overhead or over shoulder into a carry. But a gym lift as a decider for WSM no way. I’d love to see a natural log long and short logs medley where it’s uneven awkward and you have to lift it press it and carry it. Or a yoke medley. Yoke into zercher carry into waiter walk.
It's just ridiculous that Mitch despite not doing a single International show he destroyed everyone in his group 😅😅😅
Bet he's popular on the circuit
This guy.... go Moose!
Great strongman but god damn his mister im so different and special persona is a bit cringe😅
After Arnolds Mitch didn't seem bothered he won. He was cocky with Mateusz. He talks down everyone else. He's a good strongman but if he won everything he'd be even more cocky. he needs to be more respectful.
"Dumb ways to die"...check out Mitch and his Fingal Fingers FAIL
Genetics for lasting long and getting it in
That's what she said
I get where Colin is coming from but you can still specialize in stones. Stones have effectively guaranteed an athlete like T. Stoltman or Shaw getting into the final and picking up points at the end. Knowing you can cruise through the heats with stones as a banker or that if you’re top 3 going into stones at the final is such an absolute advantage.. I would dare say most fans want worlds to drop stones as a tie breaker for the heats and maybe to leave them out of the final or do them early on in the show and see who can recover from them. Or just remove them from the final for a few years and see if it shakes up the podiums
There’s a difference between having log or deadlift as a banker and having stones as a banker. Stones is the tie breaker and ALWAYS the last event at the final for worlds. If log is your banker but it’s the first event you still have the pressure of doing well for the rest of the comp
In the past decade most WSM winners are excellent stone lifters. It's a full body workout.
agreed, especially for situations like trey vs oleksii in the 2019 heats. Oleksii had a massive lead and at least at that time was an objectively better strongman. that's not to say trey isn't up there nowadays
I took a I quit test mine is 121 and I have common sense lol
I guess we’ll see.
The complexities of what he is saying is completely based on the assumption of a successful finish at WSM.
I’m enjoying his confidence; but I guess we’ll see how it plays out.
i don't see any reason thus far to expect Mitch won't win WSM at some point. He and novikov have been pure domination this last year
@@cisrael468
He knows how to play the points. He knows his strengths and how the game works.
Dr. Phil has never sounded so intellectual before.
I think a lot of people would benefit from being ok with 'being good enough every day', without that added mental pressure.
I certainly would.
yoke for max, lol
The moose 🫎 is ready to stoop his comp... Out
Mitch vs Pavlo K in the groups please.
would be good
Nah Wide Pavlo v Mitch it be interesting

Ok. Reading, writing, arithmetic in the bin. That’ll make smart adults.
First
Two yrs older then me! Crazy
Let me some up everything he just said in one sentence. He wants to under commit and over achieve. It’s an old sales tactic
