You can’t just slap 2 pieces together like that, it will look awful, not a “boat neck”.
My plan it to stack a couple of short rows at the top end of the pieces and finish off the neck line with the single crochet edge.

There are increases and decreases at the end of the rows where the neck is. There's actually a pattern or two on Ravelry showing this.

Thanks for sharing, but I must say, sleeves are not in opposite direction, they are also same direction because ain't nobody gonna runaround all day holding their arms in a T position 😅So when you normally put your arms down, they are same direction.
I 100% disagree with you, but by all means, do it the way you want. I always say: there’s no wrong way to be creative if you’re getting the results you want.
I am going to possibly attempt once I find the appropriate yarn. I am looking at a light sport weight or light DK. I am not a fan of making garments out of weight 4’s they are crazy heavy.

Thanks so much for sharing all this, Kristin! I’m making one for my bestie’s granddaughter. I do have a question… the photo of TS looks as though the dress is wide enough to make a sort of drop shoulder. So if I want to go for that kind of fit, it seems that I would need to add a bit of width to each side of the front and back pieces, and then decrease the sleeve length by that amount. Does that sound right/make sense?
Yes, if you take a wide shoulder measurement, make sure you measure sleeve from that exact point to cuff for sleeve.

I looked at a few more views of the dress online. It looks as though the dress is initially made with long continuous chains/rows and then folded in half. Maybe it is joined on the sides. But it doesn't look like two panels.

Yes, I do have a question! Why are we measuring shoulder to shoulder? I would think I need to measure around my bust & then divide by 2 & make that my measurement, wouldn't I? I'm worried that if I measure shoulder to shoulder that this will be too tight around my bust. Please help my thought process. Thanks so much for this video & for your help in advance. Also curious if you found any "Swifty" crocheters at the airport! I'm always looking for other hookers/knitters when I travel!
If you think your bust circumference is larger than your widest shoulder width x2, then that’s a good idea.

Easy way: measure bust. And hips, in case hips are larger than bust. Take largest measurement.
Divide by 2( for front piece, back piece). Crochet chain til length of your measurement. Crochet rows til width of half your bust/hip measurement. Voila.
Make slightly slightly larger that biggest measurement.
No big deal.
It’s a drop shoulder construction, larger than measurement, but you do you!

You say in the pattern you are using Dk yarn & a g hook? In your live you are using big twist which is a worsted weight #4 yarn and calls for an h hook- please advise.
I also said you can use any weight yarn and explained it’s all about your gauge and measurements. You can use any yarn.

the pattern has decreases for the front and back neckline.It’s not a total rectangle liked she says.

Lots of factors: weight of yarn, size of dress, and speed of crocheted. I’m estimating 20 hours with worsted weight yarn for me. Hope that helps

Are you using the recommended hook size for your yarn or slightly larger?
You could do either depending on the drape of the yarn you’re using. Make sure to block for measurements
