- In this fly tying tutorial Cheech Ties the Dusty Old Bat Caddis!
If you are headed to the comment section to watch me be scolded about nicknames, listen, you don't choose your nickname, it chooses you... Rest assured that she has a great sense of humor and she has some great nicknames for me too. Too bad she doesn't have a youtube channel she can use to make fun of me... But yeah, the comments might be high quality entertainment.
Anyhoo, This is a darker profile pattern that can be tied in lots of colors to match your local caddis hatch. It has a LOT of floaty parts and skates really well for when the caddis are getting crazy at dusk. In a dual dry fly rig, this fly paired with an Iris Caddis on the dropper is an effective rig that works almost everywhere I've fished a caddis hatch.

Nice pattern, Cheech. Should work on Grannoms.
I have often thought about doing something similar honoring my wife. I wouldn't want to steal anyone's fly name. Are there any known patterns called "The Nag?" 😂😅😂
Sir, you are either the bravest man alive, or your wife has a great sense of humor. If we don't see another video uploaded, we'll know.
Cheech here. Reporting that I am indeed alive
Dude! You can also call it the "FLYING NOSE HAIR"!!!! I absolutely love it.
Thanks for sharing, definitely will try this pattern
Seems like the dusty old bat is a bit materialistic 😂. Thanks for sharing
Nice fly I do feel the simple split thread for the cdc collar is so much easier then all the fancy tools
Affectionately no doubt ☕️☕️
Nicely done 😉
Looks nice. Should catch fish. Always lovevfly tying tutorials, as much as I wish i could match the hatch in snowy plains river. I know its presentation vs opportunity for the fussy fish....nice job all the same great work, keep up the videos and content, and keeo it fresh. Cheers
Nice , I tie my October caddis like this . Thanks for sharing.
Nice buggy fly!! Tight lines🐛🐜🕷️!!!!
Cool, thank you for the demonstration.
🤣 Great looking fly! If I called my wife that it would be the last thing I did
For Halloween you gotta tie a bat fly. Thanksgiving you gotta tie the strutting turkey fly and for Christmas you have Santa, Rudolph, a Christmas tree and a reindeer to tackle. You like deer hair look all those up! Most all of these have tying instructions online. Make cool gifts.
Nice
AWESOME FLY!!! Looks a lot like Hanna Vestergaard's CDC and Elk Caddis. How does the FM Ultra Dry Yarn compare to EP Trigger Point Fibers?
I don’t see the pepperbox yarn on website…can you add it to the material list? Thanks!
I ❤ spinning with CDC and Veevus 16/0. You should see my Slim Woodie. Regards from the Upper Delaware River.
I’ve never seen a man’s slim woody. Should I be scared.
Great tie! Is it just me or are the fibers on the Pepper Box color shorter than usual? I just picked up a pack of Sulphur Yellow and the fibers seem pretty long. Are the fibers different lengths for different colors?
I’m sure there are variances. These are actually longer if you pick them out. If they are too long you can trim it in half and then re-blend
@@FlyFishFood Ok thanks. I just went back and looked at the pack and it seems I bought the Tactical Dry Fly Dubbing and not the Ultra Dry Fly Dubbing so maybe the fibers are longer.
What color yarb for the underwing?
You could cut your beard Cheech. It would look just like pepper box lol
Hi
It's possible to tying with but and head Orange ?
Yes. Especially if you use Orange thread for this fly.
Is that really Pepperbox dubbing or Cheech beard? 🤔
Ha you beat me to it lol
We all thinking the same thing. Looks identical.
Also this IS necesery a false collerette with as much matériels?
I'm not sure what you are saying... Just know this, there are no rules for fly tying. Just do it however you want.
Thé false collerette in english
Collar
Because in french WE says fausse collerette
False collar
Because thé collar IS not in feathers but in CDC or others matériels
I wishper that you know my explains
I think a lot of the time (not necessarily in this case) people are using loops and contraptions to wind cdc when simply tying it in by the tip and winding the feather will do the job just as well. I suppose if you want bulk and density the loop or split thread is the way.
@@callumclark3358 tying CDC in by the tip works fine, but it’s much less durable than a fly with a CDC loop.
I work with a woman whose nickname is the Swamp Troll. Can you design a fly with that name?
Already did. It’s just a mop fly
The better question is what is the name of the fly named after her boyfriend…
