The Citadel, Quebec City | Citadelle de Québec

Perched atop Québec City's highest point, Cape Diamond, sits the largest British fortress in North America. The Citadelle of Québec is an integral part of the Québec fortifications.
The Citadelle of Québec was constructed in response to the War of 1812 as part of the British defensive strategy. Construction lasted from 1820 until 1850 and remains an active Canadian garrison, home to the Royal 22e Régiment.
The Citadelle contains the residence of the Governor General of Canada and Canada's oldest military building, dating back to 1693.
