Super Mario Bros Movie: Behind the Voices

- Mario has one of the most iconic voices of any character in videogame history. The voice has become one of the most memorable things about this beloved character. Can you believe that this voice all started with a monologue about pizza? Charles Martinet is the voice actor who’s been providing Mario’s voice ever since the character first spoke in a game. Hearing the story about how he scored the role certainly makes it sound like Martinet’s now-iconic interpretation of the character was a surprise to both him and the auditioners who worked with Nintendo, alike. From his first time performing as Mario back in 1992 to his most recent Mario role in 2022, Martinet has said “it’s a-me, Mario!” in a way that no one else quite can. Martinet has provided the voice for many other video game characters, including even more characters that we know and love from the Super Mario Bros franchise, including Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, and even Donkey Kong. Joining Chris Pratt to lend their talent to the film, Anya Taylor Joy, Charlie, Day, Keegan Michael-Key, Jack Black and Seth Rogen. Even so, no voice is quite as recognizable and irreplaceable as Mario’s. It’s always interesting to learn about how an iconic voice came to be, but now is an especially important time to consider all that went into making Mario’s voice what it is today. This is, of course, because there’s already been some backlash over the highly anticipated Super Mario Bros movie. Actor, Chris Pratt is putting on Mario’s red hat and taking on the role for the film. Will he be able to master Mario’s voice? We’re ready to find out. Lets-a-go!

❤ Mario. Did everyone forget the Super Mario super Show. All the characters had different voice actors including Mario. ❤Mario. Also the show introduced The Legend of Zelda series. ❤ Zelda as well.
It was from a time neither character had an actual voice in the games, therefore, there is no way to compare. Even the characters' design is way different to what we know in recent years. Take a look at Link and Zelda, they're aweful in the 90s show.
my friend what are you talking about
The Super show rap is in the movie
Why did you put so many periods? That was confusing to read😂
@@bellemaria4116 exactly, i'm losing my mind trying to figure out what this is trying to say
Jack Black singing Peaches is what made me love the movie, I almost forgot Chris Pratt voiced Mario
Hahhah hahhaha same
Yess
Yes!! I loved the song so much my the ringtone I have for my boyfriend is set as that song. 😂😂
I would have preferred charles martinet
I hope Dry Bowser would also play by Jack Black, just like Bowser.
Jack Black killed it!!! So good!!
Jack Black...?
@@ashhollan yes…. Who did bowsers voice?
He stole their thunder with the song "Peaches" God his voice!!!
@@ashhollan He’s the voice of Bowser in the movie.
He'll yah
Best movie I have seen in many years. I can't believe how well Jack black did peaches. I plan on watching it many more times. It captures a part of my childhood. Yushi not being in it was all I was disappointed about till the end credit seen. Now I can't wait to see what they do next. Thanks for giving this gift of a movie
I haven't wanted to see a nostalgic reboot so bad in my life. It's pure. No agenda. All Mario.
yep. it feels like i haven't watched a good movie for a long time, but then there is this mario movie. it was so good. no agenda whatsoever. so good...
The movie was AWESOME!! The actors nailed it and brought these beloved characters to life for many of us Nintendo/Rare gamers❤❤❤❤
I can honestly say every single character voice was nailed. Watched the movie and absolutely loved the performances.
is the movie fully in 3d like does it worth to see in 3d?
@@sylvainh2o I watched in standard but going to watch in 3D/dmotion seats. Maybe read up some reviews on 3D
Even Chris Pratt surprisingly. I will always prefer that high pitched Italian voice but I enjoyed his performance enough to forget what I was afraid of.
They all did amazing. Marvelous creation by all involved. It that was full of nostalgia all around. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Chris did a great job! Imagine having Mario with the squeaky voice in the entire movie...🥴
Bruh they could have had an Italian voice actor with a normal baritone voice pitch. The only reason they went with Chris was so people would be like “oh shit it has starlord in it! I gotta consoom it now”
@Saul Landiof But it would've been really dumb to hear Charles Martinet's Mario, or any Italian actor, say a serious line though.
Yeah I wouldn’t be able to stand it
@saullandiof5768 They're supposed to be Italians who were born and raised in Brooklyn. So the Brooklyn accent being prominent than Italian makes so much sense.
@@saullandiof5768 casting an Italian guy I kinda agree with. But I do think your reason for Pratt being casted is weak. Starlord is not the first thing to come to mind with Pratt. Sure he worked with marvel. Maybe you just think of Starlord when you hear Chris Pratt.
I knew from the moment that Jack Black was cast that the movie was going to be a MINIMUM 8 out of 10.
He always brings an infectious passion and enthusiasm to whatever he works on.
PEACHES PEACHES PEACHES PEACHES I LOOOVE YOUUUU
They all did amazing!!
Anya bingeing Mario kart to learn peaches personality 😂 explains why she thinks peach being badass is a "new" era 😅
EXACTLY. That's the same thing I said. 😂
Shigeru Miyamoto single handedly produced this movie to his vision, hence the level of authencity that can be felt by Mario fans.
The reason why they didn't use this guy to voice Mario is because it became popular to use big celebrities as the voices of characters. Thanks to the movie Aladdin when Robin Williams voiced the genie
Maybe. But after watching the movie, Chris statement here make sense. Try to talk like OG Mario voice all the time in full on monologue indeed will be pain in the ass. At the end, Chris done a good job voicing Mario.
True story, I like playing Peach the most in the Super Mario series. She floats well in Super Mario Bros. 2 (US) for one, and has a really cool kart in Mario Kart.
Each actor was casted perfectly, I feel like after watching it I can't agree more with their choice. Although toad was annoying at times, I don't think it's the voice actors fault rather the writing for the character😂😂 I'm glad the movie was worth watching, they did good 💯💯💯
Yeah the movie is my new favorite fav fav fav
Toad was always annoying 😂. I've always played against him in Mario Party just to slam him.
@@DivinePearl 😂😂😂😂😂
Awesome movie, awesome voice actors, all awesomely nailed it. Got goosebumps at the end of the movie, the audience gave a round of applause! It really is a family movie. Looking forward for more Nintendo Cinematic Universe particularly Super Mario Bros!!!
I'm just imaging Bowser with the voice of Lenny from Shark Tale, or Nacho Libre.
Still, Jack Black is perfect casting.
He sounds so different In this movie.!! Didn’t even recognize his voice until he sang lol
Or Po from Kung Fu Panda?
Don't forget Po from Kung Fu Panda
@@tsunderekuudere1532 thanks for siding with me. We can’t forget that Jack Black is Po the panda. From the king fu panda movie series. You might say trilogy, but I heard they might make the fourth one.
@@meganarnold9178 looking forward to the fourth one
Keegan Michael Key also played Ducky in Toy Story 4 😮
Toad was the only voice that didn’t sound like the actor so good
Amazing cast. My daughter and I love the movie
Movie was a mass success!! If it ain’t broke don’t fix it! I cannot wait for the next Mario movie!
Luigi got done dirty in the movie. I would love to see a Luigi Mansion movie. I really wish they would have had more scenes with Mario and Luigi instead of splitting them up and Day getting not much.
Time like hope is an illusion best voice and delivery
I started watching the movie with no expectations, but they really surprised me, it is very good and fun, good story , good edition, very good !!!
They did really well. Was glad they included Martinet in the movie!
A fun movie. I really enjoyed it.
Would watch the sequel.
I have seen this film in 3 days maybe... 10 times!?:D
My childhood comes back in my head.
Mario, Luigi, and Toad 🐸 are so funny 😆 😆 😁 and adorable 🥰 ☺️ 😊!
I had always thought Chris Pratt was a great choice for Mario. And I was glad he didn't do "the voice" because then it would most likely get annoying😂
They all did a fantastic job!
it seemed like they were weird choices but somehow it worked really well, they did a good job
Everyone did such a great job becoming the character... except donkey kong just became Seth Rogan.
Amazing video 👌
You sound like Charlie Day yourself.
This is one the best child nostalgia movies 95 of 100 from me. Love it.
I love your songs both Peaches and Tribute
That's perfect!
Amazing movie cause everyone can enjoy it 😊
It did work out brilliant. I have seen the movie twice so far and I don't think about hes accent during the movie
The usual, if someone didn't do something people say "he should had done it" but if the man does it people says "someone else could had done it better" it's a never ending story with *EVERYTHING!*
What are u referring to ?
I love the voice actors they did such a good job especially for Peach and Bowser.
Jack Black killed the movie. He did a great job playing Bowzer
Going to see the film tomorrow.
Request: Casper’s Scare School: Behind the Voices
It was an amazing movie 👍👍
My daughter is 1 and she LOVES this movie so I get the pleasure to watch it constantly. The casting was awesome and I too had doubts with Pratt. So glad to be proven wrong. It’s fantastic
“In an insane world, it’s the sane ones that are called crazy”
Also a great character lol
Love the movie
I had no problem with Pratt as Mario. Overall, I enjoyed it.
Its crazy cause Jack Black literallu amped up the move lol. He made viewers leave with something which was the song. I thought overall the movie was phenomenal. Jack Black was incredible. Also, didn't know Keagon Key was in there. His voice is so freaking distinct. He plsys in so many kids movies you automatically know its him. Hes so freaking funny when you hear him 😂😂😂😂😂
Movie was amazing two thumps up
i don't care what people say, we need charles martinet to voice mario in the movie. is actually a professional voice actor that can say dialogue besides random shouts.
I felt exactly the same way at first, but just came back watching the movie yesterday i think they did a great job. Chris was right, in a long driven movie, the happy high pitch Mario voice just wouldn’t fit well and would downplay the serious themes.
Keegan's voice as Toad reminds me of Snowball. But he did very great. 😅
4:54 Man really called Charles Martinet “Chris Martinet”.
When i watched the movie i actually didnt know the voice actors, but when bowser sang? I immediately knew it was jack like who doesn't know his singing voice right?
It’s a great movie!
Jack Black was the best thing in this movie his bowser was awesome
Jack black brought bowser to life
I ❤ the song from the movie peaches
Since Mario and Luigi are supposed to be from Brooklyn I'd prefer it if they'd used a more Lou Albano's type of voice from the Super Mario Bros. Super Show of 1989.
I like Jack black myself he is so talented in many ways
They made the right choice with the voices of Mario and Luigi
Jack Black nailed it!!!
Anyas Peach is not a new era Peach. It's Mario's animated series Peach if I remember correctly.
yoshi was near the river just gave mario a glance remember. so my guess is . that there will be a part 2 since it did so well. Yoshi teams up as a major role and they take on evil cousin Wario.
4:54 I love Chris Martinet🥲
1:35 The writers for TTG wrote this movie?! My god, how did this ever turn out as well as it did?
3:35= the way Jack black says that bowser is like metal just makes me laugh 😂
I love how you tried to leave out rogen of this video
Mario Bros was perfect! Chris Pratt gave Mario substance as more than just a comical character. He made Mario relatable, and it would have been highly annoying to hear that game voice throughout the movie. So I believe he was the perfect fit. This coming from a fan of traditional games. The cast has to be one of the best choices for voice overs I’ve heard in a long time.
Charlie day did great
I finally watched this movie. I did play the video games with my siblings growing up, and now I'm 27.
My favorite is Yoshi, I can't wait to see who can voice the character. I am hoping for Zac Efron. He'll be perfect for Yoshi. Yoshi would be the cutest.
When you watch Super Mario as an adult, you can see different styles from games itself.
Jack black definitely killed it. He hits every scene perfectly. But they all sounded great. 😅
Chris Pratt is the voice of Emmet & Charlie Day is of Benny from both Lego Movies
4:53 he said Chris instead of Charles
Peach in this movie is the best embodiment of a strong, independent woman. Take note on that Disney. (Peter Pan and Wendy sucks)
I wish they would play guess that Mario character with the voice cast of the super Mario brothers movie. They would be in separate rooms or together and work like a video of children react to(old TV shows, and old games) they would ask Charlie Day. Did you know Luigi has a love interest? His response (????) the person asking the question shows a picture of princess daisy. They ask Jack Black about the kooplings and does he know that Bowser has a son name Bowser Junior? They would basically show the cast pictures of other Mario characters and have them try to guess who they are Wario Waluigi Birdo Rosalina daisy toadette they probably know who Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong are there’s a glimpse of them in the movie. Because of a disability, I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I would like to see the movie.
Peach is just princess bubble gum now
that's what I taught as well. should use the original princess bubble gum voice actress.
They left out Yoshi
yoshi was near the river just gave mario a glance remember. so my guess is n hope. that there will be a part 2 since it did so well. Yoshi teams up as a major role and they take on evil cousin Wario.
4:53 "Chris Martinet" 💀
the princess is a badass in the movie because she's the best player character. all is as it should be.
I didn’t know it was jack black until he sang the peaches song. Same with DK.
Mamamia this word , always say this movie
Jack Black: DK
Keegan Michael Key : Luigi
Anya Taylor-Joy: Still Peach
Seth Rogan: Bowser
Chris Pratt: Still Mario
Charlie Day: Toad
i just wanna say...peaches peachees peachees peacheees peacheeees,i loooove yyyoooooouuuuuu
Wish you included Donkey Kong :(
Where is daisy
Bowsette singing to peach is real not autoshipped bs love
You Did the voice for donkey kong?
I wanna meet them all get autographs from them
👍👍
The peach song brought me here lol
this guy might be mario 🗣️🗣️
Jack black should win the Oscar for voicing Bowser he’s made the movie huge!
ngl. Jack Black carried the movie with his spot on Bowser.
How dare you not talk about donkey kong and his voice actor like how you talked about the other characters and there voice actors that's not fair at all lol lol
I saw the movie and I didn’t know it was Jack Black..Jack made it funny..especially the song.
4:53 "Chris Martinet"
There's no way Jack Black plays as bowser
I need Jack Black to sing it LIVE!!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 peaches peaches peaches I looove yewww
I just saw it with my kids. It is just a fun movie. The creators didn’t get into anyone’s alternative sexuality. Hear that Disney?
Look, I have to ask: why does it matter whether or not a movie talks about queer people?
@@ResistancePastabecause they are unneeded in a movie...
That’s because Chris Pratt was in it and he probably said he wouldn’t do it … but they did make peaches a feminist 👌🏾🫶🏾🤌🏽🤘🏽
@@liguster96 Okay, sure, if it's like a big company virtue-signalling by shoehorning in a half-baked message, sure, but OP's implication seemed to be that just mentioning someone being queer is a problem
@@ResistancePasta because this queer "representation" is not about representation anymore. It is used to deflect criticism and further "prove" LGBT are victim of "hate", further putting out the agenda that "people hate queer", it is disingenuous. You HAVE to enjoy this character regardless if it is bad otherwise you are homophobic/transphobic. This is the argument movie makers use to shield their bad writting and directing.
I don't think queer in movie is bad at all, it's just best for everyone when they are done well and not forced in every movie. Otherwise it is bad rep, not to mention insulting, don't you think?
