That’s a gigantic landfill. I hauled dirt cover to a few different landfills in a tandem axle dump truck more than thirty five years ago. Certainly brings back memories. Thanks for the ride along.

This was my first job as a truck driver in Chicago Illinois. I bought my first truck did the same thing it’s a decent job pays well. Never got used to the smell and there wasn’t a day you didn’t get nails in tires. We use to have 3-4 tippers and there would be 4-5 trucks lined up to get unloaded while at the bottom a long line would be waiting to get called up. I also did waking floor that’s the best if your doing landfill no waiting in and out and usually they give you a good spot to unload. Keep on trucking!
I’m in Chicago doing exactly this for 2 months now. Can’t believe I made it this long .Winnebago landfill. This job is TRASH. I would NEVER put a rookie driver on this job. These loads are heavy and the stuff you drive on is like a different planet. 😆planet the Play-Doh! I don’t know how people do this long term. I’ve been driving for 2 decades never seen anything like this. Be safe.
Use to haul construction debris to the landfill. I liked it when the scale master let me go to the incinerator because that was all concrete paved and the front-end loaders kept it clean. If you had to go dump your load out back (trash mountain) you're most likely to get tires cut.
Those must be moveable tippers which makes sense. But back in the 70's I remember a grain elevator not too far from where I grew up that had a permanent one where the truck and trailer would lift up, that was always fun to watch when we drove by. it sat abandoned for about 10yrs and now townhomes sit in that location.
In some of the bigger landfills in the Netherland pipes are barried in the trash to gather the methane gasses which are used as fuel for the greenhouse heaters. So having greenhouse next to the dump is convenient.
My first job after getting my CDL was moving trash and backing onto the tipper improved my backing skills. It got to the point me and my buddy would race in R2 to get on and unhooked.
used to go by one of these mountains near chicago ...they had methane vents that got burned all day. when i was a kid in Maine, people would go to the dump to salvage stuff and shoot rats. do not remember any use of dirt to bury it. who knows how many housing developments got built on top of them because the holes started out as gravel pits. maybe they heat their homes with methane by just drilling for it.

I wonder how much tonnage they take in aday that is one busy place and I've seen busy before. Here in Illinois it's now hauled by semi to St.Louis Missouri and put on a barge to go south on the Mississippi River.
When the paper mill was running in Old Town, Maine, they emptied trucks carrying wood chips the same way, except they tilted the trailer and tractor as a single unit.

Hi Shane have not hauled garbage but hauled wood chips on super B trailers. The truck and trailers both went up in the air at about an 80 degree tilt.
