That LawnBoy is very modern compared to the one I used growing up! And that was modern compared to the two my grandfather used every week - i assume they started out green, but there wasnt even a hint of paint anywhere. Completely bare metal, but working like new last i saw them, 40 years ago.

I remember sooooo many kids who cut lawns to make money had Lawn Boys. Their Dads', I assume. They all had metal debris shields dragging on the back so as the kids pushed them down the street, they'd make this godawful noise! Every time I see a Lawn Boy on You Tube I think of that. Which makes my think of Big Wheels, those all-plastic, low rider tricycles. Not only were the plastic wheels noisy on the sidewalk, they had a spring that would "thum" on the inside "spokes" of the rear wheel to make a "motor" sound! Between Big Wheels and Lawn Boys, it was always a loud, annoying Summer! A Lawn Boy running and on the grass, though, wasn't too bad.
Good ol Lawnboy, now you are talking my language. Lawnboys are an "acquired taste" for sure. Owners and technicians either love these mowers, or really hate them. And, that is understandable. Those rewinds are delicate and difficult to work on. The tiny rewind handles (looks like this newer model has a larger one though) slipped out of your hands easily, allowing the rewind to snap back and damage the spring. This newer model has a nice hole where the rewind plugs into, the older ones had a combination of flat plate/screw set up that held the rewind in place. This one is more of a challenge due to the added rope length for the handle mounted rewind grip. Many of the dainty plastic pieces and air filter tend to strip out and fall off as well. The powerheads are fairly robust and simple, but the "dainty" add ons make these units unfit for rugged contractor use. If one can be careful with the rewinds and plastic bits, you are rewarded with a simple/powerful mower that lasts a long time. If not, stick with the Briggs engines. I applaud your patience, surely have "been there/done that" with these delicate rewinds. A little concerned cuz I didn't see any smoke coming from this two stroke, but maybe these newer models used a lean oil/gas mix...

Good video Bruce, tried to give a commercial L.B. away this spring I inherited - no takers I bought a assortment of Tygon and starter ropes years ago and got carried away! Oh well someone will end up with it I guess? I seem to go capt. fumblenutz when I cook lately and drop stuff, you are lucky to have your other half for that. 😊
