  • In this quick video I will show you how I upgraded my garage door opener wall switch to a multi-function control panel. As you will see this is very simple and quick. I had no idea that this was even an option! From what my friends told me, they had no idea either. That's why I made this video.
I have a Liftmaster 1/3 hp garage door opener. Your project may be different than mine. I recommend that you confirm compatibility before you start.
I am not a professional in this field. If you are comfortable with such an install, I recommend that you call a pro. Let me know if you are going to try this project or one similar.
Feel free to leave your comments or questions below.
My Amazon Affiliate links to both switches in this video are below.
    Thank you and for watching.

Wow, thank you for this. There’s no reason this information should be hard to find.

Thank you. There is practically NO information online about doing this. I went to Lowes thinking I could buy a new switch and the guy didn't know anything except that they didn't carry any. Ugh. I figured that meant it was complicated project, but it doesn't look to be! Thanks again!

    Thanks.
I was expecting more than two wires to control lights and shutoff, in addition to the opener motor. Cool.
Going to try that with my old, basic Genie opener.

@@oldguytech3429 Bought a used wall switch on eBay for $18 and it works perfectly.
      Thanks again!
Now I'm thinking about getting a keypad for ~$33

I've thought of that too but I think that I am going to go a different route. I am going to make a video soon about turning my old garage door opener into a Wi-Fi device!

Liked your video a lot. I have an older 1996 Sears craftsman model 139.53673SRT that uses a 41A4899 wall switch that only opens and closes the garage door. I want to be able able to turn the light on and also from the wall switch. If I upgrade to a 41A4884 wall switch which has a button to turn on/off light; will this work?
If it works, is it possible to get generic wall switch, and also turn on/off the light from it?
    Thanks

Why is so far away from door frame?
Mine is about same distance, about 1 foot away and need to put a tall cabinet in front of it. I tried to move it a couple inches away from door but when drilled there was the wooden framing inside wall and gave it. I will try again by removing about 2 inches x 12 inches of drywall, then notch like 1/4 inch of wood for wire to pass and put back sheetrock and paint. Hope it works.

What is the part number of this control? Can I go from a wireless control to a wired like used in this video? I'd prefer wired to wireless.

If I forgot to unplug it before changing, the voltage is small that it's not that big of shock right?

Garage Door Openers, Thanks for watching and for your recommendation. I was looking into that but wasn't sure about the premium fees. I found a cost effective work around and I hope to post a video about that soon.

You didn't test the lock button

Hi Dayron Crespo, thank you for watching. You're right! The locking feature works great by disabling the radio from receiving signals from the remotes. It was super hot in the garage and we were just trying to get out of there. Hope this helps!
