When I visited Penang as Filipino, there is something special about the place, makes me feel at home. I think my ancestors maybe came from this island, I don’t know there’s this vibes.

These people are "Kinmenese overseas"(金僑). In some contexts, they can be considered a part of the broader "Taiwanese" identity since Kinmen is part of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Therefore, "Kinmenese overseas" can be seen as both Kinmenese and Taiwanese. However, this identity may vary depending on different historical backgrounds, political stances, or personal identification. Some people there might emphasize their identity as Kinmenese, especially when distinguishing themselves from people from Taiwan's main island. In other situations, they may also identify as Taiwanese. Thus, "Kinmenese overseas" can be considered "Taiwanese," but they can also be recognized as a distinct "Kinmenese" group depending on the context.
We are all Chinese. The people of Kinmen must have moved there from Fujian in the mainland, like the Hoklo (Minnan-speaking) Taiwanese. We are all Hokkian lang.
This is crazy! I made a video over a yeah ago in Penang and talked about how much it reminded me of Kinmen. Someone shared this video there and ahhh! It’s insane to watch this and see that the connection I saw is actually real.
The Chinese diaspora carries the genetic memory of generational migration across lands and seas, all in search of a better life for themselves and their children.
Fukenese or Fukien are atrocious transliteration of Hokkian (less correctly, but most commonly, spelt Hokkien). From a Malacca Hokkian, now resident in Sydney, whose parents came from Beh Hang(Maxiang) in Tong'an (Tangwa(nasalised)).

They've always pined for home and were the biggest investors after the initial shock from Nixon's visit. It's not a stretch to say that their role in prc's economic development was crucial. Political development not so much, and now they're disappointed again
Those times that was China south provinces (that is why you hear malay words of Austronesian). not what the Government want anyone to know or remember that.
Vibrant democracy where maverick politicians can collect small donation from younger voters to buy 120mill apartment for his son. Or where the President could forge a thesis to get a PHD from a fake degree mill in UK. At least Najib obtained a real degree from a lousy university in UK.
Vibrant democracy? 😂 When Taiwan was still ruled by the KMT autocratic regime, we already had popular election. Plus Malaya was still under British colonial rule when their ancestors arrived, they did not “gave up” anything cuz they’ve been “living” there for centuries.
So many people from around the world are still looking to move to Malaysia even today. Look up videos of people from UK, Sweden, Canada, Australia, Japan etc2. Ask yourselves why. And despite its flaws, Malaysia is the most democratic country in Southeast Asia for years. So yeah, it is the most vibrant democracy in ASEAN according to multiple global democracy indices. And also one of the most peaceful countries in the world as well. Something that Taiwan nor China will never be because they’re busy cutting each other’s throats 😂

Kinmen people share more with Xiamen people that with Taiwanese 😂
There are many Kinmen settled in Brunei, too.
这个 kampong 前面靠海的地方有一个海珠屿大伯公庙。更久前大概18世纪就已经有客家人上岸了,三位客家领袖的坟墓还在那座庙旁边,是槟城的开拓先驱之一。比这些金门人来的更早。
Hence Taiwan and Penang look almost exactly and feel similar too today.
They feel similar because all their immigrants came from Fujian. Hence their traditions were carried over.
Awesome show

To my knowledge, many Fujian people returned to China in the 50s and settled down in Kinmen and Matsu 🙏🙏.

Their accent is kind of strange to a native Taiwanese. I am wondering if their accent is more similar to Fukenese?

Because they’re not Taiwanese 😂 their accents are closer to that of Xiamen / Amoy
杨忠礼是金门人,他捐给金门的钱是亿级
Kinmen is part of Fujian province according to the PRC and the ROC.
难怪啦。。。

A beautiful story and it is true. When will the Chinese people in Taiwan have the same feelings about their homeland and wish to return ?
