a little information for people who are watching this. On 20 June 2020, she wrote a mail regarding the concern about her weight loss. She wrote that her heart is not as strong as she thought (which means that she feels sad reading all those comments) and promise that she will work hard to increase her weight. She also said that she's actually eating well, but because people complained on why she only post food photos so she stopped uploading them. Now, around 2 days ago, she wrote a mail saying that she is working hard to eat 4 meals a day and that she has gain 0.4 kg. She also stated that she is working on gaining more muscles and weights. So i hope to anyone that read this, please don't complain about her weight anymore 😔. She is working very hard to gain more 💗

Coming from someone who has an eating disorder you should never listen to the person themselves. They are essentially addicted to being thin, addicts will always lie. If she was trying, trust me it would show quickly, but it has been a year and she is still painfully thin. Calling them out helps them, if you just pretend the problem doesn’t exist it will only get worse for them.

On a livestream recently Hitomi mentioned that she didn't feel that great physically and wanted to gain weight. It's also worth mentioning that during fiesta promotions she wasn't eating with the rest of the girls, and tended to sit around with heat packs and blankets afaik. In terms of Magazine interviews, in 2019 she said she really mostly eats vegetables and yogurt and she was jealous of Hyewon being able to eat a lot without gaining. The AKB48 members also said Hitomi diets the hardest, and other IZONE members mentioned the fact that they were concerned for her weight. . . so yeah she's not eating a ton and just exercising like some people keep trying to say.

Here in America, I see people criticizing celebrities if they don’t have that perfect hourglass and then they go get plastic surgery on their body (Brazilian butt lift, breast implants, tummy tuck, lip fillers, etc) to fit the beauty standard but then people just criticize them for getting plastic surgery. It’s a cruel cycle. Every A rank celebrity in America is sexualized. The most recent one is Billie Eliesh, quickly rose to fame when she turned 18 and showed her body. Westerners are no better, they are the same.

I'm Japanese and there actually never was that much hatred against Korea before in Japan (at least for most people) and K-Media was a big thing even before it was aknowledged by the world. Then in these few years the amount of boycotting against Japan grew so much in Korea especially in political ways. Then the "Takeshima Problem" happened and the Japanese started hate against Korea as if they are fighting back. Which probably is the reason why the Korean artists and shows have a hard time being Japanese-friendly eventhough there's much support from Japanese fans. Really sad as to see the two countries having a hard time as a Japanese K-POP fan :,(

    • @spaghetti23
      @spaghetti23 4 ปีที่แล้ว +102

@@helen241 Yeah, unfortunately I can't disagree to that either. I know it might sound like an excuse but those were the kind of things the old generation(like the people who's been through WW2) would do and the younger ones were definitely starting to change. Historical education becoming really fair and both sided was a big thing. Also, as I said, K-Media trending made Korea really familiar to us. The "Takeshima Problem" was a really big turning point to make the young ones start hating Korean culture.
The big concern I have about Hiichan's problem is that in Japan, we barely see any TV shows dissing Korea in any ways whatsoever. If by any chance there is, a lot of people would go against it. And that kind of spirit seems to be missing in Korea if you see this video...

I feel like people dont talk about how true what Jurina and Sakura were saying when everyone was talking shit about the Japanese trainees and how they straight up said it pissed them off when they talked down and made fun of all the japanese girls.
The show blatantly ignored and disregarded the japanese trainees by not having interpreters or anyone who could even speak the language and were basically like "Learn korean without a teacher or who cares" as if these girls had any way of understanding what was going on. And half the time it was worse because they didn't understand some teachers were calling them names and thats why a whole bunch of the trainees left early. Did anyone else notice how a bunch of the japanese trainees magically disappeared after the first evaluations? Because they were being bullied and degraded by everyone there and felt they needed to leave because it was embarrassing as fuck.
The whole show was a waste to even include the Japanese girls when they refused to even acknowledge or respect most of them.

    • @shysnow8
      @shysnow8 4 ปีที่แล้ว +280

Omg I couldn’t agree more! I watched the show and I just felt bad for the Japanese girls. Like first off Japanese idols are way different than Korean idols. Like they said on the show the Japanese just care about making fans happy and they are suppose to have fun in their performance but in Korea it’s about perfection. So I noticed after the auditions were over and they started training like a bunch of Japanese girls were gone. Plus it made me upset how much they were being degraded and how they were held to a standard the same way as a Korean trainee when they don’t understand that the Japanese were trained differently. It makes me so mad and I feel so bad for all of them!

    • @babygirlari1736

@@shysnow8 exactly there were what seemed like atleast 40 Japanese trainees and magically after they all got into rankings there were like 20 if that. And that already doesnt make sense with how the show is set up where all the trainees are chosen prior and scored so why did they bring all the Japanese trainees onto the show to laugh at them, tell them they are shit at performing and then all of them leave?
Not to mention when there were actually good Japanese contestants they acted as if they sucked? Jurina literally KILLED her part and had confidence and really performed beautifully but they made up things saying she was stiff and such when she literally did so well. And then tried to make it seem like Jurina and Sakura were super rivals and had Sakura win to make Jurina look like she sucked and act like oh wow these japanese girls cant do much can they? I love Sakura but Jurina literally did all the things they praised Sakura for but they wanted to belittle the girl who was highest ranked in the entirety of Japanese contestants and make it seem like Japanese people must be crazy for thinking any of them had talent?
Idk the whole thing was super fishy to me and felt like such a slap in the face and as I said Sakura and Jurina LITERALLY said it was pissing them off and were literally saying that it wasnt fair and they were being disrespectful and belittling those girls. Its was like Korea being a Dick to Japan through little girls because both countries have issues with eachother.

    • @shysnow8
      @shysnow8 4 ปีที่แล้ว +95

BabyGirlAri173 yes this is so true! Like a lot of those Japanese girls had talent and the ones they said sucked actually weren’t bad. Like on the first episode when I saw the ones who got F’s and D’s I thought their performances were cute and it was very Japanese style. Cause it’s not about being perfect it’s about having fun and being cute and playful. Like they weren’t terrible it’s just that the style is different. Plus Jurina is super talented and she was one of my favorites. I felt really bad for her cause it seemed like they just favored Sakura. I think she is wonderful but I think she was being favored way too much and idk why. Many of the other contestants were just as talented and pretty as Sakura.

Cakepoppi You made some good points. They did only bring in popular girls like Jurina and Sakura to seem legit but they brought in a lot of Japanese girls who already debuted but they weren’t huge names and were still inexperienced compared to Sakura or Jurina. Some have maybe been there just as long as them but are in the back usually. The Japanese and Koreans train very differently from one another. Some of the Japanese talked about how they have been in their group for 6 years or something like that and they were never in the center and were always in the back. A lot of those Japanese girls had experience and they came to Korea to get a chance to be bigger. Or they wanted to try something new. Idk the history for all of them but for sure all of them have debuted already and were in a J-Pop group.

tbh if I was her I would do my best to lose my cheeks also because you wanna try everything in your power that you are able to do to rise up in your career and to do that you need to capture the public and keep their attention as much as you can, main audience being the Korean audience with ever swaying preferences. its just one of the shit stuff about being an idol. you’re a slave to your audience and you have to keep appealing to them as much as possible or try to gain as much attention from them. once you lose your appeal to them you’re out. thus the consistent attempts to tailor yourself to their standards all the time no matter how extreme or unachievable it is. because that is what they demand from you and that’s what you have to comply to. Its damn sad but it is the harsh reality of “selling yourself” to the public for work.
welcome to the world of entertainment. same everywhere for all entertainers, be it idols, singers, performers or actors. You can say whatever you like about bringing revolution and change to the concepts and ways of the world but in the end if the public doesnt like it you cant do it. Or you could go ahead and fail in your career because it’s not popular and no one wants to support you buying your cds and stuff. I mean that’s where all your revenue comes from. so yeah. In the end no matter how much you hate doing what the public enjoys seeing you’ll still end up having to do it otherwise you’re not going to survive long in the industry before you crash. That’s just the bleak reality of it, be it for songs, movies or books. It is different for classical musicians but then and again the audience is different and the criticism is different too. especially for idols. Why do you think they exist in the first place? And especially why start from Korea? Its for people to put their ambitions of what they deem the ideal perfect person of onto and to be like “oh its achievable” or “oh this is what I aspire to become”. coming from a society so obsessed with perfection like Korea especially in your exterior and in your features, Im not surprised idols became popular in such a short time. But then the downfall of it is that people who only see this side of it fall into that trap. As people who are supposed to be the ideal image of what the public thinks they are supposed to be, every single little thing that they do comes under heavy scrutinisation by the public, and they are not allowed to live as normal people or as the people that they were as long as the camera is on them but they have to live how the public dictates their image to be which is how their company communicates to them to be. Not even their natural limitations are allowed to exist because they hAVe to be the ideal people. And thus plastic surgery to adjust their features to “perfect”, the number of people who couldnt take the pressure and committed suicide and the depression rates.
I dont know whether the jpop industry would have been better for Hitomi but what I do know is that in this industry she will never stop facing heavy criticism and hate because she wont ever be anywhere near what the Korean public dictates a conventional beauty to be. And not because it’s her fault but because of her genetics. Pop stars and idols in every country have pressure to adjust to a certain image but I feel that in Korea it is especially bad because of the obsession with perfection there. And the general public will never see you as human with emotions but just something to constantly push their aspirations on to and I feel like Japan might be a better option for her mentally and healthwise because genetics cant be overcome no matter how hard you work and eventually her hard work could wind up breaking her if she was using it as an excuse to run from the hate all the time.

    My opinion:
The overall concept of produce48 was flawed. The word "Idol" has different meanings in Japan and Korea. Japanese idols are mainly concerned with entertaining their fans, they don't have to be perfect like a Korean idol. Those girls were self taught and learnt from their seniors in the same industry, that's why Hitomi's cheeks were considered "cute". I'm afraid she's struggling to find a place in this cut-throat industry where perfection is all that matters.
Makes me glad IZ*ONE is a temporary group and she has no obligation to join the KPop industry as an idol. Only the disbandment would help her gain her confidence back. Glad these shows got discontinued.

I have no doubt that she goes back to Japan after this, that is if she realizes just how damaging the standards are for her. The people hating on her legit just don't like her because she is Japanese. I also thought the show seemed trash from the very beginning, it was the first time I was going to actually watch it because Japanese idol culture is very interesting but once I saw the teasers and the reactions to the Japanese idols it felt very off and embarrassing. I also thought it was weird considering the tense nature between Japan and Korea. It was clearly set up from the beginning and well we actually got proof of that.

Out of all the Japanese members, Hitomi is most likely to stay in the Korean industry. Mainly because Sakura & Nako are already well known in Japan, they’ll definitely be going back to HKT. But Hitomi is well loved in Korea, way more recognition than she was in AKB48, her presence in AKB DANCE TEAM was very limited. Yes, she lost a lot of weight & damaged her body throughout the process but she’s also at the popularity where she wants to be. Remember, she would never be this well known if she never joined IZ*ONE. It could be a blessing of disguise for her.

Lol cry all you want but Hitomi and the other JPN girls are having the best time of their idol careers.
Stop with the Korean idols try to be perfect and JPN idols try to entertain the fans BS. It's cringe.
Korean idols put more time and effort into practice because with more practice come comfortable performances. Just go watch TGC or IZ*ONE's concerts and you'll see theat they have a blast and are exeptional at entertaining the fans.
If you feel comfortable about performing because of the time you put in practice then you have the capacity to do things outside the box.
Your imagination that Hitomi's confidence isn't there is so selfish because you're obviously sour that she's thriving in Korea.

But it was Chaeyeon, who came to me and listened to my worries. Chaeyeon told me, I’m already working hard enough and reassured me to give me confidence. I’m glad to have members who really cared about me, it’s thanks to them, I made it this far. I never talked about this topic, but I lost too much weight that time. My fans gave me encouragement too, but it was thanks to our members who stood close by, especially Chaeyeon, that I managed to overcome everything. It’s nice having 12 members...”

miriamisofficial tbh if I was her I would do my best to lose my cheeks also because you wanna try everything in your power that you are able to do to rise up in your career and to do that you need to capture the public and keep their attention as much as you can, main audience being the Korean audience with ever swaying preferences. its just one of the shit stuff about being an idol. you’re a slave to your audience and you have to keep appealing to them as much as possible or try to gain as much attention from them. once you lose your appeal to them you’re out. thus the consistent attempts to tailor yourself to their standards all the time no matter how extreme or unachievable it is. because that is what they demand from you and that’s what you have to comply to.

Sorry this one took so long, it was very hard to dig up any interviews with Hitomi. She really doesn't get many chances to speak, part of that is because of the language barrier and even more she is very reserved and quiet on shows. I think a lot of the hate is not even coming from fans at this point but people finding her weight loss because it's a hot topic right now and just commenting crude things to get likes.
Hitomi and the other Japanese members have not had an easy time since the start. Overall I think Honda will benefit from her time in IZONE after their contracts end but she earned every ounce of fame. Japan and Korea were not very happy about this situation at the start and for a year they endured a lot of backlash. I think by mid 2019 Izone has reached a calmer mutual love from both countries but the quality dip in their Japanese MV's was screaming for hate and prejudice.
Since the Produce scandal the hate just flared right up again and I think all the girls have taken a stressful hit from it. Now with I-Fans jumping all over Hitomi, all the comments about her body are probably the last things she needs.
Izone seem to be just chilling at the moment during quarantine, *idk if their VLives were pre-recorded but Hitomi is acting more like her "previous self".*

What little popularity Hitomi had during P48 came from her ability to market herself as cute (hopes and dreams in her cheeks) and many people calling her the best japanese dancer( she taught her group "Very very very" if i remember correctly). I think she's trying to move away from being considered cute as well as dealing with koreas rigid beauty standard. Though many Wizone hate to think about it Izone does have a time where they will no longer perform together and i think the japanese members will try graduating from Akb48 (its kinda a slowly sinking ship imo). I think hitomi at least will want to debut in Korea.

You can't get popular if you're not seen but you don't get seen if you're not popular so you have to stand out. Especially since the camera rarely focuses on faces during performances. Their are kids wanting to drink alcohol and drugs at a young age pimp themselves should you let that pass?

cringe_aegyo tbh if I was her I would do my best to lose my cheeks also because you wanna try everything in your power that you are able to do to rise up in your career and to do that you need to capture the public and keep their attention as much as you can, main audience being the Korean audience with ever swaying preferences. its just one of the shit stuff about being an idol. you’re a slave to your audience and you have to keep appealing to them as much as possible or try to gain as much attention from them. once you lose your appeal to them you’re out. thus the consistent attempts to tailor yourself to their standards all the time no matter how extreme or unachievable it is. because that is what they demand from you and that’s what you have to comply to.

The fact that you can’t see the difference between the two comparisons is terrifying. One is healthy, one isn’t. We aren’t criticizing being skinny, we are worried for her health and want her to eat more not because of aesthetics, but because we don’t want her to collapse from malnutrition. Koreans, on the other hand, don’t care about health and just want their idols to starve to death to fit their beauty standards. Really, the two situations are so different. It’s not hypocritical at all.

Yea we are happy to see more body types in the Korean industry than just tall and super skinny and the pressures Koreans put on their idols to starve themselves down to fainting is a WILD concept in the western community bc we would never do that.We accept people and if she chose to become skinny then whatever her choice shes an adult but if she was forced to or is developing a disorder thats when someone needs to step in but ive noticed in the kpop community most people do not intevine till its too late and they are too far gone...

Some time ago on a japanese tv show (I'm sorry, I don't remember the name and when it was), Hitomi explained how she lost weight by dieting and exercising. They showed a picture of her from before and she shared how many kgs she lost. The host was impressed. Another AKB member recalled a story from when Hii was still in Korea: Hii sent them a picture of some sweet bread and she was wondering why is Hii eating it while on diet, then the next message from Hii was "I'm looking at the bread". The segment was generally praising Hii for losing weight. The pressure to get as skinny as possible does not apply to Korea only, AKB just never required their members (especially non senbatsu girls) to be this skinny.

They had a lot of months to prepare for their comeback, and Hitomi decided to exercise more. Some are jumping on the bandwagon that shes crashdieting, but being able to lose that amount of weight in that time is very possible if staying in shape is literally part of their job description.
What DOES matter is what people say, because these days its like its never enough for idols. Calling her too skinny is no better than calling her too fat. Let her do what she wants for as long as what shes doing is healthy and it makes her happy 😞

I personally think the times she was in front of everyone on camera she didnt eat cause she was full or was cutting out things that they were giving to the group to have a healthy diet, or she was feeling homesick. And when asked what she bought at the store it was a place she wouldn't buy the stuff in her diet. Her posting her workout routine is a great thing cause now we all know why she lost weight slowly and it was for her to get her mind off of the negative things that was happening. I also believe American fans should not be rude to idols to gain weight cause that pressuring them, as it is to lose weight as well so plz stop it (I'm american too but I dont voice my concern for it would sound rude to them so I just let them do what they do until it get bad then I voice my opinion but i really don't)
If anyone wants to say something to me about this go ahead but just know you're childish if you say that its okay to voice your concern rudely to idols or to people in general. Remeber you're a stranger to them even if you are a fan and they know it you're still a stranger to them. You wouldnt want a stranger to just randomly tell you on the street you are too skinny or too fat plz stop

I totally agree. If I feel that an idol should stop with the constant weight losing, I wouldn’t be like “you’re too thin! Eat more!” That doesn’t sound right as that was what I heard when I grew up and it just made me feel worse about myself. Though if an idol was gaining too much weight, I’m not going to sugar coat it. It seems like that’s what we American fans tend to do because we accept all body types but some of us be shaming one or the other. I heard somewhere that this overweight person said that there’s this thing called “skinny privilege” that we skinny people get to eat more and stuff and it would be okay. Which isn’t the case, if we’re skinny, people will say that we might have a eating disorder or that we’re dieting and that’s not okay for our bodies. With overweight people, people say that they might have an eating disorder or just eat too much. It’s always the same. I think if we have to say something, we must say it respectfully.

Thank you! There's so many international fans shaming idols who lose weight or look too skinny, some of them are naturally skinny, some of them lost weight healthily but because they weren't active for a while it looks fast, and some did lose weight fat, but either way it would not help to talk crap about how ''sickly'' they look on all their videos and use your concern as an excuse. So many fans use their concern as an excuse to shame them, even when they're telling idols who have visible ABS to gain weight because they look to skinny to them.

A better comparison would be that member of Super junior (I can't remember) his name. Even then it would be valid as he is obese or was as he has been losing weight. Not a double standard at all as she is clearly within her weight class for her build, Hitomi is not. The second picture though of people calling her trash were honestly disgusting and should have been reported.

@Rodri España None of the first comments were out of line. Firstly in Korean making sure people eat is a sign of respect, secondly these commenters making these concerns public actually lead to the company looking into it and making sure that she isn't actually starving herself or going through depression. Say what the fuck you want but it's not shaming nor is it wrong for fans to speak the truth, especially when it can lead to the idol getting help, which it actually has done before. Showing concern and shaming are two different things. The first comments shown were showing concern the second comments were shaming her.

But at the same time, they get hate for gaining weight from K-Netizens (thinking back to Suga from 2019 when he gained some weight and then lost it because of backlash).
That doesn't mean that there isn't i-Netizens that fat shame or K-Netizens that shinny shame, but i-Netizens are obsessed with "bigger is healthier" (not the case with idols such as Lisa, Sunmi and Rosé) and K-Netizens are convinced that "smaller is prettier" (not always true, such as Hani (from EXID) and Uee)
