  • Follow along as we return to the Alpine Loop region with Drake (the REDARC Power Your Wild Sweepstakes Winner) and Crew as we film and explore the endless spectacular trails. We will be doing a lot of the alpine passes we didn't get to the previous year. Using Silverton as a basecamp we hit multiple passes each day using our new HUCK Cycles Overland AT Electric Motorbike as a production bike, Gladiator, Subaru Crosstrek and Rav4. Braxton from Welcome To The Outdoors was our second shooter on this one and killed it! The San Juan Mountains never disappoint! For the second year in a row we had amazing weather.

    As an owner of a RAV4 and a Honda Ridgeline, it's reassuring to know that being Jeepless doesn't necessarily mean being hapless. Now I have placed these iconic routes on my bucket list. THANKS!

    I have to give kudos to the Crosstrek and Rav. I've run a lot of those trails in my XJ and Ram Rebel. The trails aren't necessarily technical, but I spent a lot of time in low range.

    Great job with this video. Your drone footage was awesome and has given me some ideas. You guys did a good job with the low clearance vehicles. I live in Montrose so these trails are in our backyard. We have gotten discovered and the trails are getting rougher with all the increased traffic. This summer we had to wait for a 18 jeeps to get by us before we could advance up Maggie Gulch. Thanks again for sharing your adventure and the great drone footage. A tip for Lake City is the ice cream shop and all the flavors they offer! 😀😀😀😀😀👍👍👍👍👍

    This just goes to show that you can get out and explore America in most any vehicle. Especially in something 4wd or AWD. The point is to get out there and explore and to enjoy our natural world around us. Sure a big jacked up truck can go off less beaten paths, but with basic recovery gear and some finesse behind the wheel you can probably get there in what you have. A lot of the OG back country explorers (post invention of automobiles) were in simple stock Jeeps and trucks and station wagons (estates for our UK folks).
    That said, I'd really like to see Toyota offer the Rav4 in a little beefier off road version, like a TRD Off Road or Pro with a rear locker.

    I've been making notes of which roads would be 'Subaru Outback Wilderness Edition' approved (that's the factory lifted version with the turbo engine and tweaked gearing/CVT) for when I retire in several years and actually buy one of those for my adventures. If that Crosstek can make it with the non-turbo engine and the lesser aggressive gearing, then the Outback Wilderness should have no issues at all. These are some beautiful places and I'd love to see them (and take my time, once I'm able to retire and be able to linger longer).

Have you added lockers front or rear? Right now I'm pretty stock with just BFG 33s (I do have the max tow package with the wider axles and limited slip) and I'm considering the Mopar 2" or AEV lift. Keep up the great work!

    • @OverlandPioneers
      @OverlandPioneers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The alpine loop area is the only no trailer marked area that we have come to. It becomes our base camp to come back to. Which after a long day of being thrown around is great. Especially since it’s just there and we don’t have to set it up every day. The reason the Alpine Loop area doesn’t like Traylor is going across his if they didn’t mark that they would most likely have campers being pulled across and getting stuck on the switchbacks like they do all the time.
      Typically we pull it most everywhere since we don’t stay long in each area. The KOAR videos are another basecamp and explore the area type event. Both styles ache their benefits

    Just got back from a week in Colorado Rockies. 1400 miles of amazing scenery through so many passes. Unfortunately I wasn’t going to risk damaging our rental Mercedes GL with anything beyond a basic dirt road. Will have to go back with something more capable. That being said, it’s great to see the Crosstrek and Rav making short work of these areas. Did you even need 4WD in the Wrangler? I’m wondering if a lifted Sprinter/Transit on decent tires would have kept up? Would it need 4WD? I don’t need a rock crawler, just something that can handle this loop. We need more friends like you guys. What a great trip!

    We elk hunted not far from there a couple years ago… the mice were unbelievable in September. They got in our vehicles, tent, one even in a sleeping bag. Did yall have any trouble or have you heard of others having such an issue?

    Great video! are most of these trials one directional? if so, how do we find out? I’m planning on bringing my tundra but would be a little big to pass other vehicles coming the other direction.

      There are a few one ways. Like Ophir. If you google the individual trails (Alpine Loop) they well tell ya.

      Hello! Yes! So we go between GAIA GPS and Google. With Gaia GPS we use the “satellite with labels” map overland. You can click on a established trail and it will give you info. Definitely spend the money on the premium subscription. Like 35 bucks a year.

    So you took Ophir pass from silverton to telluride. Then silverton to other spots. So how did you get back to silverton??

    • @OverlandPioneers
      @OverlandPioneers  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Most of the mountain passes loop back around to main roads. Telluride has a road going all the way around the mountains to Silverton. It just takes about an hour.

    Hi, I wanna do the Alpine Loop out of Lake City on my own starting with Cinnamon Pass and then the Engineer Pass. Will it be possible to do with a RAV4 Rentalcar and normal street tires? Saw some dificult parts on your vid in my opinion. I wanna do also do ophir eastbound. What do you think?

    • @OverlandPioneers
      @OverlandPioneers  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I wouldn’t do it in a rental car without full insurance because you’re definitely going to scrape. lol. we had to put some quarter panel black plastic back on after engineer. And you’ll be fine but again I’d be careful with the rental car. This RAV4 had a 2 inch lift.

    • @crizzlyhug

      @@OverlandPioneers Thanks for the advice. I thought something like this could be the problem. I will have full insurance but also will not damage the car to much. I think I do cinnamon and Engineer westbound as far as its good to go and then turn back if needed. And Ophir I still think I wanna try. 😀

      Not typically. We use Gaia GPS and the Satellite with Labels map overlay to find out camp spots. Most of them are on the Satellite picture image but no marked roads to them. That way we find some jewels!
