My college teachers would be so annoyed with that (in a funny haha way). Their whole motto is “know what you’re doing” I would love to wear a shirt that says that. If Evan and Katelyn don’t make it, i might do it on the embroidery machine myself 🙃
i'm not sure whether you've done it here, but for anyone else crafting with cardboard - when making things with multiple layers i recommend alternating the ways the corrugation goes so it doesn't go parallel on every layer but makes a grid, that way the overall piece will be much stronger and won't bend as easily. sincerely, a cardboard crafter
I’ve been doing a lot of cardboard crafts recently and I’ve found if you alternate the direction of the corrugations, gluing them together at 90 degree angles, the cardboard is actually SUPER strong and flat. I just use PVA glue and my little boxes are STRONK! Might be an idea for mark 2!
I bought a bunch of thick cardboard sheets a few years ago, strung a shelf up on the wall next to my bed, expected to replace it in a few months, and it's still practically pristine
Oh, yeah. I've known this since I was a kid (though, to be fair, I played with a LOT of cardboard and duct tape as a kid). Basically, the more unique angles you can get between your layers, the stronger the cardboard will be, because when one sheet wants to bend one way, another sheet will stop it from doing so.
Pizza box x laptop… Now that’s just giving me ideas for a stereotypical hacker in 2000-2010s movies who uses the pizza box as a disguise for their laptops XD, i hope that makes sense!!
I don't know if you guys didn't know this or specifically wanted to lean into the flimsy everyday cardboard vibe, but there's some super strong cardboard available out there. it's a double corrugated layered cardboard that's a lot thicker and much more bend, warp, and generally everything-resistant than regular cardboard. it's usually used in heavy duty commercial applications or artwork, so maybe it could be another option for future cardboard projects!
@@a.v.y8331 I have a bunch of those tiered internal packing supports that would've been perfect for the outer shell. My family uses them as cheap art canvases. 😂🤷🏼
You can make that stuff yourself by putting two (high quality) single layers together. Pro tip you can put the fluting at a 90 degree angle for extra stability
Yeah we have a cardboard that comes in with some products that almost has a sort of "water resistant" coating all over it. Could be a good use for the outside shell! That mid-plate can also be removed to only have the touchpad and the keys that would have a truer cardboard laptop as the mid-plate is acting as the metal plate Evan wanted to add.
If you do make another cardboard laptop (or something else "structurally significant"), you have to cross laminate the pieces like you were making plywood, from personal experience making things from cardboard (including a full sized cardboard door) it drastically improves structural stability
If only you had some software on it that detects if it's stolen and responds by downloading and seeding a bunch of movies and music in the background. (Or just turning itself into a Tor exit node.)
