      It's funny, if I heard about Clapton doing a concert with Collins and guys from MJ's band I would have said "ugh, why?" but the band really works. I forgot what a good drummer Collins was, IMO his music as a solo artist is mostly commercial drek but he's always been a great drummer, not just technically good but a drummer who is musically interesting and creative as well which is much rarer.

      Phil Collins is a little like Prince to me. I know that sounds like a crazy comparison, but I mean it this way: he's absolutely a genuine musical talent. Melodically, stylistically, he's a bottomless pit of cross-genre creativity. But all the stuff that gets radio airplay kind of sounds like the same one trick. You don't find his good stuff without going looking for it, but the farther you go off the beaten path the more you realize how much the musician side of him has been shortchanged by the pop star.

      It has been argued --- Rightly So --- that the 80s were THE MOST FERTILE decade , beginning to end, for music. Clapton was A WRECK in the 70s -- heroin addiction, followed by alcohol addiction. He made a nice musical and personal recovery in the 80s. His live performances regained a vitality and sense of fun that were lost in the 70s. My favorite span of EC 'S career is from 1985 til today. Quite a miracle that he survived his demons and is able to still perform at such a high level of musicianship. Thank You , ERIC, for a LIFETIME of enjoyable & Soulful music memories 😎🎸

      Gotta say, the band was on better form at the Birmingham NEC show they recorded off the same tour. Clapton's solo on White Room was one of the best I've ever heard that night, and Collins seemed more comfortable letting rip too.

      +Colette Davis Hi, if you like Phil, look into a Genesis album from 1977 called 'Seconds Out'. (Peter Gabriel was the lead singer, then he left and Phil came from behind drums and sang lead. Sounded like Gabriel because they were original members of Genesis.) But on 'seconds out', Phil sings and plays drums with other drummers. Very strong music, for 'Live' it is excellent, better than studio. Best song: Cinema Show. Second best song: Supper's Ready. Might be able to get it here at the tube. Peace to you.

There is a really good song on there called 'deep in the motherlode' with the lyric 'go west young man', it's an excellent 'Phil' song, catchy. Probably can find it here. Finally, here's some trivia: Phil was part of the audience in 'Hard Day's Night'.

    Eric is a signature guitarist. Self made guitar licks, he is very recognizable, clearly unique, the way he choose his notes in those solos, man, thats only him alone. Like a label, on his own. In a category of originality like J.J. Cale, Slash, Santana, many more, we all know. I love you all

    Easily my favorite live show of his. But I'm biased. I was 16 in 1986 and 'August' remains my favorite album of his and Phil remains one of my biggest drumming influences. I thought Phil exceeded expectations playing music not necessarily in his natural wheelhouse. Phil later went on to say that this was the best band he had EVER worked with. High praise from someone who worked with pretty much everyone.

    Energy music, now the times had passed and all the ideals are gone, now they had to play for the 11S, like Neil Young, I see this concert like a sign of it could have been and never was the world. This music is like sacred for me, I was listening to this man for all my life I have all his official discography and some bootlegs. Specially I love the Blues Disc and the 12th night bootlegs. What's going to be our future with no artists like this one?. I'm afraid of the future, I'm only 34 but I'm just not able to live as I live without these lyrics, this music, sometimes I feel it's the only thing make me feel alive. HaliniSnow I wouldn’t say he was a blues guitarist per say... he played blues here and there but a big part of his music was Psychedelic rock

    As a kid one of my first concert was this tour and to this day still on of my favorites after all theses years. This was a supergroup and thank you for showing this concert in full. This one is cool because it is more loose in the playing vs. any offical tour recording and that equals epic moments.

      When you saw this, at the time were y'all aware of just how legendary EC was? Phil Collins is no slouch either.

    • @chriszenner9652
      @chriszenner9652 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I went for EC. Then word got out, before social media, that he would be touring with "special guests". Immediately I figured since Phil produced and played on the album they were supporting he might show up. Then I begged my dad to take me. They Were My Two Faves at the time. I got there and saw the white Gretch kit and I was so in aw seeing it in person I was getting into Cream at the time so I was a bit aware of ECs legacy. By chance the way the seats were set up I was as close as I have ever been to my idol (Collins).Even to this days 3 Genesis concerts and one solo tour later. (30 ft.) :) another rarity Collins did a drum solo? Not a drum duet a drum solo!. Some stops on the tour he sang in the air tonight but for some reason that happened. Ticket price I believe was under 15 bucks!

    I get the feeling that at times they were hoping Phil would chill a bit, but ...... he just drove even harder! The rest of the band looked knackered. When the drummer has the most energy syndrome! Brilliant.

    I remember getting this on videotape. A favorite. I wasn't wild about his '80s output, although I liked "Forever Man" a lot. I saw him on the Money & Cigarettes, where his guitar sounds were impeccable, his playing was dynamic and great. Changed my life. There were some great moments on the Behind The Sun tour, but he was headed into the Phil Collins era. A bit too much chorus for my taste. However, this tour was brilliant(I didn't see it live). Eric is forced to play more guitar in a 4-piece setting, which is awesome. You can't much better players to back him. Greg Philengaines is a brilliant player and vocalist, and, of course, Nathan still plays with Eric, can play anything.
