Description: The affordable housing sector is uniquely positioned to lead innovation in addressing both the housing crisis and the climate crisis. Join us as we present a compelling case for decarbonizing affordable housing to create positive impacts around climate, health, and equity for Oregon’s communities.
Examining both operational energy and embodied carbon, panelists will share lessons learned from the work of the International Living Future Institute in supporting project teams pursuing certified Zero Energy and Zero Carbon affordable housing, as well as the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality’s related built environment decarbonization programs. The discussion will include an overview of programs, pathways, and incentives for decarbonizing Oregon’s affordable housing stock, and conclude with a case study of the Timber Ridge project in La Grande, highlighting replicable strategies for achieving Zero Energy affordable housing and the alignment of decarbonization with project goals.
Presenters:
Lea Celestia, Affordable Housing + Equity Manager, International Living Future Institute
