The graphics in aoe 4 are fine. Some Aoe2 players are just old and grumpy so they get sensitive when people say the prefer a modern 3d engine and graphic style over 1999 pixalated trash. Its basically the only thing some of them talk about since a good amount of them have not even played a single second of aoe4. The gameplay is great though.
I won't lie it took me a second to get used to, but after a couple skirmishes I see what the developers were going for. If they kept old graphics, then people would whine that they didn't try to innovate
The AI in multiplayer matches is kind of bugged in this game. They just attack at the beginning, but after 15 min or so, they just keep camping in their base with nearly their whole army. Then its just boring an dno more challenge
I had a match where I was fighting the Mongols on Hardest and it's like they never programmed them to unfold their building carts. I've only had it happen once or twice. I sent a small raid and instantly won.
I will never understand whatever line of thought lead to the cartoonish graphics style this game ended with, feels like a Ubisoft game. Compared this to AoE2, especially the remastered and definitive editions...this looks like dogshit.
i have been age of empire 2 player for around 15 years now, and i have to say age of empires 4 is a dogshit and here is why -the art style is cartoonish and straight bad compared to age of empire 2 which took more reaslistic and gore path which i love -the combat especially range combat its a disaster compared to age of empire 2 -the only good thing about age of empire 4 is the 3d map concept. i am extremely dissapointed with age of empire 4, i was expecting so much more from this franchise .. they dropped the ball with this modern fortnite art style
I tried to play AoE2 again and got a bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of campaigns and civs to choose from. That review is gonna take a lot longer than I thought.
@@ropeburned just go slow. Do a resurch. You need to find out original AoE2 + its first expansion. Those campains are something best. Back in 2000 that was unbelivable. I play AoE2 still.

Tecnically was 10 years since the previous game (AoEO),but 16 years since the previous main game (AoE 3)...
Best part is the narration and documentary feel of the campaign. Definite staplet for next aoe.

Completely fair tbh, they don't really market it much. Even when it was coming out I only saw a handful of advertisements.

AoE2 is 1000x better then AoE4.

It’s a matter of opinion, I definitely prefer the more unique units and more modernized graphics and gameplay of AoE4
If you played it on release and gave it up, you should try again. AoE4 is great in 2024
