This is one of my husbands favorite dal recipes. Whenever we go out to Indian restaurant he always orders it . I never knew how to cook it until now thanks to you Bumbi ❤️ Thanks again for another delicious recipe. Have a great weekend 🙏😊
I am definitely adding this to my menu. I cannot get black dal in my area, so this is just wonderful! And, no! I do not want my food to taste like the ocean. Love your recipes.
Who are these people complaining about adding butter to dal makhani? Just eat less! This is one of my all time favourite dishes to order out and I can't wait to try it later today.
Lovely recipe Bumbi . It looks exactly like dal makhni. What is the Indian name for black beans and pinto beans? I was wondering whether I could add onion too with the tomato garlic and ginger while blending? Can’t wait to try out this recipe. Thanks Bumbi. Have a great weekend 🌸
Unfortunately I don’t know the Indian name for black beans. Pinto beans is chitra rajma. Usually onions are not included in dal makhni but I don’t believe in all that. You can definitely use onions. If using onions add it to your pressure cooker while boiling the beans. Have a great weekend my friend.
thanks for sharing ....love watching your videos and must say you certainly have a sense of humour my friend... looking forward to many more interesting recipes 😉🤠😋😋😋😋😋
This looks so good! I'll definitely try it out. I like black beans but I hardly ever eat them because I never really know what to do with them, besides tossing them into the plate as side dish to rice or burgers - I really like mushroom and black bean burger actually and I should make them more often... And it's one of those things that I only enjoy when I get a specific desire to eat them. This will add variety!
Thank you for your great channel and fantastic explanation. Have you released a book? I would be very interested to buy it like so many of your followers.
Hi Bumbi, While I’m not familiar with black lentils, black beans are right up my alley! Thanks so much for sharing this recipe with us, it’s definitely one that I’m going to try. Happy July 1st and many wishes for a wonderful weekend.
Thanks so much Dianna for all your best wishes. Now that prices of everything is going up it’s always good to use whatever is available near us and it tastes equally great with black beans.
Absolutely love, love, love this recipe. Can you substitute plain low fat yoghurt for the cream? Just trying to eat a bit healthier, especially with all that butter 😅🤣
Thanks for sharing this video. It’s fun how black beans which are a daily staple in Latin America can turn into an Indian style dal with a little creativity. Do you have any other recommendations with other beans? Lima beans or pinto beans or black eyed peas? Can we take Classic rajma recipe and replace red kidney beans with pinto beans? Will it taste the same? Or maybe you have other recommendations for using those beans? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for sharing this recipe. Looks interesting. Can we add fresh cilantro leaves if we don’t have Methi leaves? How about a sprinkle of garam masala in the end - or that’s not suitable for this recipe?
Kasoori methi has its own unique flavor, but you can always add cilantro. You can also add a sprinkle of garam masala powder if you are not adding dried fenugreek leaves.

Namaste Bumbi 🙏Bo and family ❤ Your dal makni was beautiful last night, Colin’s only variation was to have peas in the final mix, served with pilaw rice 🍚 roti on the side. Heaven. Mrs Colin says thank you 😊 buttery Bumbi. Ps: some for the freezer too!! 🏴🇮🇳Colin
Follow the same technique as showed in video. Just add 4 cups of water to start with and add more if you see the beans are not tender but the water has dried up. It will take more time.

Me again, Bumbi! I have some split black dal that I would like to use up. Is one cup of split dal enough for this same recipe? Also, do I need to soak split lentils overnight? Thank you!
Yes you need to pressure cook Urad dal as well. Pressure cook it for 20 mins if using a regular stove top pressure cooker or 25 mins if using an Instant Pot
It all depends on the beans you are using. It may take upto an hour. Just keep on checking every now and then and it will need more water if done in an open pot

Is Kashmiri chili powder equivalent to sweet paprika powder?
Not much heat but gives dishes bright red/orange color?
I won’t say it is equivalent but very close to paprika. Kashmiri chilli powder has more heat to it compared to paprika
