Guqin by far is my favorite instrument to play. It’s a personal instrument and I’m very attached to mine even though it isn’t the best quality, it’s still so beautiful. It saddens me that the Guqin is not more well known, especially in the west. It was by chance that I happened upon the Guqin, and I’m so glad I did.
Guzheng traditionally is played by musicians for audiences to enjoy. As for Guqin it was the 'must learn' instrument for the aristocrat, as part of their spiritual cultivation. In short Guzheng is for the mess, Guqin was for the elite.
With the guzheng, you “bend” pitches due to the bridges which allow you to press the string down with left-hand techniques. You cannot do this on the guqin, you have to use a lot of sliding techniques with the left hand.
@@letshuman8985 You are correct due to the difference in instrument construction. But it is actually very easy to slide on the guqin. Further more, guzheng "bend" pitches can only make the tone #, but for guqin it can make the tone # or or flat by sliding in the appropriate direction.
very interesting, it would be great to have more content on the Guqin!

Wow, its beautiful! Is there other differences between the guzeng and the guqin other than them having a different number of strings?
In short, Guzheng has a much brighter and loud sound compared to the Guqin. Guqin is mainly for self appreciation.
