That was unexpected. As was the Mark Knopfler reference. 😂 It does make a lot of sense, as you say, if you're not an animation specialist and need some specific motion really fast.
And here I look on in jealousy. Seriously though, while I get that mo-cap suits are specialized technology and very complicated etc. etc. the cheapest (non-optical) there is still being over $2.5k is honestly insane. I saw an article once about a DIY mocap suit (again, non optical) that cost $500 (Look up: Building A Motion Capture Suit On The Cheap by: Lewin Day). Sure, it didn't have anything fancy like facial tracking or even hand tracking, but it would already be a massive step up from nothing at all. I really don't get why no one has decided to mass produce something like that yet. Even at $750 it would still be by far the best option there is for most indie creators. My personal conspiracy theory is that all the mocap suit manufacturers deliberately engage in price gouging since the suits are just niche enough that they can get away with charging a premium. Still, I think there is a massive untapped market of amateur animators more than willing to buy these suits at a reasonable price. So much for the "'invisible hand of the market", what a joke.
Honestly, I don't think the price is too bad at all considering a Galaxy flip phone costs about $2k. At the end of the day, it's specialist equipment mostly aimed at businesses who can afford the expense for the value it provides. I have to image in R&D costs will be quite high on something like this. Especially as Rokoko are continually adding new features and firmware improvements. But a cheaper, perhaps more basic, alternative would be very welcome.
That's an early visit from Santa! 😁

Can you make an animation of a tourist in west Africa?, we'll give you our west African plant asset pack for free to use
I got the exact same suit about a year ago, hated it. I am selling mine and cant find buyer unfortunately :(
The Rokoko subreddit might be a good place to check for buyers. What didn't you like about it?
