I was taught that it was practiced by the Hwarang dynasty (Korea, 10th Century), to knock the invading Japanese Samurai off their horses, and keep the fight on a level playing field. Fortunately, they didn't always have to start at ground level for the jump.

@bleach4711 he fits in with certain roles really well. You can say that for any actor really. Sure he doesn't have many high intensity acting in his movies but that doesn't mean what he's doing is easy. It's often the subtle stuff thats hard to pull off.

Stephen Thompson besides Lyoto Machida is a rare Ufc fighter. who can use traditional karate in mma. He’s been at the top 5 for the last five years in the welterweight division. Cool to see his insight.
Honestly lyoto and wonderboy are in my opinion the best in karate...because as in most martial arts if you cant apply it practically then whats the point? Which is why alot of kung fu is left behind and honestly karate has been around for so long its almost associated with kung fu to most in the west in that they think its the whole "flow like water" thing

i am ufc Fan and my favourite ufc fighters are Diaz brothers,GSP,JDS but to me Ufc fighters are Not Complete fighters in the world! i think shaolin kungfu is the Best fighting style in the world.i know they're not fighting in octagon and never will be but they can take out few fighter in same time becuse of Meditation.they have sharp Sense.i saw some person fighting dressed as shaolin Monk and that is gimmick not a real Monk.any way this is my opinion.
You should meet him...or train with him for 3 years. It's an act. I truly think hes a good human but His Dad, Ray and him are MONEY HUNGRY. It was $140/month for mma workouts . Once he knocked out Stiggen it moved to over $300. I was already working as much as I could in highschool to pay for that...they didnt even take my monthly price because I had so much loyalty. It's sad really.

I was taking karate when The Matrix came out. In a couple of weeks, the size of our class almost tripled. I also got lectured by my sensei for doing Neo's "bring it" taunt during a sparring match, lol

In my experience so far, very few people that get to a decent level, let alone the proficiency of Mr. Thompson here, are the stereotypical "I just want to punch some people". You need lots of patience, good mental health and a tactical mind for competetive martial arts. He is pretty exceptional though :-) Also a good entertainer. Its fun listening to him talking.

Its like "the zone" athletes describe when they are at high potential. When running, I sometimes got to a point at which I felt like I could go on forever at an ever increasing speed. If this is considered "the zone" or just high adrenaline or whatever - it just feels good and you see different results when all pain turns into fun.

Its actually crazy how effective that wonderboy can utilize karate within the ufc. He can beat most in his divison at welterweight, and another title shot isnt too far out of the realm of possibility.
It's not at all surprising, he doesn't just do karate. Tons of martial artists have a base in or have incorporated some style of karate or other traditional martial arts into their style; the best welterweight and imo best p4p fighter ever, Georges St. Pierre, started with kyokushin karate.
I like this guy. He's funny. Sidekick was my main move too when I took Karate way back in the day. Sensei even complimented my sidekicks. It's weird that all the Karate schools I hear about have way more belts than we did. We started with white, then you could move up to yellow, green, brown then black. I never knew there were blue, red or purple belts til years later.

I would argue Lyoto Machida is the best karate practitioner in MMA. Not only was he UFC champion, his record is also way more impressive.

Honestly lyoto and wonderboy are in my opinion the best in karate...because as in most martial arts if you cant apply it practically then whats the point? Which is why alot of kung fu is left behind and honestly karate has been around for so long its almost associated with kung fu to most in the west in that they think its the whole "flow like water" thing

You should meet him...or train with him for 3 years. It's an act. I truly think hes a good human but His Dad, Ray and him are MONEY HUNGRY. It was $140/month for mma workouts . Once he knocked out Stiggen it moved to over $300. I was already working as much as I could in highschool to pay for that...they didnt even take my monthly price because I had so much loyalty. It's sad really.

In my experience so far, very few people that get to a decent level, let alone the proficiency of Mr. Thompson here, are the stereotypical "I just want to punch some people". You need lots of patience, good mental health and a tactical mind for competetive martial arts. He is pretty exceptional though :-) Also a good entertainer. Its fun listening to him talking.
@@silentlamb21 Most of the elite level fighters out there that are on the level of Mr.Thompson dont come off good while speakin for longer periods, there are ofc exceptions but most of the high level fighters out there come off as Tito Ortiz,Roy Jones jr,Floyd Mayweather and etc.
Nothing wrong with not being natural speakers, only wanted to give props to a guy that has the best of both worlds, something that is really rare.

When running, I sometimes got to a point at which I felt like I could go on forever at an ever increasing speed. If this is considered "the zone" or just high adrenaline or whatever - it just feels good and you see different results when all pain turns into fun.

Brad Allen in "Gorgeous" against Jackie Chan, did the triple kick in the air -- which is what Keanu Reeves did in that scene in "The Matrix" but Keanu Reeves was on a wire to do that. It looked like Brad Allen did that for real with no wire -- that was one of the most impressive moves I've ever seen in a film.

Its actually crazy how effective that wonderboy can utilize karate within the ufc. He can beat most in his divison at welterweight, and another title shot isnt too far out of the realm of possibility.
It's not at all surprising, he doesn't just do karate. Tons of martial artists have a base in or have incorporated some style of karate or other traditional martial arts into their style; the best welterweight and imo best p4p fighter ever, Georges St. Pierre, started with kyokushin karate.
Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this gentleman lay down some knowledge, you can tell he loves the fighting movies for what they are too. 10/10

It's weird that all the Karate schools I hear about have way more belts than we did. We started with white, then you could move up to yellow, green, brown then black. I never knew there were blue, red or purple belts til years later.
