Abhishek is a phenomenon. Each time I listen to him, I get a feeling his talent is not normal, but way above human capabilities. In this concert, see those lower octaves in the Sree Raagam piece-scintillating! And to "tame" Lalgudi's thillana through voice is something tremendous. You could pick out those swarams in each brigaa. Awesome and brilliant. The Mohanakalyani was outstanding!
I share both views,that Abhishek's prowess is par excellence and that,even though it evokes awe in me about his musical knowledge, it does not tug at my heart strings or cause tears to stream down my cheeks with bhakthi as the voice of M.S or Jayashri does.

The legacy of Palghat Raghu, a legend himself, is unquestionable. But I find Chembai, K.V.Narayanasswamy, the greatM.D.Ramanathan and many more from Palghat (who laid their lives for music) in Abhishek at this young age. What an exubarance voice. His kalapramanams is next only to Madurai Mani iyer. I cannot comment more as his music is beyond divinity. May lord give him many more laurels. AbhiShek cannot be Shaken by anybody because his Roots of singing are so strong. I missed his programme when held last year in Mysore at JSS Mahavidya Peetha. Iam eagerly waiting for his programme at Mysore Soon. In one of his performances, His Shanmukahapriya ragalapana which I heard is still lingering in my ears. In my teens, I was a fan of DR. MBK. and now at my 65, Iam Abhi's Fan. I pray the almighty bestow Abhishek long healthy life with his continued mellifluous voice.

I agree audience receptivity needs to be taken in to account. But at the same time it is the duty of the musician to elevate the standards of the audience. While you are receptive to the audience, you also need to go to the next level so that slowly you educate the audience. It is because of so many other contemporary musicians who have stuck only to so called " janaranjakam" that today the audience is unable to differentiate between good carnatic music and a superficial music and is in a state as you say not knowing what was going on
I agree about the audience bit but I think we need such creativity to take Carnatic music forward. Abhishek adds a new dimension to it which is so heartening to see!!
His gestures are not gimmics. They are very natural. See the face of the audience. While listening I found my self doing the same gestures while enjoying. He is very great. Of course Bombay Jaysri sang Mohana kalyani in her inimitable way. But Abishek surpasses her in some sangkathis. I bow myself before his jnana.

Ans to Vignesh! AR has done Sruti bhedam, that he has taken diff notes of Sindhubhairavi as shadja and has sung diff songs (Tillanas composed by Lalgudi Jayaraman). Tanpura tuned to one sruti would interfere while rendering the song! And hence!
Abhishek is a brilliant singer with a great felicity of voice unmatched in recent times! Particularly enjoyed "Kandan seyal andro" in Nattaikurinji - what lilting melody! - the swaraprastaram in Sri, the brilliant piece with graha bedam from Sindhu Bhairavi as the base, and the thillana in Khamas. Sri Vittal Ramamurthi and Neyveli Sri Narayanan have performed with great anticipation, grace and elegance thus embellishing the concert in many ways.
the piece that you mentioned is in MADHYAMAVATHI not SRI you could have noticed that abhishek cleverly rendered swarams with gandhara varjyam(without using gandhara or 'ga' which is a static note in madhyamavati but oscillated orsung with gamakam only in sriragam) this kriti forms one of the five lalgudi panchkam which TYAGARAJA SWAMI COMPOSED WHEN HE VISITED LALGUDI SAPTARISHISWARA TEMPLE he also sang on goddess SRIMATHI 'gati nivani' in todi was also popularised by VidwanLALGUDI AND HIS SCHOOL hope you notice the difference between madhyamavati and sri regards
Mulugu neelotpal I think you mean Ri, not Ga. Madhyamavathi has no gandhara in it, but Sri does in the avarohanam. Ri is oscillated in Madhyamavathi and is static in Sri.

It takes a big dose of skill to weave through notes (arohana and avarohana) of a raga, showing the different contours of it. Some may prefer to see less of brigha and sangathi, but advanced rasikas may welcome the exploration on top of the simpler statements of the raga..... More colours may enhance the quality of the painting... !!! Abhishek is a painter who uses lots of 'colours'..... wonderful for me.....

Abhishek delivers the Swara Jathis with his lips quivering, body vibrating....... it is exciting to watch him as well as to listen to him. I was hoping he will take off like a Jet plane, hover around the concert hall and return to his seat to start the next piece.
I remember my father and grandfather saying that Semmangudi Sreenivasa iyer, when he was young used to reach such 'take off speed' in delivering the Swaras and notes. When he sang in Temples within the triangle of Trichy, Tanjore and Kumbakonam, the make-shift 'medais' (stages) apparently vibrated visibly when Semmangudi got going in full speed delivering the notes rapidly with all his strength, his body vibrated which, in turn was felt through the stage.... !!!!
NAttaikurinji was mellifluous. Especially the glides in the lower octave. I felt like this is an experiment in the voice following the instrument style, a reversal of the 'gayaki ang'. Opinions solicited.
