I get tears remembering how my mom spoke about her wonderful voice when we watched Touched By An Angel together. My mom transitioned on Christmas Eve 2021 and I know she is singing with Della in heaven and the angels. We also watched her in Christmas Angel (came out in 2012) and her powerful raw performance moved us to tears. I just watched this on TV again and in tears missing my mom every day.
I was thinking of my own mother while I was watching this beautiful performance, and how we used to enjoy Touched By An Angel, and I came across your comment and was thunderstruck because she also passed on Christmas Eve in 2021. I don't know what the message is, but I think it must be God talking, and I hope it's a sign that your mom and mine are friends in heaven :)
SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL!!!! MY GOD! Her enunciation is so perfect with every word, key, and note. Madam Della Reese, you are truly a gem. Madam Mahalia Jackson taught you well my darling. I am only now seeing this on 5/11/2023 at 3:25 a.m. Much love from Central Florida, thanks for sharing this with us :)
"I sing because I'm Happy... I sing because inside I'm Free... My God's eye is even on the little sparrow... that's how I know he watches over me!" She may not have that top shelf voice, but you sure can feel every word she's singing. It's not always about the voice, but it's how they use it She sure can use it to sing this song.... Every ounce of her heart and soul is in it!! ❤ Happy Sunday 🕊 thank you for sharing! 🙏
She may not have had an 8 octave voice, but her voice had tremendous power and control, which is something I would choose any day over the number of octaves.
@@cassdaley2652 Nobody has a usable eight octave voice. The full size 88 key piano is only 7 1/4 octaves. The most flexible female voices sing from maybe a G3-G6, three octaves, and men with a good falsetto voice can expand the range even more because they can sing lower. Most people don't even know what an octave is when they are saying things like that. Anyway, some of the BEST singers don't have extremely wide ranges, but DO have beautiful voices and artistry in how they sing.
utterly underrated. della barely gets a mention these days when people discuss the jazz/blues/soul greats..she is up there with nancy wilson/shirley bassey/eartha kitt/mahalia jackson/dinah washington/aretha franklin etc etc. ask any young person who is della reese and they won't have a clue. ask them who justin bieber is and they know immediately. now that is bloody sad!!!
There are hundreds and hundreds of top singers of the 40s-60s whom most people don't know about. But when she was singing, everyone knew who Della Reese was.
I just remember Della from my childhood as a chubby celebrity who showed up occasionally on this or that sketch. I had no idea she was such a talented singer, truly amazing voice.
@@aconater According to the Cambridge dictionary chubby means “rounded in a pleasant and attractive way”. It is colloquially considered a euphemism for slightly overweight. Della was indeed at least chubby, to speak accurately is hardly disrespectful, especially since my comment was aimed at praise. You are hereby suspended from the adjective police patrol.
Thanks Della without you Roman Downey and the rest of the touch bond angel cast along with my mom grandmother's I wouldn't have been saved so from the bottom of my heart. Thank you so much
My, LORD what range have YOU given YOUR daughter Della. Just beautiful, GOD. Hallelujah!!!

Trivia Time: Martha Reeves was a Della fan and named her group "The Vandellas" after Van Dyke street in Detroit and Della.
Wow 😍
I can honestly hear the influence of Della in Martha's voice 😊
What a truly colossal voice. Just a column of sound when she wants. And other moments so soft. So warm and rich. Great voice.
Our Angel that walked the earth, For our Lord. A Blessing.
Dear, Della. ✨😇🕊✨
Ms. Reese was originally in the Detroit gospel group the Meditation Singers. Singer, Laura Lee, also came out of this fine group.

She wasn't "chubby" She was regal.
I’m sure you’re mature enough to have been able to use a more respectful description, do better next time….smh🤦🏾♂️

He wasn’t a vegetarian. He just didn’t eat meat all the time like most Germans did at the time.
Della Reese was once thin?
Were you?
@@withgoddess1119 Yes. But all the times I ever saw her before she was heavy set.
She did some great acting throughout her later years, too!
Silly clown 🤡
*That's* your takeaway from this? Seriously? This should have stayed in drafts.
