The secret of the dungeon is to trust their directions and not even look in your mirrors. 100% focus on them and you'll be exactly where they want you with two inches to spare all round. The arguments and damage occurs when the drivers ignore the instructions. I did it many times and I found it a ball ache mainly because you ended up 4 to a cabin when it's that busy. Thanks for reminding me a part of driving I'd forgotten all about lol
Hi Sherrain, Thanks for this 'basement view' of the ferries. Makes me realise why, as a small van driver, I sometimes had to wait ages before little nuisances like me were let on board! Great video. So glad I found you!
Hi I love watching your videos I'm a retired truck driver now ...but I love your professionalism and you all ways seem to keep your cool ..like some drivers always seem to complain or moaning about the job ..I loved it yes you do get problems but so does a lot of jobs ...Well done you.keep making your videos👍
Great stuff Ms Ballard. That guy really knew his stuff😮 I didn't even know this happened on ferries, I thought it was all ramps. Well done for your patience and trust in him👍🏼
" Are you being served. " Loved that programme as well. I have watched lots of videos of long distance lorries, but never seen one with that content, it was really interesting. Enjoy your day, may it always be sunny and no traffic jams.🤣🤣x
Hello Sherralin , love Your videos with Your running commentary absolutely a joy to watch , the Man doing the parking in the Dungeon , must be the most patience person around , doing His job every day , the TV show was Are You Being Served .... I also watch another Trucker , this one is here in Australia , He drives a road train , with 3 trailers , His biggest problems are Wide Loads , up to 7mts wide , Stupid People towing caravans and the Wild life , Love Your work , stay safe , Cheers Dave ......
I watch some Australian ones too. I follow Australia Cattle Carters. I’d love to give some of those adventures a go. You have so much room out there compared to us. I also follow Sam, The Travelling Jackaroo, his adventures in his are epic and all for charity. Thanks for watching. 😁👍🏻
Only watch You and 2 other truck driver , Tony with His 3 freezer/chiller vans , and another driver towing 2 trailers , but still does the Traps to protect His load , which is a dying art , I have seen the Traveling Jackaroo driving His old Chamberlain Tractor , So You know Livestock Carriers have the right of way , even the Wide load trucks have to give way to them by the Law , Thanks for Your reply ....@@GBtrucklady
I was put into the Dungeon with my coach, other coaches, multiple motorbikes and several camper vans on a Pont Aven crossing from Portsmouth to Santander. The sea conditions were awful on the crossing, so bad that when we got to Santander, the bow doors would not open. Several camper vans disappeared in clouds of clutch smoke on the reverse out up the ramp, a couple of the bike had tank slaps on the wet deck turning round, and I was the last coach out, 4 hours after we arrived and then had to turn the ship around........
Reminds me of one car trip Cairnryan - Belfast with Stena in the 2010's. They stuck loads of cars in the cellar (me included), never been up/down so many ramps in my life outside of a multi story carpark.
Reminds me of the time I loaded onto a Ro-Ro ferry that had rammed the dock and the front door would not open. Trucks had to reverse off and other vehicles turn round. I was towing a trailer smaller than the truck and could not be seen in the mirrors. The crew were not used to this type of unloading and so not as skilled as your lot. Great vid presentation, keep it up thanks.
just stumbled on your vlogs. The guys and gals directing are superb. As you say you have to trust them and stay calm. Great job and very interesting. Wish i had done European work when i was driving in the 80s and 90s. Cheers Colin
I really enjoyed that video Sheralin as I have traveled that route many many time , due to me only driving rigid I never got put down the dungeon on that particular crossing how ever I always wanted to know how it worked , well now I know , have you a great safe weekend xxxxxxx
First time watching any of your videos and that was a brilliant first one! Whilst not a lorry driver, I can relate to that sense of not being in control on the lift. I live in the Tokyo area and I was driving my friend's car out of an underground carpark which had a lift just like this one. It didn't feel right at all! Very unnerving the first time. I thought the person guiding you was very clear and quite patient.
I used to use the ferries with a 6 wheeler and rear mounted Manitou forklift which always used to catch on the ramps going up or down usually resulting in wheelspin and no traction. The transporters were even worse, overhangs front, rear, and back end of the unit. Eleven car loads weren't exactly fun as they are high to start with and part of it is for turning gaps, trimming an extra inch or two out of the load and then waiting for the crunch when turning or going up/down a dip aged me ten years every time I did it.
Never done the dungeon and hate having to pull the mirrors in . Might as well put a blindfold on 🤣. Got to trust those guys guiding and TBF they do it all day everyday. Still it would make anxiety levels go up a bit. Thanks for the upload and take care.
Fair play to You Sherralin, You really need to be on top of Your game for that, imagine a drivers first ferry trip and having to handle that. How many lorries in the dungeon? The TV comedy was "Are You Being Served" I guess We're both showing our age....🤣🤣
Another great video. You did a great job parking up in the dungeon 😀. Yes the programme you mentioned was. Are you being served with John Innman saying I’m free 😃. The late Wendy Richards was also in programme . Roll on your next video 👍👍
Never saw this. Impressive mechanica and driving! So there is a lower deck without a ramp. It seems a time consuming process. Apparently that's ok. You'd think the quicker you load the better. How many ferries have this?
Hi again Sherralie...Bryan S here, (Torrevieja). I used to work on the Normandie, Portsmouth/Ouisterham, I never thought that I would see THAT place again!😂. Blimey! What is the SWL on the platform? Your manoeuvres? BRILLIANT! What a palavar!😊. I got lost after Caen heading for Spain😢 ANOTHER palavar! Thank you again...🅱️🙏.
First time I ever used a ferry in an artic I had to go on one of those lifts and I was absolutely terrified. The stevedores always assume you use the ferry week in week out
Ground floor... Lingerie 😂😂 Been down many a dungeon on a ferry. In fairness the crew are usually spot on with there directions. The Dublin / Liverpool p&o ramp from the top deck is good when you have to reverse down it with your mirrors folded in and the dude is spot on with his left and rights. 👌 Only the few trucks that are parked on the ramp have too reverse down it as the rest can turn on top deck. Great video in fairness.
when i used to go on bf they tried to get me down there but my cab n trailor was too long at 62ft so i never went in there as at the time i was using a kenworth W670 which have a long chassie then european trucks that was in 2001/2 it also heps if you got rear tyres that turn as well in tight places i had that built in when i got my own trailor
That’s where the new camera mirrors would be handy Ground floor perfumery, stationery and leather goods, wigs and haberdashery kitchenware and food...going up First floor telephones, gents ready-made suits, shirts, socks, ties, hats, underwear and shoes...going up Second floor carpets, travel goods and bedding, material, soft furnishings, restaurant and teas. Going down!
Don’t know why you think that? All drivers are allocated a berth in a shared cabin, with drivers of the same sex of any nationality. There are many women do this job now, we all regularly share. We might not speak the same language but respect is multilingual. 🙂
hi sherralin what a nightmare even the chuckle brothers would been stump with that 1 / 2 u / 2 me lol that must take up alot time loading lorries on and off why dont they not have 2 floors for entry and for off loading much easier till next 1 stay safe on road xx that would be are you being served 👍
Fascinating. Never heard of this 'compartment'. Is this the place where the send all the naughty hauliers behind on their payments? I do hope the Evian water & French bread wasn't too stale whilst incarcerated! Hah-hah!
I had to do that in whatever the equivalent was over 20 years ago. I was driven a hire 7.5 t and was absolutely bricking it. But I got a round of applause from the real truckers and felt 10ft tall in front of my 12 year old son. Didn't last. Ripped rhe side out of the truck going where I shouldn't have

Exactly this. Same goes for ferries in general imo
The engineering of that lift is amazing. All cantilevered out from the bulkhead on the right, as we saw it.
Never knew these existed and have used ferries for decades!
Thank you for sharing 👍🏻
Thanks for watching! 😁
Hi Sherrain, Thanks for this 'basement view' of the ferries. Makes me realise why, as a small van driver, I sometimes had to wait ages before little nuisances like me were let on board! Great video. So glad I found you!
Thanks for watching 😁👍🏻
Another great vid, love the way you share your experiences. Hopefully any new drivers entering the dungeon will have some idea what is happening now.
I've been down there in the 90s often, also the Normandy.

Another excellent video, good to see what goes on when on the ferries
Brilliant vid Sherrain! Wow that is tight on the ramp down ! Excellent blind side reversing .
Thank you 😁👍🏻

Amazing, I was in cold sweat just watching that, really interesting.

Yep me too! 🤦🏼♀️😂🤣😂
Really informative, thank you.
Thank you 😁
Brilliant video
Thank you 😁👍🏻
Interesting. Thank you.
Very interesting, with a lift operating on a cantelever arm for such a load.
A lot of trouble for about 16 lorriers.
Very good driving
Thank you 😁
Fair play to You Sherralin, You really need to be on top of Your game for that, imagine a drivers first ferry trip and having to handle that. How many lorries in the dungeon?
The TV comedy was "Are You Being Served" I guess We're both showing our age....🤣🤣
😂😂 I guess so. Lol.
From memory, I think it’s 9 or 10.
Done coming back from Le Mans well done Lass stay safe
Thank you.
What a job manoeuvring down there, you need a medal !
😂😂 it’s just patience and practice 😁👍🏻
my 3 yr old grandson was fascinated with the lift, and so i was i too :):)
Great! Thank you both for watching 😁👍🏻
Hi 👋🏻 Sherralin 😊 Great that you’re showing the nit so glamorous job of European trucking on and off ferries ⛴️👍🏻🤩 xx
Thank you. 😁👍🏻
It's lots of hard work for the ship personals also for you Ma'am.
Araz Ali
Yes I’m sure it is. 😀
Another great video. You did a great job parking up in the dungeon 😀. Yes the programme you mentioned was. Are you being served with John Innman saying I’m free 😃. The late Wendy Richards was also in programme . Roll on your next video 👍👍

good job Madame , bravo :)
Thank you. 😁

😂😂 These things are sent to try us 😂😁
'SWL'...Is: 'Safe working load'...Just in case people don't geddit...Ta Muchly...🅱️.
First time I ever used a ferry in an artic I had to go on one of those lifts and I was absolutely terrified. The stevedores always assume you use the ferry week in week out
😂🤣 For every up there is a down 😁
And it's bloody tight down there ....😮
I've been watching your videos for a while now. The guy giving directions on the lift has to know what he's doing
Yes he does and you have to trust him. 😁
Done that a few times when I was on international work, and you haven't got a lot of wiggle room 😂

Thanks for watching 😁👍🏻
Hi. I've been on that ferry lots of times. I'm pleased they don't ask coaches to go down. What a nightmare.
😂🤣😂 At least we bend in the middle 😂🤣😂👍🏻
You are welcome Ma'am
That’s a joy getting into the corner of the Normandy, have they still got the neon coloured carpet on that boat.
Can’t remember what colour it is, I’ll have a look next time. 😂😂
from what i remember about the dungeon manouvering was do what they tell you not what you think
Hi Sherrian back in 80s we used to go on lift to go up a deck on freight ferry out of pompey
Yes we used to on the freighters out of Poole too. The Purbeck & The Coutance.
Ah yes the purbeck....I ate on that boat and survived...what a barge that was!
That looked like a right lot of hard work, how do the lorries with cameras on stalks instead of mirrors get on, do those stalks fold in ??
I don’t know to be honest. They do stick out the same distance as normal mirrors so I guess you’d need to be very careful.
Im surprised they dont have oversized skates to help getting the lorries around in the dungeon.
when i used to go on bf they tried to get me down there but my cab n trailor was too long at 62ft so i never went in there as at the time i was using a kenworth W670 which have a long chassie then european trucks that was in 2001/2 it also heps if you got rear tyres that turn as well in tight places i had that built in when i got my own trailor
Thanks for sharing. 😁👍🏻
That’s where the new camera mirrors would be handy
Ground floor perfumery,
stationery and leather goods,
wigs and haberdashery
kitchenware and food...going up
First floor telephones,
gents ready-made suits,
shirts, socks, ties, hats,
underwear and shoes...going up
Second floor carpets,
travel goods and bedding,
material, soft furnishings,
restaurant and teas. Going down!
🤣🤣😂😂🤣
I wonder how fast this could be done with some 360 camera on thr top of the trailer at the back.
Ma'am can I ask you what is your favorite type of lories If you don't mind thank you.
Araz Ali
Been down there loads times at least she won’t have to share a cabin with 3 others
Don’t know why you think that? All drivers are allocated a berth in a shared cabin, with drivers of the same sex of any nationality. There are many women do this job now, we all regularly share. We might not speak the same language but respect is multilingual. 🙂
Hi sherralin not a very nice place to be stuck if the lift packs up safe trucking regards bob
You could do with a BT camera on the number plate!
hi sherralin what a nightmare even the chuckle brothers would been stump with that 1 / 2 u / 2 me lol that must take up alot time loading lorries on and off why dont they not have 2 floors for entry and for off loading much easier till next 1 stay safe on road xx that would be are you being served 👍
They have a main deck and another upper deck which lorries go on but when more space is needed the dungeon is used.
Fascinating. Never heard of this 'compartment'. Is this the place where the send all the naughty hauliers behind on their payments? I do hope the Evian water & French bread wasn't too stale whilst incarcerated! Hah-hah!
😂😂 No everyone gets a turn now and again. 😁
Wow
Well that looks a claustrophobic nightmare 😳
Get it wrong and it could be. 😁👍🏻
How big is the fleet of your company?
All that manovering has to be a nightmare for a new driver.
You have to trust the staff and follow their instructions. 😁👍🏻
This is why the s reverse is in the test.
That was quite an ordeal great vlog though
Thanks for watching 😁
Well that was a different view!
Thanks for watching 😁
What a prick of an idea! Glad I saw it but. Thank you.
😂🤣😂. Thanks for watching 😁
I had to do that in whatever the equivalent was over 20 years ago. I was driven a hire 7.5 t and was absolutely bricking it. But I got a round of applause from the real truckers and felt 10ft tall in front of my 12 year old son. Didn't last. Ripped rhe side out of the truck going where I shouldn't have
Remember it well...liked the steak and wine.
A very hard drive
👍👍
😁👍🏻
It look hard mate
Just needs patience 😁👍🏻
Do you or your company receive a discount on your ticket for delayed embarkation?
Not that I’m aware of. Nor do you get a discount for sharing a cabin with 3 random strangers.
On what ferry it was ? Thank you !
Brittany Ferries MV Normandy
Is there a discount for going in to the dungeon?
😂🤣😂🤣 No just free exercise walking up all the stairs. 😁
