    You've very much convinced me that I need to make my own custom version. Not because I want to sound particularly like Thom, just the taped off switch cover and simplified controls make this thing look badass.

    I love that guitar. Just looks so cool. The fat Strat head matches the body and pickguard perfectly. It's #1 on my "guitar I'm gonna buy if I ever have an extra $500 to blow" list. I'd put some coil split humbuckers in it, so it can go heavy and still do tele twang.

      Hey did you get round to doing this? If you haven't yet, just bear in mind (if you don't already know) that split coils are almost always thinner sounding than true single coils. Depends on the pickups and electrics though I'm sure :)

    love it! i was thinking of picking up a vintage modified version of these. already own a vm jag and mustang which i’ve modded to cobain and johnny marr specs. Also have an old j mascis jazzmaster which is great as it is. Love how squiers are great modding platforms that will make you feel like your heroes for a relatively small price. I grabbed my squiers more often than my american made guitars so i sold all of them!
    I’d also like to say that you’re a huge inspiration to me. You strike me as a law/economics type of person just like myself. Seeing someone who has such a developed second identity has partially motivated me for the past couple of years to keep practicing and making time for music besides work and studying.
    Keep up the good work and thanks for the content!

    I think it’s interesting that the Squier t dlx comes with 500k and 250k tone pots and the Vintera one comes with all 250k pots. I find the Vintera WR pickups to be a bit muddy and dark so I was thinking about trying this 500k master volume mod.

    hi joe . can u share the wiring diagram?😀

    • @JoeEdelmann3
      @JoeEdelmann3  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think I just looked up basic 2 pickup, 1 volume,1 tone diagrams and then removed the tone knob from the equation! But basically, both pickups go to the selector switch first, the output of the selector goes to the 1st volume pot lug, and the second volume pot lug goes to the “hot” output of the switch. The grounds of the pickups, the switch, the jack and the body cavity/bridge wires are all connected to the back of the volume pot.

  • @mushyw1234
    @mushyw1234 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Quick question Joe, is it a silly idea to put jonny's tele plus dually red lace pickups in the bridge of a squire tele deluxe like yours if you prefer the shape of the latter or are you only really going to get the jonny sound with the particular profile, geometry and tone pots of a normal tele? Just do not have the skills to reroute a standard tele body to fit a humbucker and thinking getting a tele deluxe to tinker instead might be a compromise

    • @JoeEdelmann3
      @JoeEdelmann3  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      For a solid body guitar, the body shape should have minimal if any impact on the sound… that Lace pickup is a huge portion of Jonny’s overall sound and so yeah getting a Tele Deluxe and popping it in that already larger body cavity should work fine (and since the stock pickup is a bigger wide range style you’ll have even more room than what you need). Potentiometer wise there’s some minor differences but even if you kept the Tele deluxes 2 vol, 2 tone layout it would be pretty close. I used a 250k volume pot in my Jonny Tele which is darker than most humbuckers expect (and the Lace Dually red is fairly dark/low mid) but it works well for the Blue single coil neck pickup.
      Hope this helps!
