So sad to hear you didn't get to photograph Spike I'm a huge fan.
I think this story is really illustrates, politics/policy aside, why Clinton lost. People could tell she was self important, out of touch and hubristic/egotistic. Glad you stood your ground.

Thank you for making these videos. As a former entertainment media producer who has returned to portraiture, I find your channel most relevant, intelligent and helpful!

Welcome aboard! And thank you, we think the story telling is just as important as the pics for a good video.

Such a good story behind the photograph. Had a similar experience with a politician many years ago. Waited around for hours to photograph him and when I finally managed to get past all of his flunkies, he stopped me in my tracks, hand outstretched to the camera and said he needed more time to digest the images he was looking at in the huge gallery space where I planned to get the photo. Ironically. Man was a angry inside, but I did get a good shot in the end.

This whole series is so interesting. I have met a few celebrities. They are often different from how you imagine they will be.

Excellent, honest appraisal of a difficult shoot. The picture still works well, even though it was so time limited, because you had all the fundamentals in place ready to go. It is so important for photographers to understand a situation - to read the room - and anticipate the hazards. And to be persistent. I also like that the carpet tiles match her coat.

Totally, especially persistance and sometimes not taking no for an answer.
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed!

Your dedication to making excellent portraits is of huge benefit to the people you photograph, if only they realise it.

Another great story! Thanks for sharing. I’m left wondering what you said during the shoot. Did you try build report while being so frustrated or just document?

Thanks Kenny. I remember stammering a few words of direction but nothing more as I was so adrenalized by the day and had so little time...the anger and relief came later! 🙂

I hate to say this but in a sad way your story makes me feel a tiny bit better.
We've ALL had assignments like this and they ALL S.U.C.K!
Your advice about getting as much as you can as soon as you can is spot on.
    Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comment! It seems like a rite of passage for any photographer to have some sucky assignments haha.

@@fredandharryborden Alas... but on the up side, the sucky ones help give perspective. So when everything just clicks, it is all the more delish.
