In my area you can't buy just one chicken, it needs to be 4. This is because, if I remember correctly, that they are a group animal and in order to thrive, they need to be in a flock.
Have you tried quail? That's my first step toward self-sufficiency. My yard needs some help before I can do chickens. But I have a great spot in an extra shed for quail to go. Hopefully will have some babies hatching out next week :)
I live in an HOA that does not allow farm animals of any kind. In hind sight I would have bought a home somewhere else..My older parents live next door and need help with care, so moving right now is not an option. I have many raised bed gardens strategically placed around my home to fit HOA guidelines..I have been reading about having a pet chicken indoors that might lay eggs, my husband thinks I’m nuts, is this even feasible??
Coming up on a year of having chickens! We’ve loved every minute of having them! Listen to Gubba, get chickens!!
Chickens!!! 😍
One added piece of advice. If you get a rooster, name it Goober!! 😂
My cousins all raised game fowl for decades and one still has 5 acres of fowl , around 500 roosters and hens.
Thank you Gubba

HOA's are the worst! I'm glad to hear you've been able to take some steps with the raised garden beds that's amazing!
